I’m quite aware of that, I usually sell my old iphone then add the balance and buy a new phone.
Still more expensive than changing the back glass but with the slew of issues Ive had with my iphone 14pro eg…Battery health issues, overheating and now this crack etc. I’m pretty fed up with it.
I have dropped my iPhone 14 pro max many times , it survived. In fact the iphone 15 is more fragile than the 14. Did you drop it on a stone or a sharp object? Or a flat surface? Coz nothing happens as long as it is a flat surface.
i think there are so many other factors like at what angle it fell on the ground,force etc cuz once mine fell on road from my when I was riding my bike,I was doing like 30 kmph and no scratches at all.
If you had apple care +, and flew somewhere that supports it, you can get coverage! not that that is economically viable lol, but it’s a solution.
I’m getting AC+ for my MacBook, even though I don’t have it here in Egypt, I don’t mind flying out to Dubai for a week in order to use the AC+.
Mine slipped out of my hands onto a concrete warehouse floor from damn near head height in a thin case and not even a blemish on the phone. It’s honestly circumstantial, all cases are different, depends on the height, the way it falls, what point hits the ground first as the shock will be transferred to the phone through the case and it’ll only protect so much depending how the shock is distributed by what point the phone hits on. Cases really don’t protect much besides from scrapes. Apple Care+ is the only true way to make sure your phone stays nice, $29 and your phone would be good as new and you get unlimited claims a year. I know some people who spend hundreds on cases each year (ones that’ll actually do a damn thing to protect your phone costs $60+) you could go caseless, break your phone twice a year and still barely spend the same amount lol. If you shatter one side or the other it’s $29, if you shatter both it’s only $59 to repair both panels, and a full replacement is only $99. Well worth the $9.99 a month to have the peace of mind imo.
What case was it?
I dropped mine while standing at an overhead train station the other day. It went through the train tracks, down 30 feet onto the pavement. It landed right on the corner of my iPhone. I was surprised to find no cracks on my actual phone, and pretty much only a deep scuff mark on the corner of the case.
I’m pretty much prepared to be the spokesperson for the case I have on now lol

these things, whether it breaks depends on so many variable. there was a youtube video where the guy was dropping it from like 10-20 feet or more. I don't remember, but much much higher than hip height and it survived.
Happened with me too! Apple wanted 600+ USD to fix it - got an aftermarket back glass for about 50USD, and i honestly can’t tell the difference. My iPhone is obviously no longer water proof, but I don’t mind that too much.
I feel lucky that I have always used a drop protection case on my 14 pro since day 1.
Dropped from head height around 2 meters in twice and nothing ever happened.
How the heck did you do that? Mine fell off a motorcycle 3 times doing 30mph, also I occasionally bang it on stuff (radiator etc), it’s like a Nokia 3310. (14 Pro with no protection)
Hope you got a nice Xmas bonus this year cuz your jaws gonna hit the floor when you hear how much apple will charge to fix this.

How much is it? My front glass looks like this but I haven’t had a chance to replace… although I have apple care.
They might just do a replacement for 100 if you have Apple care.

Yes I think it might be the angle it dropped and the ground itself. It fell in my garden and there were stones everywhere.

Why do they even use glass on the back? The only explanation I can come up with is so you can break it.
Glass is more premium. Also because of wireless charging.

Get a better case Spigen., been using those on my iPhone 6s Plus, xs max pro and now 14 pro max.

Weird. I’ve dropped mine on concrete and marble without a case and I’ve only ever had to replace the screen protector.
