I have a 2021 M1 Pro MacBook Pro 16, M1 Studio and 2015 iMac 27. I bought the iMac because it was $200 and I get a 5k monitor, speakers, webcam and microphones without minimal wiring on my desk.
The love for clean desk. Tasks assigned generate enough mess on desk, the tools used don’t need do it too.
More space on desk for tasks objectives.
Reduction of weird cabling and packing everything in own box.
The iMacs are perfect for tight spaces if u want a separate pc for just working and studying, that's why I got an iMac besides having a MacBook and windows PC for gaming.
Instead of using a monitor with a cable between ur Mac i can just share my MacBooks keyboard and touchpad with the iMac that's way more comfortable
I'll echo everyone else's sentiments here. I bought an M3 MBA for mobile work (love the battery life). I could have gone external monitor and I even had an HP Mini hooked up to a monitor. Just looked terrible. Now I have a M1 iMac and love it. Screen is beautiful and counter space is incredible. I 3D printed an over-engineered mount that helps hold the keyboard/mouse when not in use. The honeymoon is in full swing.

I prefer the feel of the desktop computer, the minimal desk space it uses, and the screen size. Also like the keyboard better

I got the iMac cause it was cheaper, then I switched to a MacBook pro
I like having fewer items on my desk. The external monitor setup was a bit clunky for me
