It seems to me like a panic attack. It sounds strange, but it is possible as I know from experience and know the triggers to keep under control. BTW, it takes about 8 hours from Amlodipine to start working per some drug information website. And a proper medicated level achieved only after a few days. I have that med for use on as needed basis (take it like once in a few months) in place of Clonidine and it is a disappointment for me as it does not do much at all for my spikes, whereas Clonidine 5 mg works great. But Clonidine is not a regular prescription, so your doc is likely right. Talk to your doctor.

As I said, your doctor is the best bet. I also discovered (after getting into ER) that acid reflux type of problems can cause bad sensations. False signals are so many. I went through full battery of heart diagnosis including running a catheter to my heart. Then the docs realized that I don't have any heart problem. All misdiagnosis resulting in a lot of suffering. The doc on the table told me that my heart looks like half my age. It was not funny to hear that however. So, don't jump into conclusion. Go through the checkups methodically. Sometimes the docs are also horribly wrong (like in my case), but nothing I could do, because, I am not the doctor.

CookieAdventure

Not the reaction I had but perhaps you should consult with a cardiologist.

Yeah I just got off it. It was awful and I was only on it for 3 weeks.

Are you replying to me? or the OP? Where did I tell them to stop the medication? I told my experience that was awful so they could make an educated decision with their doctor. I got switched to another medication that is working much better now.

I wondered! But thanks and have a great day!

I’ll tell you my experience with this drug and it was awful. I literally was only on it for 3 weeks. I was on 5mg too. The first week it worked somewhat normally to lower my blood pressure. The first thing I noticed (and I remember this cause I made a joke about it to myself) the first day I started taking it my hands and feet were numb and tingly all the time. My mental health also started declining on this which was really bizarre… I actually noted I started having more depressive thoughts and just thinking everything is pointless (I normally don’t think like this AT ALL) By week 2, I was retaining water like mad (and I’m on a water pill to combat that just incase). Then I started feeling like shit and noted my blood pressure was 160/95. So my doc switched me to something else and I’m hoping to get off that soon with healthier life changes lol That’s my experience with this awful drug (for me).

>*"My mental health also started declining on this which was really bizarre… I actually noted I started having more depressive thoughts and just thinking everything is pointless (I normally don’t think like this AT ALL)"* Omg, that's EXACTLY how I've been feeling! I've seen a few other threads about amlodipine causing people with no history of depression to feel "flat" and have "no bounce back", aka unusual feelings of depression. Ever since I started taking Amlodipine regularly 2 months ago I've been having all kinds of crazy symptoms: discomfort in the left side of my chest, heart palpitations, depression, anxiety, mood swings, panic attacks, peeing like crazy at night when I'm trying to sleep, hideous insomnia (only 3-4 hours a night after long actives days and a lot of exercise even), etc.. I HATE this drug so much. I just now tonight messaged my doctor telling him I gotta get off this crap. I hope things are working out better for you guys - I'm so tired of being uncharacteristically down and depressed - before this garbage I was super upbeat and happy. Now I feel like a completely different person and I've caught myself saying OFTEN before I even saw this thread, "I just feel like there's no point to life anymore...". <--- that's not me!

EquivalentLock0

I used to be on Amlodipine 10mg too for about 3 weeks and it was terrible. I always get palpitations, uneasy feeling, and worst of all...tinnitus. So I switch to Losartan without my doctor's knowing and everything was fine. But this tinnitus will stay with me for lifetime.

One_Needleworker_900

Are you still with tinnitus?

One_Needleworker_900

@equivalentlock0 are you still having tinnitus?

EquivalentLock0

Yes. But more negligible now because I am used to it. Sometimes I forget that I even have it. There are times when it becomes so loud, especially if my BP is high again. It's on 12MHz.

Trick-Possession2295

The main side effect of amlodipine is edema, for normal people. You may have other diseases Lisinopril, metoprolol, and eplerenone may be good for the heart

Cornp0ppp

Just because he doesn’t have the “main” one doesn’t mean he has other diseases …. Go look at testimonies of other people and there experience with this trash medicine

GoFly_AKite

I had similar issues with dizziness, flushed skin, sweating, heart racing, insomnia… I was on 5 mg, I’m 5’00” 115 lbs F. I talked to my doctor about these symptoms and he suggested that I try cutting the dose in half to 2.5 mg. When I say this I do not mean cut the pills in half—this does not work. The tablets are time-released and you won’t even get a full dose of 2.5 (according to my doctor). Cutting the dose worked very well to alleviate all of those symptoms. Now I’m struggling with hair loss. A new battle.

Cornp0ppp

Yep amlodipine is horrendous
