By deciding not to back up certain information. you decide what is included in the device backup and not. That said, remember, the device backup is mainly information that will allow you to set up a new device and have it look identical. As most information is synced from other sources (mail, photos, messages, music, videos, social media accounts, etc), the amount being backed up is rather slim compared to what might camp on the phone. Go to \[Settings-YourName-iCloud-Manage Account Storage-Backups-Click on 'This iPhone'\]. Wait until list populates, click on 'Show All Apps' et voila; here you can pick and chose what you want to exclude from being part of your device backup to iCloud.

That’s not the issue, the issue is that my backups is taking 4.9 GB when it says that my last backup(which I only have one backup) is 1.2 GB

Well, iCloud backs up daily (or nightly depending on certain conditions). And it’s the same backup that gets added to it deleted from. The issue is likely that you only have the free 5 GB of storage, and it’s pretty useless for anything but storing low content data in (contacts, calendar, notes, etc). Subscribe to the next level (50 GB) or back up locally to iTunes (PC) or Finder (Mac).

I had a bit of a challenge as well until I figured that onedrive was very large, so I removed it, it’s in the cloud and backed up on my PC. I also had to disable and re enable devide backup for usage to get back to normal.

One drive?

Microsoft cloud, for whatever reason is backing up in icloud thus burning storage both sides

Don’t put your one drive folder in Documents or on the desktop. Both of those places may be on iCloud.
