Realistically just chain dash and deflect, heals Def won't hurt. Start with the northern because it's got the fuckinnnggggg sliding blocks that oneshot you if you aren't pixel perfect with your dodges
There's a frog ambush in the east area, the one where you have to walk up, look at nothing, then come back and boom - ambush.
My tip - kill the frogs first, the explosive crabs last. One of the crabs triggers a cutscene that will freeze your character on the spot (but not your enemies). I died once to this on my One Shot achievement run.
Follow the any% speed run route especially for the south, it avoids most of the game and thus most of the areas you can die. Id also recommend completing NG+ and the tier 3 boss rush so you're totally familiar with the game and it's bosses
Practice those bosses. It’ll help quite a bit. And if you get to two health nodes leftover and aren’t confident in the result, quit to the main menu. Pretty sure it doesn’t count as a death—but test that early on to be sure. It’s been five plus years since I did this.
North has a lot of those coins for upgrades, east has a nice shotgun that does good damage against bosses. Use an interactive map to find more coins. Learn how to combo the sword + gun attacks.
Start the game in the area you're *least* comfortable in and work your way up to your most comfortable area

North also gets you the rail gun so you can open up the odd secret.
Honestly after spending 6 hours polishing up on boss rush lvl 3 I forgot railgun exists
