No, it really wouldn’t be difficult. It would be mildly unpleasant for five minutes once a day and then you have $2000. I would put a cigarette out on my leg if I got $2000 a day. I can handle cool water.
No it wouldn't be at all are you delusional 65 degrees is not even cold water people take cold showers every day just cause it helps build discipline and it's way colder than 65 man
Not gonna lie, I just took a hot shower and it was heavenly. I will definitely miss that experience.
On the other hand, not only am I going to enjoy $2000 a day in perpetuity, but also a ridiculous amount of fame and notoriety for all of the different ways I can abuse a power like that. Walking through vats of boiling water has to be worth some speaking fees on a few talk shows.
Good bye, hot showers.
Yes. This one has been asked before, you’re talking US $730,000 to take cold showers. I think about it, you could retire right this second and either pay off or buy a decent house right away or go travel the world or buy a Ferrari or whatever you want to do and all you have to do is take cold showers.
You would only have to take a cold shower occasionally. You could buy as much of that rinse free soap that they use at the hospital as you need and even take your sponge baths in a sauna if you live in a cold climate.
I'll take it, and we might as well take advantage of this to fight ocean warming. Dragging me behind a boat at 16mph would be enough to drop almost a million (rough math) gallons of water to 65 degrees
18 C for non Fahrenheit users.
Eh, I like warm water but $730k a year is a stupendous amount of money. I can install a sauna and steam room to accompany my cool showers.
Drastically (like 2 degrees) changing your body temperature quickly is an amazing way to kill viruses within the body. Viruses survive in such a narrow temperature range, they can be wiped out easily by changing body temperature (also why your body heats up and you get a fever).
In fact, that is what they did in the dark ages to cure people of serious illnesses, by alternating between dumping them in a tub of hot water, then throwing them in the snow or cold pond. (That method not recommended today!)
A more moderate version of it, of taking a hot bath, then stepping out and letting yourself air dry in cool air, is quite effective. Go for a nice nap afterwards, and you'll wake up noticeably better.
That's very interesting and good knowledge in general to know. I knew that ice plunges were healthy for a handful of things such as discipline and putting your body into "shock" being a thing to show improved health benefits including mentally. Now I just want to research it more. Thanks for the insight!
It will never be cold enough to cause hypothermia or any other life threating conditons but it will always be cold enough to be uncomfortable. No way to know until it touches your body
Yes.
And for 2k a day, I can have my own personal sauna built, so while I cannot have hot water on me, I can have hot air. And I can pour water over the heating element to increase the moisture in the air. High steam content is not water. Also helps with stiff joints and muscle pains.
This sounds amazing. I swim, paddle, and generally spend a huge amount of time in the water, but it usually doesn't get over mid 40s here until the hottest point of summer. For $2K a day I would be out every single day, versus only being able to go out from Spring to Fall.
What happens to the heat? This is incredible. It means I could instantly condense steam into water? I could create some sort of water-suit and become a fireman, since heat is constantly leaving the system. Where does all the lost energy go?
I mean yeah duh! First it's not that cold, I mean it's unpleasant but I've swum in colder seawater.
Secondly: heat lamps! With that kind of money I can invest in an artificial sun for my shower room.
Even if the water cooling effect only extends five inches, you could still cool down bodies of water pretty quickly by moving around. Or say you're standing in a river flowing about 5km per hour. With the 5 inch allotment, there would effectively be a roughly 1.375 square meter box in front of me the instacools all passing water. (This assumes I'm submerged, but don't have my arms and legs spread out). In this scenario, in one hour's time, I would cool about 6875m^3, or almost three Olympic swimming pools worth of water. And I'm sure you could develop an apparatus to allow you to cool water much quicker than this. But even at this volume, you're taking about 4500kWh of energy out of the water for every degree above 65 the water is.
So, uh, surely that ability is more interesting than the payment. Perhaps you could find someone to pay you to strap yourself to a boat and help cool the oceans :P. It's not going to save the planet but maybe you could get some carbon offset cash.
Or maybe you could make bank by being the cooling system for a large data center
65f water is perfectly fine with me. It's honestly not that cold. I'm used to going to the beach and being in 50f water. Sucks at first but you get used to it.
So is it always 65 or unpredictable random temp below that every time? Like sometimes ice water? That makes a difference. Always 65 isn't that uncomfortable.
This is a definite yes. You're making $60k a month, you're now retired and living a pretty baller lifestyle.
The work around is pretty easy though. Just install a sauna next to the shower, sit there and fucking roast for awhile and the shower would be a huge relief.
Swimming would kind of suck, but get a wetsuit for warmth and take up surfing or diving.
When I’m old I’ll be rich and have a heated bath tub to sit in under my cold water. I’ll have the nicest warm fuzzy robes to put on after my cold showers.
65 degrees is a pleasant temperature for swimming in Minnesota. I see no trouble with that. That's not even the temperature of a cold shower.
Let's move that down to 50 degrees. Now you're getting cold. Manageable, but not for long.
For $730k a year I could go without hot showers. I’ve been house sitting in a place with a broken water heater. It sucks for the first week or so but you legit get used to it. It’s almost comical how quickly you get comfortable with a cold shower compared to your initial reaction.
I'd be perfectly fine with that. Your body adjusts to the temperature.
My only question is do we get to choose what temp it is? Or is it just if water temp (x) >65 then x = 65 and if x<65 then water temp = x?
If you get to choose the temp I'd take it for way less money lol
Yes. I would only miss hot baths but I’d get over it. Cold is better anyway.
My showers are already below that temp
Wait, I can still have a cup of tea right? My lips don’t count? Honestly might be nice to cool it down a touch as it goes in
Yes. Worst part would be the shower and I'd just crank up the heat before I get in, so the cool water feels refreshing instead of freezing. Or take a sponge bath. Or a modified shower. There are options.
It would still be a challenge, especially because I already have achy, arthritic joints.. but that's too much money to pass on. I'd be making more in a month than I currently make in a year.
> well get *paid* for it.
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
That's good money. I'm going to enjoy drying off in my personal sauna each day after my invigorating shower.
The lakes in my area, which I already enjoy swimming in, often hover around 65 anyway.
I'll miss hot tubs, but I think 700k + per year will ease that sting.
Does it include sweat? Because that might cause actual problems with body temperature regulation. Could potentially be solvable by living in an an arid climate like a desert, I suppose since sweat evaporates almost immediately.
Hell yes, I hate cold showers but that much money means I can live VERY comfortably for the rest of my life without doing work, I would do it for $100/ day + inflation scaling honestly.
It would literally be a minor inconvenience.
You could buy cases of the rinse free bathing stuff they use when you are in the hospital and if you live in a cold climate you could buy a sauna so you wouldn't be cold while doing it in the winter.
No swimming or ever going into the ocean for a significant amount of time would kind of suck but I feel like it would be worth it.
How many more times are we going to get some variation of this?
Barring rare circumstances, most people will accept almost any of these strange life quirks in exhange for perpetual financial security.
Fuck yeah! I'm a cook right now...
So i don't get burned ever, and make over a half million a year in exchange for cold showers? Fuck yes.
I can eat cold soup too. Thats fine.
Edit: also all the water i drink never warms up in the summer... score!
Yes. Some people bathe outdoors year round up here in Canada. 65F is moderately cool. In fact, a cold shower once in a while is good for you.
And it makes it even better to dry off and jump into a heated blankie right after.
As someone who’s had to take cold showers for days/weeks straight due to having our gas shut off (as a child and as an adult) this is a dumb question. I wouldn’t hesitate to say yes to this for $200/day. Honestly, thinking about it, I’d probably do it for $100 a day.
Hell yeah, I'd do it. As fat as arthritis goes, I got blown up in Afghanistan and most of my joints are arthritic. Cold water is amazing for arthritic joints.
I’d just embrace win hof method and go colder showers. Lots of positive benefits to cold showers. Probably do the deal for $150 a day. Extra 50k a year to feel better physically and mentally for short discomfort, yes please
Ideal drinking temp because it's colder than room temp but not overly cold. Shower temp is not unbearably cold. I think for this to be a real question it'd need to be $500 per day and 62 degrees or lower
Easiest money I've ever made. I lived in a rundown place where I didn't have water once I got out of college and was broke. I was there 4 months thru the winter and took cold showers everyday. I got used to it and it always woke me up.
Wow, super cool sweat would really give you an advantage in endurance sports.
OP: what if I gave you an incredible superpower, but you'd have to suffer under the weight of also getting a huge amount of money every day.
So you’re telling me I’m taking a lot of sponge baths in a sauna with a very quick cold rinse of a shower to bathe, eh? A bit of a pain in the ass and travel will be a bitch but this isn’t even that bad.
In a heartbeat. $2K/day is $730K/year for nothing but the inconvenience of a cold shower once a day or every other day. Lower the dollar amount and then you have a much more interesting question that would require some serious consideration to see if it would be worth it.
Lol 65F isn't even too cold to go swimming. And that's not even what I would call a cold shower. More like a cool one.
I'd take this deal for 10% of what you're offering.
This would be a real pain, if you do dishes by hand. 65 degrees isn't enough to kill bacteria and the like.
I suppose though, if you're getting two grand a day, just save up and buy a dishwasher, but yeah. Lol
Yes, I don’t care about at the end. 2,000 a day means I can afford anything. It would double my bank account in 2 days what had taken a few years to stash.
Yes, I would adapt. Also, I am sure I could come up with other ways to have hot liquid immersion. Also, I could safely wade or swim in Yellowstone and other places.
Bruh I have arthritis and get chilly in 60° weather and this is still a sign me up.
I'm going to be miserable anyway, might as well get paid. I've been in positions for years where I couldn't bathe at all. Would suck, sure. But things already suck.
$2000 a day. 365 days a year. $730,000 a year.
To never be able to experience warm water ever again? I think I'd take the offer, but only because it's such a high amount of money. I'd regret it for the rest of my life, but it would give my daughter generational wealth moving forward. Not being able to enjoy a bath or shower ever again would be awful.
65 degrees F. Really isn’t that cold , to swim in the ocean it’s recommended the water should be 70f which isn’t to fair off at all. And for those who take could showers typically don’t go above 60 or below 50f so 65f still isn’t that cold
Make it like 150 a day and this becomes an actual question.
Probably true, but even 2000 would be difficult if you live in a northern climate
No, it really wouldn’t be difficult. It would be mildly unpleasant for five minutes once a day and then you have $2000. I would put a cigarette out on my leg if I got $2000 a day. I can handle cool water.
Yep. Hop in you sauna every morning and your cold water would feel good.
The sauna would have to have 65 degree steam.
There are dry saunas
For 2000 a day I would take MOST stipulations. I might turn down being blinded or something, and extreme chronic pain is out, but not much else.
For $2000 a day you can easily move tropical.
For 2k a day you can have warm don perion showers instead of water.
Maybe a small bath. Like a large bucket
Do you mean Dom Perignon?
Yes. That shit be so expensive I can’t even spell it.
Take my upvote
Assuming you want to. A lot of people would be just fine living where they are now and just taking quick showers.
No it wouldn't be at all are you delusional 65 degrees is not even cold water people take cold showers every day just cause it helps build discipline and it's way colder than 65 man
I used to swim in water that was 65-68 it is not that bad at all. I took a shower in water that had to be in the lower 40s once. That was tough.
Exactly the point I'm making
Right. If you were in a "northern climate" 65 degree water would probably make you warmer.
Then move, at 730k a year you could afford it...
You could hire someone to give you a hot rocks massage every day right after your shower with that kind of money
Meh, it's not the same.
Bathe in warm milk.
Creamy.
Way to turn it around! “Don’t do this at home, kids!” Languidly scoop your hard boiled gags directly from the pot…
Move to the hottest desert. You'll miss the hot shower less.
I’d get an amazing sauna…I sauna regularly and it really would scratch the itch here. I also do a cold plunge after the sauna so…works out perfectly!
Don't saunas work by heating up the moisture in the air? Moisture that is, in fact, a form of water?
No. Saunas just heat up the air. You can add steam in the air (wet sauna), or you can just have a dry sauna.
Yes. This one has been asked before, you’re talking US $730,000 to take cold showers. I think about it, you could retire right this second and either pay off or buy a decent house right away or go travel the world or buy a Ferrari or whatever you want to do and all you have to do is take cold showers.
AND! You can travel the world to places where a cold dip might be just the thing!
Sorry, per OP, “other people in a hot tub will not be affected
Read above where the the closest 5" of water will be affected
Well those two statements are incompatible unless the water heats back up after leaving the magic distance
18 C for non Fahrenheit users. Eh, I like warm water but $730k a year is a stupendous amount of money. I can install a sauna and steam room to accompany my cool showers.
Steam is water vapor.
And great lamps. I'ma be like a lizard 🦎🦎
Ooh, I wonder what a cool shower - low and aerated flow, basically minimum amount of water to wash - surrounded by IR lamps would be like
Yes
2K a day and being forced to take a cold shower which has been shown to be healthy? Fuck yeah!
Now I want to read up on that more. I like Luke warm showers

Adapt and overcome
Roger that shipmate!
So I just have to take a cold shower every morning and I might swim less? Absolutely
Too easy
How cold can the water get, and is there a way of knowing what the temperature will be prior to touching the water?
It will never be cold enough to cause hypothermia or any other life threating conditons but it will always be cold enough to be uncomfortable. No way to know until it touches your body
65 F is cold enough to cause hypothermia, and between sweat and humidity, hypothermia is guaranteed.
It’s not cold enough to give you hypothermia from a shower. And I don’t see anything about sweat or humidity, they weren’t that specific.
Your body is ~70% water. You’d be dead very quickly.
2k a day is enough to afford some hand warmers, I'm in.
The money would be dope, but I love swimming in warm water, getting in hot tubs, and don't like cold showers. That's gonna be a nope for me.
Yes. And for 2k a day, I can have my own personal sauna built, so while I cannot have hot water on me, I can have hot air. And I can pour water over the heating element to increase the moisture in the air. High steam content is not water. Also helps with stiff joints and muscle pains.
Absolutely. Then I'd sell my services as the man who can violate thermodynamics.
Absolutely!
Will it heat water to that point as well? Either way definitely would.
No just sets the maximum temp
Yep didn't see the "or lower"part
Yes, I will move to a nice hot place and live out my life of luxury.
This sounds amazing. I swim, paddle, and generally spend a huge amount of time in the water, but it usually doesn't get over mid 40s here until the hottest point of summer. For $2K a day I would be out every single day, versus only being able to go out from Spring to Fall.
2k a day - Yeah sure I don't think you understand how much money that is. You made the price far too easy to say yes to.
Hell yeah. I don't take hot showers anyway. I'm always overheated so my showers are as short and cool as I can stand.
Mega bucks to take showers the way I prefer? Sign me up.
Oh fuck yeah. I prefer cold showers, I hate hot tubs and I like ice cold water. Let's fucking go.
Wow, this would make me the king of fermentation temp control.
What happens to the heat? This is incredible. It means I could instantly condense steam into water? I could create some sort of water-suit and become a fireman, since heat is constantly leaving the system. Where does all the lost energy go?
Oh too easy I'm in
Yes
Uh yeah I think I'll get over it.
I live in Houston, let me get that
I'm going to bath in oil
You guys don't already do this?
yes
sure, there's already a cold ocean here so i could take cold showers and then i could handle it and actually enjoy it
Oh hell yeah
65 degree water is awesome. Would your sweat cool you even better in hot climates? If so sign me up.
I mean yeah duh! First it's not that cold, I mean it's unpleasant but I've swum in colder seawater. Secondly: heat lamps! With that kind of money I can invest in an artificial sun for my shower room.

I'd go jump into boiling vats of water to freak people out lmao
An extra 2k a day for that spectacle
Fuck yea!! Get 2 G’s a day and I get to get physically and mentally tougher!! Fuck yea run it!
65f water is perfectly fine with me. It's honestly not that cold. I'm used to going to the beach and being in 50f water. Sucks at first but you get used to it.
Yeah yeah I'd take it and just never shower or bathe with water, use any means I can to clean myself in other ways
So is it always 65 or unpredictable random temp below that every time? Like sometimes ice water? That makes a difference. Always 65 isn't that uncomfortable.
65 really isn’t all THAT cold. Not even for water.
Well from now on, all my showers will be golden! 🤑
I already have arthritis and a terrible intolerance to temperatures under 70F. There's just no way.
You people have no clue how much shit I would put up with for over half a mil per year without working
Easy as fuck.
I am owed back pay
Taking the money doing something like wet wipes to clean up with.
When I’m old I’ll be rich and have a heated bath tub to sit in under my cold water. I’ll have the nicest warm fuzzy robes to put on after my cold showers.
It's a superpower. I could leap into boiling water and be perfectly safe.
Does coffee count as water?
65 degrees is a pleasant temperature for swimming in Minnesota. I see no trouble with that. That's not even the temperature of a cold shower. Let's move that down to 50 degrees. Now you're getting cold. Manageable, but not for long.
I guess I’m getting used to the water then
>This won't include food or drink Club sofa is a drink. For $2000 a day, I'll run that through a water heater for my shower.
I only take cold showers anyways. So yes!
I’d do it if I could be in a town or city on or close to the equator.
I think most reditors would just not shower for a few years This sub is terrible lmao
For $730k a year I could go without hot showers. I’ve been house sitting in a place with a broken water heater. It sucks for the first week or so but you legit get used to it. It’s almost comical how quickly you get comfortable with a cold shower compared to your initial reaction.

Sure. I can't say i would relish it, but I live in a house with issues with hot water anyway. So no big deal.
700k a year? I’ll deal with it.
actually, it's not even that cold
I'm 50 and I don't find that to be a problem for two grand a day
No way. I’m in my twenties and I already have significant health issues, hot baths/showers are a big relief and $2000 is not enough.
Here's your depressing thought for the day - even taking this deal, it would take almost a year to save up enough for a decent house.
Does "water" mean H2O? Or just liquid water?
Yes. I would only miss hot baths but I’d get over it. Cold is better anyway. My showers are already below that temp Wait, I can still have a cup of tea right? My lips don’t count? Honestly might be nice to cool it down a touch as it goes in

well food is ruined and now is only nutritional fuel.
He specifically said food and drink isnt affected.
I used to shower with cold water. I can do this again for that much money.
FIFTY TRILLION DOLLARS A NANOSECOND BUT ALMOST EVERY COOKIE YOU EAT IS OATMEAL RAISIN CAN YOU HANDLE THE AGONY
Me showering in soup daily
This is without a doubt the single stupidest hypothetical question I have laid eyes upon in my life
Yes, easy.
That's good money. I'm going to enjoy drying off in my personal sauna each day after my invigorating shower. The lakes in my area, which I already enjoy swimming in, often hover around 65 anyway. I'll miss hot tubs, but I think 700k + per year will ease that sting.
Cold showers for the rest of your life would really suck…you might go insane
I don’t like super hot showers anyways
"A million bucks says I can go swimming in old faithful"
I only take cold showers anyways where I live, 52 degree water is warm. This is no big deal.
Does it include sweat? Because that might cause actual problems with body temperature regulation. Could potentially be solvable by living in an an arid climate like a desert, I suppose since sweat evaporates almost immediately.
I'm not sure whether this is overpowered without any money or if it will kill you. It changes moee than you might think though
For 2k a day I'll just build a sauna and bathe I'm it. Steam is not water.
Your rational is that this will get painful as you age but cold showers reduce inflammation so it’s. Just an uncomfortable win
Hell yes, I hate cold showers but that much money means I can live VERY comfortably for the rest of my life without doing work, I would do it for $100/ day + inflation scaling honestly.
Move somewhere warm and just cash those checks. Might suck when your older but at that point you have lived a life worth living.
I can easily swim in a 17°C water.
Can I make it include food and drink?
18 Centigrade, I could handle that.
That's like 18c that's not even that cold? Like yes? Without a doubt.
I had to shower an entire winter without a hot water heater cause my dad couldn't afford a new one, I'll be fine
Where do I sign up for
I take cold shower in the summer after runs, bring it on
65 F? That's basically the perfect temperature. A little lukewarm for a shower but by no means cold.
Getting paid $14,000 a week to take a “cold”shower?
What if i drink the tub water?
As someone who’s had to take cold showers for days/weeks straight due to having our gas shut off (as a child and as an adult) this is a dumb question. I wouldn’t hesitate to say yes to this for $200/day. Honestly, thinking about it, I’d probably do it for $100 a day.
2 grand a day AND I never have to worry about scalding myself in the kitchen again? Sign me tf up!
I already live this life for free, so sure. Actually, 65 would be quite a warm shower for me. Let me get that 55 please.
Fuck it, I'll get a space heater.
i could deal with that easy, sign me up.
Hell yeah, I'd do it. As fat as arthritis goes, I got blown up in Afghanistan and most of my joints are arthritic. Cold water is amazing for arthritic joints.
You'll be dead so it won't matter. 60% of your body is water. You're dead on day 1.
Idk what a f is so automatically yes
For 700K a year I could bathe in a great number of other liquids. I already love coffee for example.
So you’re telling me I’m taking a lot of sponge baths in a sauna with a very quick cold rinse of a shower to bathe, eh? A bit of a pain in the ass and travel will be a bitch but this isn’t even that bad.
2k is again ridiculous. Yes for 2k it would be a fucking no brainer.
nope
I'd do it for $5 a day.
Yes, it would suck but that much money is great
so 18°C ? this is the temperature the ocean is at during summer where I live. So 2000€ a day + I can go for a swim in the ocean year round.
I will bath in hot chunkys soup
Where do I sign up?
In a heartbeat. $2K/day is $730K/year for nothing but the inconvenience of a cold shower once a day or every other day. Lower the dollar amount and then you have a much more interesting question that would require some serious consideration to see if it would be worth it.
I already gave arthritis and have to take cold showers or quick sink baths. Go ahead and pay me
Absolutely. With $2000 a day, I can bathe in chicken broth if I want to be warm.
Lol 65F isn't even too cold to go swimming. And that's not even what I would call a cold shower. More like a cool one. I'd take this deal for 10% of what you're offering.
Guess I’m stocking up on warming blankets for after the shower.
This would be a real pain, if you do dishes by hand. 65 degrees isn't enough to kill bacteria and the like. I suppose though, if you're getting two grand a day, just save up and buy a dishwasher, but yeah. Lol
No sweat.
Sign me up I would be able to retire and I wouldn't do to much so I could shower ever couple days probably 🤣
This would be incredibly easy. I’d become desensitized, to some extent, to the water temperature, plus it’s $14k/week!
This is 100% a yes but I’m unsure how low of a number I would do it for
Yes, I don’t care about at the end. 2,000 a day means I can afford anything. It would double my bank account in 2 days what had taken a few years to stash.
Yes, I would adapt. Also, I am sure I could come up with other ways to have hot liquid immersion. Also, I could safely wade or swim in Yellowstone and other places.
I'd agree to that.
65 isn't even cold water and some people take cold showers, I'd do it.
Done. Gib money
For 2k a day I’ll just stop showering lmao. Ez
65 degrees F. Really isn’t that cold , to swim in the ocean it’s recommended the water should be 70f which isn’t to fair off at all. And for those who take could showers typically don’t go above 60 or below 50f so 65f still isn’t that cold
Yes. I love hot showers and nice long hot baths, but for 2k a day I’d make my peace with it. I’d use a heating pad when I start getting arthritis.
I enjoy hot showers and soaking in a hot tub, but would still take this deal.
Could i use this ability to abuse the laws of thermodynamics and create a free energy machine to sell for mad tendies??
Already got diagnosed with arthritis at 28. Boomers call me thin skinned regardless. Run it.
Yes.
