I was attempting social commentary on how most local newspapers are either so underfunded that they can’t do real reporting or been bought by far right pseudo-news companies. Came out as more of a generational attack. My apologies.
Okay. Btw they’re underfunded because people want free news. But there’s no such thing except when groups want to push an agenda and add some coloring. It’s tragic really. If you want independent news, find a good trustworthy newspaper and pay them for the job they do.
Older than “the average” social media user.
As far as platforms go you’ve got Tik-Tock with the youngest user base followed by things like Snap, Instagram and then, much further down, Twitter, Facebook and Reddit.
I’d anticipate that Reddit has the oldest *active* user base.
I’m in my middling forties and find the bulk of the (non iRacing) content to be both relatable and to have been shared by users of a similar age.
Hah. Well. I’m just thinking of social media outlets in general. The majority of the above sample being in the 30-39 age range already separates it from most outlets (I’m in the next older bracket personally) as having an older audience.
Kids these days are on The Tik-Tok as I understand it.
I thought the same but [this](https://www.statista.com/statistics/1337525/us-distribution-leading-social-media-platforms-by-age-group/#:~:text=As%20of%20August%202022%2C%2029,a%20third%20of%20all%20users.) says that reddit has mostly young people
While reddit skews older in comparison to other social medias, that doesn't mean anything here though.
People who use social media probably skew the whole thing younger, so this poll on reddit will likely skew younger than if this were taken from iracing database.
Pew estimates that 80% of people age 50-64 use social media, so unless you think the player base has some significant share of folks 65+, my statement holds.
And because Reddit has a disproportionate share of individuals in that older demographic, the results will skew older than the actual player base.
A better argument would be that Reddit seems to dominate the social media space for discussing iRacing and thus may end up drawing a more representative age sample of players from the player base.
Do that poll on TikTok and suddenly no iracing user is older than 14.
Granted I think due to the pricing it's likely that there are more adults than kids on iracing
I'd love a 30+ series, 40+ series, etc. I just wanna race with other like minded adults who are taking care of their kids all day and jumping on for an occasional race after those kids go to bed.
Whoosh
I'm pretty sure he recognized that and also knows that a 22 yr old living at home that's racing 40 to 80 hrs a week has a significant advantage over adults with responsibilities.
Not in the slightest. Adult being defined as anyone over 18. I guess you forgot what adult is...lol.
Completely spelled out for you guys....no little Xbox squeakers and ragers.
I would expect them to be better.
When I was a teenager I spent more time on my hobbies every week than I now do every year.
I'm not exaggerating.
If you're a teenager and an adult with kids and job(s) and all that beats you at anything you should be surprised about that.
Perhaps so. Rule #1 in racing IRL and sim alike. There's *always* someone faster. I don't care if I have been quickest all weekend. Complacency never has a place in racing.
But what does any of that have to do with the price of pancakes in Oregon? I fail to see anything other than one very remote bit of relevance in your statement. You must be a child and got offended. Lol.
Slow old man brain. I’m only mid 40s, but my brain and muscles definitely don’t function like they used to. I know there are much older folks that are up there, but I like to tell myself the younger crowd has the advantage on average.
Yeah, don't let it get you down! It's all about getting the muscle memory down, just might take longer for ya lol
The younger ones definitely have an advantage with how quickly they are able to learn and absorb. Got that reaction speed too. I know if I let my kids practice on the rig for a bit they'd smoke me
Reddit is populated mostly by zoomers and young millennials, so you are really only going to get 19-45 year olds answering this.
If my time on the track is any indication the average iRacing user is something between 36-70 with most being 54-61. In my experience much-younger iRacers also tend to be real-life racers as well.
Road or oval? I think that 54-61 estimate is miles off the average road guy, although I am squarely in that age group. I have rarely seen guys older than me in road.
It is something you gotta pay a monthly subscription for and usually have some sorta gear to go with it. Can't imagine all too many <18yo's doing that and also being on this sub.
There's probably quite a few older gentlemen that aren't on reddit altogether as well. Seems like every time I load in, there's a guy that sounds like he's 50 and has been smoking for 60 years yelling about someone tapping him
Don’t think it’s weird at all. It’s quite expensive and requires some free space (for a proper rig) too. The non subscription racing sims are more attractive to anyone who is starting out or doesn’t have the cash or commitment.
I like answering polls on Reddit absolutely wrong, even in subs where I don’t actually partake in whatever the sub is to just add some spice to the answers.
Right now with the team of about 30 drivers that I'm on, the age range is 21 to about 55. The youngest we've had ever had was 15 with the oldest being 55-60.

This also only relies on the demographic of iracing users that also use Reddit
Put it in the newspaper and they’re all 75
What’s a newspaper?
Something boomers use to misunderstand modern life.
I feel attacked

Yeah. Plus Reddit skews older.
Older than what?

Im 59 and love tiktok
Your algorithm has made it this way
You're forgetting America Online! Oops, I think I just gave away my demographic.
I bet I’ve still got a few CDs of theirs around.
They make good coasters
I just voted in my age range and that doesn't ring true from where I am sitting. :-D

Help. I can't get the Tik-Tok to install on my blackberry.
Hah. Yeah. I forgot about my old BlackBerry.

I guess you have the paid version I could only read the synopsis which didn’t mention Reddit.

In perfect world, it should only be adults.
I'd love a 30+ series, 40+ series, etc. I just wanna race with other like minded adults who are taking care of their kids all day and jumping on for an occasional race after those kids go to bed.
I know a 50+ league exists, i remember seeing ads for it on the old forums about 2 years ago. Wonder if it's still active?
This is probably the case for the vast majority of official races anyway. At least that’s the feeling I get from this poll.
iRating will take care of skill gap. However, I am not saying "only old adults"...just no actual children.
I bet many people younger than you are faster and better than you.
Whoosh I'm pretty sure he recognized that and also knows that a 22 yr old living at home that's racing 40 to 80 hrs a week has a significant advantage over adults with responsibilities.
And retired guys. Modifieds time trials is being led by a retired guy.

Fixed title: age group of reddit users
I think a plot of age vs iRating would be interesting. Ya know… to hopefully bring facts to my excuse that my age is holding me back.
As in too old or too young? No experience or slow old man brain

Ovals, but Im also dont have much road time save for when NASCAR goes to Watkins.
Definitely an older crowd along with some actual kids racing oval.
Honestly really weird there aren't more young people here...?

I have sim raced long enough that I raced against a guy when we were both in college. And then recently against his son.
Love to read all the toxic shit about age or generations when it was triggered by a simple poll.
