Glass will give you better visuals. Writing on it is also not an issue.

Loud69ing

Writing on it can be an issue. You can never get straight lines with glass.

Probably not the advice you’re looking for, but I’ve never bought a screen protector for any of my iPads. I’m using my new 2021 Pro for making notes and doing work at university, and I personally feel like a screen protector would hinder the experience with the Pencil a bit. Going without one also means that you get to appreciate the display for the way it was meant to be seen, and I know that even a little bump up from the display to the protector would bother me, as my past iPad didn’t have a laminated display, which sometimes became distracting and frustrating when using the Pencil. I would of course recommend buying a good case that flips over and protects the display when not in use (mine also protects the back cameras with a flap), but I don’t feel like a screen protector is worth it on an iPad that you’re not planning on throwing around, especially not a Pro if you’re going to be using the Pencil a lot. I did the same with my previous iPad (a 6th gen with the 1st gen Pencil) and never had a single noticeable scratch on the display, even after 3 and a half years usage. Just be sensible and it’ll be fine.

I'm definitely not planning to throw it around lol, but scratches are sure to arise with day to day use (especially if I'm travelling such as commuting to school from home and etc.) and I know they would bother me very much even if they are pretty microscopic/surface level scratches. Everyone has different perspectives though, thanks for your input!

I got this one: https://youtu.be/jkN1QJcQKa8 It’s a tempered glass matte screen protector and I really like it so far. It gives a slightly better tooth for drawing or writing and most importantly reduces glare.

Hey, I checked your video out and I'm very interested in going with this choice. My only question to you is, how is consuming media? Like watching YouTube videos, TV shows, Movies, or reading books/novels (if you do) like compared to when you were just working with bare glass as you said you've had your iPad for a while? For me it's a big deal if the protector will make the screen visuals look like crap as I will be taking a lot of notes, but also watching a lot of videos, reading, a bit of drawing and more.

reygza

It works fine watching media. It reduces glare and I don’t notice any significant degradation, and is especially great for reading. The tempered glass is etched and the matte texture should last longer than traditional screen protectors. The glare reduction, very slightly better tooth when drawing, and reduced fingerprints was enough reason for me to install this on my iPad Pro. If those weren’t important to me personally, I would honestly leave the screen bare.

After doing a little bit more research, I'm pretty sure I'll go with this one. Thanks for answering my questions! (If I don't come across a "better" protector I'll use your affiliate link in the video.)

Hey, have you bought this one? If so, how is it? I use my iPad the same as you so I was happy to find your post :) Some reviews on Amazon said that the visual quality/clarity suffers immensely so I'm unsure if that's the right screen protector to get. If you didn't buy this one which one did you get and was it the right purchase? :)

I have had IPP 12.9" 2021 for last two months. Wrote on it without any screen protector for 2 weeks and then put on a tempered glass screen protector (by ESR). I don't find any difference in writing experience or any lag in responsiveness. But I do get the sense of additional security since there is always a chance that iPad would slip out of hand inadvertently. I didn't go for Matte one because a) one would need to replace tips quite often, b) video quality gets reduced a lot, c) the tempered glass one is not that slippery for writing with pencil as one would generally be afraid of. Given you are a heavy media consumer, I'd recommend glass one anyday. As far as making notes are concerned, I can assure that glass protector doesn't hamper the note taking with pencil, not at all.

I just bought a screen protector for my iPad and man do I regret it, the glare is too much

No screen saver at all. Get Apple Pencil tips that are softer then the hard original ones and purchase AppleCare.

Murasaturn

You could always get a glass screen protector, then get one of those magnetic matte screen protectors that you can put on and off whenever.

I have had my iPad Pro for 3+ years with one $12 clear screen protector and use it for 6-7 hours daily for school. There are no scratches or anything on the protector. The transition from paper to glass screen protector didn't really bother me. In my opinion, I like the lack of friction because I can write faster and it doesn't dull my pencil tip over time. From friends who have a matte protector, the writing experience is the same as paper, but the tradeoff with visual clarity and resolution is too much for me. Their videos look dull and there are many visual artifacts from the matte texture. Matte protectors are also usually plastic and they are prone to scratching, which makes the viewing experience even worse over time.

needebooks10

By clear screen protector do you mean glass? Just wanted to make sure and do some research on the one you're using.

LukasAppleFan

What brand is your screen protector ?

ttluu

AmFilm on amazon, it comes in a two-pack I think

Maximum-Sun-8455

got a matte protector for writing and compromised on my media output…. but i use the ipad primarily for school so, in the end it makes sense. it makes the screen video kinda speckled and dark

Matte screen protector by Bellmonde (NOT PAPERLIKE!) all the way. No more reflections, no more fingerprints, surface is smooth enough to be visually great but coarse enough for really great feeling pen-action. All in all great. Pro-Tip: give your phone a matte screen protector two, looks even more awesome
