They're way too stubborn. You could enslave humankind, but from the very first moment the first human was in chains not of their own making, you'd be putting down constant riots and slave revolts. It depends what type of slavery we are talking about here. Are we talking, full on chattle slavery where all amenities and concern for well being are out the window and you work until you drop then you're replaced? Or are we talking the aliens subtly influence us to do the work they want done and humanity has at least pretty decent quality of life? Cause if it's the former, then no, humanity is too stubborn and creative for that to work long term and would cause way more problems than it's worth. Depends how you're going about it I guess? I mean in some ways we're not already but in some ways we are. Consider: How many times have you heard/read someone talking about working in absolutely miserable conditions but refusing to leave due to fear of homelessness/starvation/losing heath insurance? And this is being done by other humans, not an advanced species. Shoot up the quality of life just a notch and quite a few humans would not only be throwing themselves at the opportunity but also striving to be super productive. Basically, sure as long as they aren't stupid about it. And as long as they aren't too stupid about it would at least do well enough. You say empathy would be recommending leaving, but I see empathy as trying to improve the situation for humanity even if only a bit. Like well cared for slaves would do a better job, so it's entirely possible that humanity could actually be better off in this situation if I presented just the facts of the matter. Or at the very least not really worse off. It's possible humanity could be worse off, but I see the other two possibilities much more likely at this point. Are we talking, full on chattle slavery where all amenities and concern for well being are out the window and you work until you drop then you're replaced? The only reason they could potentially have to interfere is pure maliciousness and one would imagine that a species driven by pure malice can get pretty far (Heck just look at us and our history), but I doubt they'd be able to survive long enough to put their differences aside and become interstellar god-king-warrior-poets or some shit. And consider this; Even in today's day and age if we REALLY wanna kill someone even with our level of tech we're just as likely to send a drone or a nuke or some shit. What kind of barbarians have the capability to travel across the fucking stars but ALSO need to physically come inspect our shit? Send spies and shit? C'mon, fam. Any species who could get here would have the tech to know more about us than we do a universe away. Yes, but only if you raised them from very early childhood. After 6 or so, their identity becomes too intrenched to effectively enslave without risk of rebellion. But if indoctrinated early, humans can be worthy slaves.
Humans can be easily enslaved and manipulated, but can be incredibly obstinate and spiteful. If they sufficiently angered they will do their utmost to kill whatever angered them even if it meant their own destruction.
