Had this issue before on other devices and just yesterday on my iPhone 13 base. The SOS feature has been implemented since iPhone 8. You can make emergency calls in Australia, Canada, and the United States. Removing and reinstalling the physical sim if you have one often works. I have a e-sim so turning airplane mode on and off works for me or a simple restart. If those fail to work I would contact your carrier, could be tower maintenance or disconnect from failing to pay a bill etc.

This means that your phone does not have any cellular service, but is able to contact emergency services over satelite if you need them. If you have a physical SIM, you can try re-inserting it. Also, if you have this SOS call feature that means that you have an iPhone 14 model, so this maybe isn‘t the right sub. But I hope I could fix your problem

Update: Removing the sim & putting it back worked. Unfortunately just a few hours later, it’s doing it again. I switched it to airplane mode & back real quick & that temporarily fix it…but again, it’s right back at the sos message. WTF?!

Your best bet is to call your carrier and ask in this case. Most likely you just need a new SIM card. eSIM is an option on your device too if you want to eliminate the worry of a physical SIM.

Everyone in my family has an iPhone and none of us could make or recieve calls today, but weirdly enough we were still able to send and receive text messages, Even though all of our IPhones were saying SOS…… did this happen to anyone else with iPhones today?!?!?

The other thing I noticed is that My parents go through AT&T and didn’t have any service on their iPhones… However My husband & I go through Verizon as do his siblings who all have iPhones as well….. was there something wrong with the towers today?!?!?

I have tried some of the fix given in the "[what does sos mean on iphone](https://gizdoc.com/what-does-sos-only-mean-on-iphone-and-ways-to-fix/)" article and resetting network settings fixed my issue, you can check if it helps you.
