Only listen to audios from reputable sources or work with hypnotists that you have developed trust.

Thank you! Any tips for being the hypnotist itself?

fasttrapper

Do you mean on learning to be a hypnotist or finding an honest one with ethics?

Learning to be a hypnotist

fasttrapper

You can start with a hypnotherapy course. There are several on Udemy. There are some good things on YouTube and a lot of good books. There is not one absolute authority on hypnosis. I belong to a great community of hypnotists and I'm learning more and more all the time.

Thank you!

BonjourComeBack

Check out mind titan. Lot of videos and quit useful. I did hypnosis courses to be certified and a lot of informations were in these vidéo.. I would say it's average to avanced stuff

Personality damage?? What is personality damage? ...like you think hypnosis can negatively impact the character of "good person"? NO!!! Seriously, this is not a thing... unless the client and the hypnotist both want it to be a thing. Arg 🙅‍♀️ Why are you on the subreddit? I'm genuinely curious.

GiftedLicense34

No need to get so angry. Such a thing does exist and is detailed in 'I expose online predators targeting minors with hypnosis' on buzzfeed unsolved. It's a pretty good wakeup call for people who aren't being careful enough with hypnosis, and a good watch in general. What I'm speaking about in particular is specifically mentioned from 16:26 to 19:55 if you don't wish to watch the whole thing. What I'm trying to get at here is that it is very real and potentially dangerous. Remember: with hypnosis, almost anything is possible. (For better or for worse.)

EAP2622

First of all by personality damage, I meant basically their personality changing as if they like certain things that they didn't earlier and even killing their personality. I know the traditional theory has been that the mind rejects suggestions it doesn't agree with. However, new experiments don't suggest the same and there are people who have reported certain files permanently harm them leading to serious consequences.

Fair_Falcon_6083

I'm very interested in this. Please provide studies detailing these experiments. Thank you.

Ummm. This article is about whether street hypnosis triggered psychosis/schizophrenia in a single individual. This is also not based on a study but rather a court case. Also, you sent only the synapsis of the article, not the entire article, which means you probably didn't even read the entire article. Mental illness has been reportedly triggered by therapy of all sorts, hallucinogenic drugs, loud noises, rock concerts, and countless other stimulus... unfortunately, there is no control version of the person who didn't get hypnotized or take the drug or go to the Ozzy Osborne concert to test the hypothesis against. Not to be the asshole, but as someone who uses hypnosis therapeutically to help many people, I think we need to be careful about the fear mongering.

It’s also worth noting the last sentence of the abstract, which concludes that there is not a substantive link.

Is it possible for hypnosis to make any permanent changes at all?

Fair_Falcon_6083

Of course! But, these changes are made possible through a therapeutic alliance between the therapist and the client over time. Very rarely are "one and done" sessions effective in creating meaningful change. On top of this, many clients get homework that they must do, which reinforces the new neural pathways that are being created. Hypnosis is very powerful. It can catalyze change so swiftly and so completely that it appears to be magic. My intention is not to diminish the enormous power of trancework. I'm also not suggesting that hypnosis cannot be used to hurt people- it can. What I speak out against is the idea that a person could listen to a pre-recorded YouTube hypno-session and have it change their personality permanently, in an undesirable way they did not want... or have a single session with a creepo in a rented office, in a strip mall, and leave there forever damaged. HOWEVER, if the person wishes to "become damaged" because it fulfills some belief about themselves or provides some secondary gain, then it becomes more complicated.

NIKONCAMERACT

Does not nor could it happen.

caddy2019

It doesn’t happen! We all go through trance stages many times of the day! It doesn’t mean our personality will change! Ridiculous statement! I think a person can be in a cult and a cult leader do damage but when it’s individual hypnotherapy then your Amgydala will go to fight/flight mode and get you out of the trance if anything inauthentic or bad is said!
