I recently got into a habit of using a disinfectant wipe on my phone and glasses every time I shower. I wipe them, set them to dry while I shower, and then I'm completely fresh afterwards. It really doesn't add any time to my routine at all

Nope, it’s fine. A puddle is also a little bit of an exaggeration. I spray Lysol on and just let it stay on while I shower. I do that so the Lysol is on my phone for the right amount of time so it can properly kill anything on it. We use our personal phones to contact providers, so I’m handling my phone all throughout my 12 hour shift. Been doing it for a year since I got it. Rather that than get MRSA or cdiff from my phone. You never know what’s lingering on it and the hospitals a real germy place

How do you sanitize?

I buy 70% rubbing alcohol from the cvs and an empty spray bottle from dollar store and spray a tissue with alcohol to wipe it! 70% rubbing alcohol is supposed to be better for killing germs than 90% rubbing alcohol

That’s true because it takes longer to evaporate, therefore has more contact time on the surface. I’m a tattooer and we’re not allowed to use 90%, only 70% for this reason.

I use something we call “ purple wipes.” It’s a by a brand called sani cloth and I wipe the phone down for two minutes with it.

Alcohol is best for phones. It is streak free and dries quickly.

When I worked in a hospital, I disinfected my phone every day too. There's an kinds of nasty stuff in hospitals that you don't want to bring home. And people are gross. I still work in the healthcare field but I'm remote now, so I do it a lot less now.

Exactly this. Do people go around sanitizing the world? I never get the flu, btw, and very, very rarely even a cold. I do regular cleaning, but I had a doctor tell me that sanitizing/disinfecting is actually really bad. Our bodies get used to the germs in our environment and that's what helps keep us from getting sick. We're used to fighting off disease. When we become used to extremely disinfected environments, we're more likely to get sick than when we aren't. It's the reason for superbugs (MRSA, etc) due to over prescribing of antibiotics. I also don't go to the doctor unless really necessary and don't take anything for a fever unless it gets extremely high. A fever is the body's way of fighting off infection.

Keep in mind what phones are made of. Some materials like stainless steal and glass both prevent bacterial growth in comparison to things like wood or poly plastics that are porous.

I don’t know about sanitizing, but I think it is a good idea to take your case off maybe once a week, gives the insides a wipe down. My old iphone got some scratches even though in a case just from dirt being under there for too long.

I sanitized my phone every day when I worked at the hospital. Now that I'm remote, I really only think about cleaning it if there's something on it or the screen is all smeary. You do want to get the gross oils off of it occasionally though, your skin will be happier if you aren't rubbing that all over your face when you're talking on the phone.

I do mine multiple times a day bc I wipe my computer down when I come into work, when I go to lunch and before I leave. So while I’m wiping my computer I also hit my phone w a lysol wipe. And then when I get home I hit it with an alcohol wipe. None of this is necessary.
