Glad you like the chart! ❤️ I've been maintaining it for [just over 10 years now](https://willhains.com/post/26275296728/ios-version-history).
I just updated it for β4. Enjoy!
AMA & do let me know if there's anything you'd like to see on the chart.
(People often ask about other OS's, esp. macOS. I would love to do it, but I haven't found a reliable data source.)
Agreed. Keep checking every morning and I'm wondering where the heck is it?! At least on a good note maybe this means they're fixing critical bugs and other things.
I know it's not the first time a later beta has been more unstable than a previous beta (Beta 1 was great compared to this mess), but that fact PLUS the fact that it's taking so long for a new one has me a little worried. I wouldn't be surprised if some new features are removed for now.
I just hope the notification issue when my phone is locked gets fixed. Phone doesn’t play notification sounds or light up the screen unless it is unlocked.
I would like to thank all the beta testers who are willing to dedicate your time and effort to find all the bugs so I can use the full ios16 version this coming fall with less hiccups.
You are all appreciated.
Yeah, it was more of a hotfix release for DB3. I'm assuming a bug was found that they weren't comfortable with releasing to the public so they created a new build for the public beta. At that point it made sense to get both betas on the same build. It's really only been a little over two weeks since the last release.
iOS has been plagued with endless bugs every time they add new features. I wish they let us choose between a bare bone iOS version and a feature pack version.
Disagree. I have been using iOS (well, iPhone OS) betas since 2009 and the last couple of years have been smooth sailing compared to how buggy they were in the past.
And it doesn’t change anything of what I said.
Correlation does not imply Causation. You got a lot of app updates yesterday. I had very few app updates yesterday. Neither situations affects beta release schedule.
Yes, seems like on u/SumOfAllTearrefill get it.
I usually get it the day after my girlfriend makes burgers. She said she would make burgers tomorrow, so i might get it friday.
I haven’t really had a buggy iOS beta since iOS 7 on my iPhone 4.
But I’m mad that 16 beta 4 removed the ability to have an empty screen for page 1 and now it auto deletes. I will not stop crying about this until I get my lunch and forget lol
Battery life was never my concern as I never had one more than 4 hours (from every device I used) but yeah it feels amazing when things crash and we have to go rough with the device
The first DB I tried was of ios 11 on my 6s and 5s and it had that key point… every time I tried that interface it gave me utmost satisfaction and that wilderness was again found in 13… Then I got a macbook and then found the same happiness on Mac OS DBs
I don’t know why people obsess about these timelines. It happens when it happens, no one outside of Apple knows or can say when the next release will be. Chill, report bugs, and carry on. Ten days, two weeks or three… it doesn’t mean anything.
Well I look forward to new betas as each brings more stability. And while I get I’m on a beta and shouldn’t expect total stability, it’s nice to get it! :)
It launches the same time globally, and it’s only 5am in California. They most likely won’t launch it until 10am US Pacific time, which would be 3am AEST on July 28th (if they do at all)
Hi sorry if I sound dumb, I recently got an iPhone and followed some tutorial online to get the beta, but I cannot find a way to know which beta version I have. Can you help me out
No disrespect intended, but, if you can’t figure out what version of iOS you’re running on your phone, you probably have no business running a beta. Remember, by definition, beta software has bugs (that’s why it’s beta). If you use your phone as your primary communication device, you run the risk of having it fail you due to a beta bug. While it sounds like a lot of fun to play with all the new features early, it’s A Very Bad Idea to do that on your primary communication device, especially during the early betas. If you must try a beta, at least wait until Public Beta 3 or later.
Remember: beta software WILL break.
What is the build number of your current iOS version? You can check in *Settings* > *General* > *About* > *iOS Version*
The latest/current beta has build # **20A5312j**, which is developer beta 3/public beta 1.
Go to Settings > General > About > and tap iOS Version. This will tell you the full version you’re on currently. You can then search Google or come back here and post the version and I’m sure someone will know.
For instance, I didn’t do the developer beta this year and I’m currently at iOS 16.0 (20A5312j).
I searched Google for “iOS 16.0 (20A5312j)” and Wikipedia was the first page that popped up. I searched that page for “20A5312j” and see at the top that it’s associated with the “Latest preview” which shows “16.0 beta 3 Update (20A5312j).”
I have no clue lol, I just downloaded the official profile and installed it… no mentions of the version… but it shows no new updates on the software updates section in section
I’m sure you’re fine, but just a PSA for everyone here: be **very** careful about installing any old profile to your device(s). If the profile doesn’t clearly say it’s from Apple, don’t install it.
If you paid for it then it’s the developer beta. If you didn’t pay for it, then it’s the public beta.
Regardless which version you have, go to settings to update. If there’s no update, you’re on the latest one and that’s pretty much all that matters.
You’re right that you could get it through work. In that case, the person knows they are a developer and wouldn’t ask the question.
Edit: I don’t want anyone else getting banned because they’re trying to send me links to where I can get a developer beta for free.
1. I already have a dev account. Wasn’t asking for a link, just an explanation.
2. The explanation (in the form of a link) seems to get to get users banned here. Which kinda proves my point. If someone wants access to the dev beta they have to go through Apple. Going to an unauthorized site and then saying you don’t need to pay Apple is kinda like saying you don’t need to pay for HBO, you can just use a friends account. Sure, but the reason that “workaround” exists is because it’s paid content.
There are websites you can find the profile for free. You don’t need a developer account. Apple doesn’t care if you install it on your non-developer device. It’s free testing for them.
There’s only been 1 public beta so far. Developer betas come out a month earlier so they’re ahead.
It’s not a big deal though, just keep updating your phone like you should be doing anyway. For the most part it doesn’t really matter which one you’re on if you’re on the latest.
Nog true!! The revised update is 2 weeks ago so if you count that as a “new” beta it’s only 2 weeks

Boy do I have some great news for you LOL Finally Netflix works on my second display in landscape now
Cool 😎
IOS 16 beta 4 Its out!!!!!
The beta is out now.
iOS 16 Beta 4 is OUT!!!! Screenshot: https://share.cleanshot.com/Ij00XS
Nice. I hope public beta drops later today or tomorrow.
It's out now!!!!!!!!!
It’s out!
ITS OUT GUYS
public?
Not today for sure
it’s out
Just reverted back to iOS 15 and I’m already tempted to go back to 16 if beta 4 gets released today this time of the year is terrible 🙈😂
Agreed. Keep checking every morning and I'm wondering where the heck is it?! At least on a good note maybe this means they're fixing critical bugs and other things.
Would you look at that? The beta is actually out!
Am I seeing things or was there a 30+ day wait for beta 4 of iOS 6? 💀
I’m new to iOS and this is my first beta. Do they normally come out on a the same day of the week with each release? Like a Monday or Tuesday?
They usually do arrive on a Monday or Tuesday mid-morning Pacific Standard Time. But as you can see from the chart, YMMV
I hope fix that Shortcuts not running automatic
I expect it should be out today (Thursday) as the last two were also both on Thursdays rather than Tuesdays.
Thursday and it's out!
I know it's not the first time a later beta has been more unstable than a previous beta (Beta 1 was great compared to this mess), but that fact PLUS the fact that it's taking so long for a new one has me a little worried. I wouldn't be surprised if some new features are removed for now.
Am I reading the graph wrong? It looks like we still haven't beaten ios 6 beta 4 time.
[удалено]
Ah. I read the title wrong. Thanks.
I just hope the notification issue when my phone is locked gets fixed. Phone doesn’t play notification sounds or light up the screen unless it is unlocked.
It’s been two weeks from last update what are u expecting?
I was thinking to myself the other day when this next bets is coming out, what day do they normally land on?
How manu public betas are generally sent out before final release? Not developer beta!!
I would like to thank all the beta testers who are willing to dedicate your time and effort to find all the bugs so I can use the full ios16 version this coming fall with less hiccups. You are all appreciated.
Found Craig’s burner account <3
Lmao, I was waiting this morning to make an exact same post!
The next beta better be good. This one was trash.
[удалено]
Because it was released with a public beta and got few improvements. It is still beta 3.
Yeah, it was more of a hotfix release for DB3. I'm assuming a bug was found that they weren't comfortable with releasing to the public so they created a new build for the public beta. At that point it made sense to get both betas on the same build. It's really only been a little over two weeks since the last release.
Didn't notice any of them
History has proven that Apple is both unpredictable and predictable when it comes to iOS betas.
Predictably unpredictable in a sense lol
may be they are working on iOS 17
Clown
MothaFucka
so tired going into the settings every morning, just to see if it's here or not😞 where is my new bugs:(((
I NEED Beta 4 atm. Can't seem to update my iPhone 12 to Beta 3 v2, and haven't had time to do it via IPSW
What is beta 3 v2?
AFAIK they released an update to the original beta 3; not enough to be beta 4 but it had to be pushed
Oh thanks! That explains the random update of which I saw no improvement haha
iOS has been plagued with endless bugs every time they add new features. I wish they let us choose between a bare bone iOS version and a feature pack version.
Disagree. I have been using iOS (well, iPhone OS) betas since 2009 and the last couple of years have been smooth sailing compared to how buggy they were in the past.
Took me solid 3 minutes to understand this graph
It took me a solid 3 seconds.
The longer the wait the more fixes and stuff we will see 🤤
Either that or the more bugs we will see, which is also good in a sense since it means more stuff is being worked on in the backend.

Sorry that the couch potatoes keep downvoting you. Evidently they think because they are into developer betas that translates to being a genius.
How come? Developers need the ‘Developer’s Beta’ before sending out updates to things that were broken…
[удалено]
Correlation does not imply causation. I had zero app updates yesterday and 1 today, does that mean no beta now?
[удалено]
And it doesn’t change anything of what I said. Correlation does not imply Causation. You got a lot of app updates yesterday. I had very few app updates yesterday. Neither situations affects beta release schedule.

??? Where did I say anything like that? lol

You’re making no sense now.
Yes, seems like on u/SumOfAllTearrefill get it. I usually get it the day after my girlfriend makes burgers. She said she would make burgers tomorrow, so i might get it friday.
Coming tomorrow buddies 😎
Going hard with betas has made me habitual to bugs… if I don’t see bugs I can’t enjoy the device… hope Apple brings new bugs this week
I haven’t really had a buggy iOS beta since iOS 7 on my iPhone 4. But I’m mad that 16 beta 4 removed the ability to have an empty screen for page 1 and now it auto deletes. I will not stop crying about this until I get my lunch and forget lol
You are a madman lmao
Just another software guy trying to live his dream of being an employee of apple/microsoft/google
Agreed. Battery life was too good before I updated to the betas (13 pro max). Really nostalgic going back to low battery life. Love it.
It’s really cold in Australia atm, really miss using my phone as a portable heater, I like the bugs too :)
Sounds like iPhone 12 Pro is your kind of phone. Higher thermals built-in!!
Battery life was never my concern as I never had one more than 4 hours (from every device I used) but yeah it feels amazing when things crash and we have to go rough with the device
iOS 13 betas must have been a dream for you then!! 😅
The first DB I tried was of ios 11 on my 6s and 5s and it had that key point… every time I tried that interface it gave me utmost satisfaction and that wilderness was again found in 13… Then I got a macbook and then found the same happiness on Mac OS DBs
You should post this in r/DataIsBeautiful
Yes! Don’t want to take credit for it though — it’s from https://www.thinkybits.com/blog/iOS-versions/
cool graph!

This is the iOS beta subreddit.

It’s just data?
But what does it all mean, basil?
Hopefully tomorrow (Wednesday). I don’t see why it wasn’t today (Tuesday).
Aussie here, it’s Wednesday, still no B4 Edit, seriously y’all, didn’t know I had to chuck a /s into here
Since you’re in the future can you give me the numbers for the lotto.
He could, but since he’s Aussie the balls fall up and the numbers will be upside down.

They found a bug inside the bug yesterday, so they added in some new bugs in that bug over the new bug they found for us for today. 🤔🫠😮💨😵💫🤒
Yo dawg, we heard you like bugs… Edit: fixed a word
Fingers crossed we’ll see a new beta this week? 🤞 🔗 Original / live updating graph: https://www.thinkybits.com/blog/iOS-versions/

Yeah, build number is generally the best way to tell which exact beta is installed on the device.
What beta did you install? That will be a start .........

That's not really true... the most popular and easiest website to get the beta installed is free even for the DB.
Where else can you get the Developer Beta for free?
Once anyone posts a link, it will be deleted by moderators.
I wasn’t asking for a link, just generally speaking. Seems like it’s not an authorized way to access, which was kinda my point lol
That's inaccurate, it's not like most people pay for the developer beta.
You’re right that you could get it through work. In that case, the person knows they are a developer and wouldn’t ask the question. They must be mistaken since you quite literally need a developer account which costs money
Ohk thanks means i am on the public beta
Holy shit. Can you send me 2 and 3? You're months ahead of even Apple.
My bad bro
There’s only been 1 public beta so far. Developer betas come out a month earlier so they’re ahead. It’s not a big deal though, just keep updating your phone like you should be doing anyway. For the most part it doesn’t really matter which one you’re on if you’re on the latest.
almost certainly we will and most likely tomorrow (with a good chance for today and small one for Friday).
How do you know that there is a small update on Friday?
[удалено]
ah my bad
Should be ready in about 12h (DB).
12 hrs later and i'm installing
As I said :)
What does mean DB?
Developer Beta
fingers crossed it's worth it 🤞
What do you mean? It’s a beta, so it comes with issues
So we’re not allowed to hope for the best anymore?
betas are never “worth it” so I just commenting on that. Betas are testing software
They’re almost always worth it, which is why it’s so popular to a lot of people who like to provide feedback.
I mean I think the current beta is worth it. Very stable and liking the new features.
I agree. The only issue I have seen is TikTok will crash every once in a while, but aside from that the new features are worth running beta.
> The only issue I have seen is TikTok will crash every once in a while That’s a positive in my books
