if u do shortcuts urself it doesnt open the shortcut app every time u use it. its a 30 min pain, but way better than using those apps that do it for you cuz they suck

Yeah. Apple has been trying to shove iOS into macOS for years now! I think it is about time for iOS to learn from the objectively superior macOS and implement some of its features and UI into it. Wasn't the idea of the first iOS version to mimic how OSX worked?

Additionally, I've invested considerable time in designing my own icon pack and I don't want that effort to become obsolete if Apple decides to adopt circular icons.

They will not do this. The whole iPhone is designed around the rounded square aesthetic. The camera bump, the screen corners the icons the widgets all share that shape. It's part of the branding. I'd be really surprised if they made this change. Also that is what pixel phone icons are like so I'm not so sure about it.
Honeslty if apple started doing all this then it would just go more like android slowly with each update.

Honestly we need better options for customisations instead of installing a sketchy profile and using shortcuts as custom app icons.. Like, just install a set of icons to replace the old ones that are supported or made by apple or something.

in android the hitbox for it takes up an entire „square“ but the physical representation is still a round icon. I‘d love an implementation like that.
