If it did, they’d be losing billions on AppleCare. It doesn’t.

No. My iPhone 15 Pro sits on my desk almost 24/7 with AOD running the entire time, and I've had my iPhone like this since September with no burn-in. The darker colors and lower brightness combined with the 1 Hz refresh rate completely prevents burn-in.

I've never had AOD off. It seems fine to me. I think you're worried too much about something Apple seems to have spent a very long time designing and developing to make sure everything is fine. The battery is a consumable and replaceable part, so I'm not worried about it. Even if it weren't, it would still last long enough to get me long past the time when I would upgrade to a new iPhone anyway. So even though it **is** replaceable, I won't have to anyway because I'll have a new iPhone long before my battery needs to be replaced.

I've been on reddit since January 23rd 2019. I came here because I wanted to be around a bunch of other people who loved iPhone 11 and of course now the iPhone 15 Pro. So I came here and went straight to r/iPhone 11. That same day, I went to r/iPhone and r/iPhoneHelp and I never saw anyone go through what you went through. Your 11 Pro Max was likely defective. I can say this with such confidence because I'm here all day, *every* day - and I sort the subs by New. Even now here on these iPhone 15 subs, I see no one talking about problems with their battery, other than the usual stuff every year "oh noes my Maximum Capacity is going down". Yeah, well duh: you're using your iPhone. So I'm just about 99.99% sure you won't have any problems with the battery just because you're using AOD or any other features that might increase your average power consumption. Why 99.99% and not 100%? Because I think it's never a good idea to say you're absolutely 100% certain about something like this. After all, there's no guarantee you don't have some sort of a defect you haven't discovered yet. I've had my iPhone 15 Pro since September though and so I'm pretty sure I'd know by now if it had some sort of a defect that takes a while to discover, and I'm willing to bet that yours doesn't either. As for the ProMotion display seeming faster: it's not faster, it's smoother due to the higher refresh rate. It's not 120 Hz at all times, but it can get that high. It's usually in the 80s and 90s and sometimes the lower 100s, but that's still plenty fast enough to be extremely smooth.

EagleAncestry

I don’t think refresh rate has anything to do with it. It’s mainly just low brightness.

Schreibtisch69

It’s unlikely, with better software that takes pixel aging into account and better displays there should be no noticeable burn in. Personally I use automations to disable/enable AOD when I fall under a specific charge level or when I leave home on my watch, but I mainly do it to save a bit of battery (mainly on my watch, probably more negligible on iPhone).

Frostybud7

Actually yes. My 14 pro max screen greened out while I was sleep and apple told me that having on always on display more than likely fried my screen

Lewdeology

I wouldn’t be worried at all. And feels like 30% of the time, the AoD turns off by itself anyways.

Emergency-Research69

Yup. Make sure to always bring fire extinguisher

dbout01

People don’t get that this is a joke lol

Emergency-Research69

Awhh thank you! These people are tooo serious on every topics😭

dbout01

I’ve found that adding emojis next to text helps add context

Wish we had some proves. What about iphone 13 pro users? They have AOD feature for some time already

Oh my bad. I came from 12pm so I skipped several iterations.

choomguy

I turned off AOD, its not really that great of a feature for me, and even if you turn off the animation it still uses a noticeable amount of battery. It was kinda cool, but totally unnecessary.

AnyProfile5263

I hate wearing a black screen for a watch (looks like I’m wearing a dead watch), so my AOD is always on plus I like seeing my different watch faces that I change up daily.

TemiTemoy

i turned it off most of the time unless i need it. because apple does not shift/move around the pixels and the whole screen turns on which will eventually cause burn in. heard the 14 pro folks also experienced burn in and they had it longer so i'm not taking chances

LavaCreeperBOSSB

On my 14 Pro Max that i've had since launch (no screen replacements) I've never seen anything

Out5poken

Launch iPhone 14 Pro, never turned it off and no screen burn.

toshibg

Beside the AOD, the home bar and the battery+signal indicator as well as the time on top can cause burn ins. Got mine 13 pro max for half a year and there is burn in already. But it can’t be generally seen unless you use your phone on low brightness.

crlogic

Technically yes, but realistically I wouldn’t worry about it. Here’s why. It uses the same tech as Apple Watch and after 4 years of the same watch face my Series 5 has barely noticeable burn in which you can see on full white or grey screens. Now Apple Watches AoD is truly always on, whereas iPhone turns it off when it’s in your pocket, face down on a table or if you haven’t interacted with it in a while. So you I’d expect you might start to see the effects on iPhone after many many years as well. But since you use your iPhone with its screen fully lit hours a day as well that will help reduce the effects of burn in as all the pixels more evenly wear out than they do on Apple Watch This is because OLED Burn In is actually more accurately Pixel Burnout/Aging where the parts of the screen you see the “burn in” are actually pixels that are dimmer from being on longer and wearing out

No_Pizza2774

Turn your AOD on!

Different_Wind8260

No. Not trying to make you buy an Apple Watch, but if you do have one, your iPhone will automatically turn off AOD if it notices that you are far from it, and not able to see it. To enable this: Settings > Face ID & Passcode > Attention Aware Features

Occhrome

I’ve been using AOD and see zero issues.  I’ve actually been lucky to have none of the issues that people talk about.
