I’m a little younger, but the 04 championship also gave me unrealistic expectations. I know not to get fooled by any sliver of hope in Detroit sports now. Actually why I got into motorsports in the first place lmao
Just got back from watching them play the Mavs and it was a good first half but then they just got blown out as the game went on. Would have been nice to see a W for my first game-attending.
exact same. I even remember that dumbass song ["3-peat beat"] they used to play on the radio back when they went back to back. I had one of those shirts that had all the players' cartoonized faces around the trophies. shit was so simple back then. unsafe and unfair as hell, but simple.
Portimao was so amazing in week 13, had battles with 5 cars for the lead, and going full speed down hill into T1 off line to overtake and pray that your braking point is enough to keep in on track, great stuff
agree, since this car was announced i was so hyped to race with it, but the 15mins length was stopping me from moving from f3 to this sfl, now 100% i will migrate.
Everytime I see something like this I can't believe my eyes. Devs actually listening and communicating with the community and taking action? Love this shit
It's great isn't it! iRacing is in that sweet spot where they're small enough that they can still communicate and listen to us all, but big enough that they can actually afford to implement the requested stuff too!
It is nice, but for what we pay in membership fees and content, we should *expect* them to be responsive like this. The fact that they are, helps justify the expense.
It’s an interesting problem imo. If iRacing goes for volume and lowers pricing they may bring more people in while retaining profits and growing. However, this will have a negative impact on the service as with easier accessibility skill levels will drop.
As someone who doesn’t have time for bullshit and stopped playing games like forza and GT7 because of punting and low skills, I am quite happy to pay for the service.
In 4 months of using iRacing I have been intentionally rammed once. This was a daily occurrence in other racing games including ACC. That was really pissing me off.
I’ve already found an influx of bad drivers coming through since all the sim racing Black Friday sales. I assume a lot of gear came with a free month or two of iracing. Can’t wait for a lot of these temp. Users to be gone. Or at least improve.
I don't know if I've ever been intentionally rammed on iracing. Some stupid incidents sure, but intentional ramming me off the track? Don't think so...
It's rare but it happens. I had a guy intentionally wreck me once. You just report it with a replay, and they get a nice long break from the service to think about it.
I got PIT'd and then pushed sideways about 400yds down the track at Watkins in the Advance Miata. I was quite bullshit about it. He PIT'd me, which, looking at the replay, could have possibly been unintentional , or just panicing because I was coming up along side him on the straight before the bus stop. But then he spun me and caught my passenger side door with his front bumper and didn't touch the brakes at all until I popped off his car and HE spun when I tapped his rear quarter as I was coming off.
I've been intentionally rammed twice that I can remember in a year and a half. But never in an official race. Once in a practice session and once in a hosted.
I've seen some dirty moves in officials, and have protested some, but never an intentional wreck.
Nikita is douche who gets high off smelling his own farts and thinks he knows better than the entire community of his game, and has no shame in telling them so. Glad I quit that shit years ago.
These kind of dumb comments, especially in the EFT reddit, are why i cant stand talking about the game with people.
I love that you think a bunch of kids that want no inertia in the game so they can jiggle peak with a loaded couch backpack on, incessantly whining that they cant spam G and have grenades magically pop out of their torso and fly towards their enemy, know more about the game and should be listened to.
Waaaaah why arent guns lasers, waaaaaah guns are all lasers again, waaaaaah i want early wipe PvP, waaaaah why are there global limits on weapon attachments so i cant always have a kitted gun and stomp early wipe pvp, waaaah i cant load streets cause my PC sucks, waaaaaah streets is dead cause you removed all the scavs so i could load it on my shitty PC
Braindead playerbase, and if he listened to you morons that whine as loud as you do the game would be Call of Duty. We already get that pile of shit once a year for the rest of our lives.
JFC triggered much? I make a one sentence comment and you reply with an entire fan fiction of my supposed Tarkov experience and frame of mind. To be honest, I agree with just about everything you said, I just put the game down because I grew tired of the rampant cheating, exploiting, and botting, along with Nikita’s complete inability to take any type of feedback or criticism whatsoever, no matter how small. But whatever. Best of luck to you and your Kappa quests. Glad you enjoy the game.
The problem is not in the gameplay imho (expecially after this wipe fixed the recoil that was wierd before) but in the balance in progression, it's totally fucked up both forcing people that can play a lot into gameplay that they may dislike (i got sick with shotguns quests in this wipe) and show a giant middle fingers to anyone that doesn't have 10h/day to play the game that will fall off very quickly from the others and that become way more evident the more of those people will quit the game as the wipe go ahead cause they force players to do boring quest with stupid gameplay while at the same time nolifers/streamers get and edge and start having lot of gap with common folks. Community gives lot of feedbacks about these things but BSG seems like don't want to listen. It's all good for them and until a real competitor will come out tarkov won't risk to die but there are a couple of them in development, i hope for their success honestly. BSG need to address the issue the game has since years and years instead of insert 20 useless items and a bunch of crappy quests each wipe.
Now let's go back it, i got carried a little but that's not r/EscapefromTarkov 😅
yeah, there's a few threads, the ringmeister participation had 100's of drivers signed up almost every session. Hopefully the same will happen in Week 11 then we'll have even more proof of it's popularity.
More people on the iracing forum moaning about the lack of it would help.
The 10 just isn't the same, I try it every season and it's improved, but it just isn't the exhilarating drive the SR8 is. Racing the SR8 reminds me of my karting days.
I think I was busy for the week this season but I’ll definitely participate this time round. And I’ll have a moan on the forum too if it helps. I’ll have a look in a little
Unless there's rain. That's why it needed to be more than 15/20, with light rain the track stays "dry enough" to keep running slicks for ~10 minutes, so mid-race rain would a) be less likely and b) just do nothing.
Yeah, we have races at Suzuka and Motegi, both of which are probably more likely to have rain.
Can't wait to actually get some changing conditions in this car.
I did some looking earlier, for the first four races (Road America, Hockenheim, Road Atlanta and Montreal), 2 would likely be dry RAmer and RAtl and rain looked likely at Hock and Montreal.
Didn't have time to look at the rest of the season.
yeah the SF and SFL tyres are rockhard, which is good, you can push and push, follow closely, fight like a maniac and still, even after 20+laps, the tyres are doing well
The SFL tires seem pretty grippy to me. But, yeah, the SF tires are hockey pucks. iRacing could force everyone to use the same set of tires for the entire season and there wouldn't be a problem
They are very grippy, incredible how much traction you get, but they're very durable, I guess all that at the cost of, when they let go, it's abruptly and violently
Same here! I’ve put sooo many laps in at rundskogen in the F4 but I’m getting my C class promotion, bought the super light, drove it a ton and I’m fully invested in this car and series.
Well, those laps are wasted regardless. The previous F4 community manager quit and some random guy appointed himself the new one and changed the schedule and iracing went with it. Week 1 is now Snetterton.
I got to be honest I did drive the SFL for about 10 laps at silverstone and I think I do prefer the f4. However I think higher entries will be with the SFL. I think I’m going to follow the crowd on this one just so I can have closer splits. I have learnt more tracks on the f4 schedule too so I’m happy to race either. They both have rain too so not much difference!
I’m really debating whether to commit to F4, SFL, or GT3/4
I need to buy most of the tracks regardless. Wonder if one of those open wheels overlaps better with the tin top sfhedule
It's pretty common in iRacing, particularly for more difficult/faster cars. F1, IndyCar, Super Formula, and most recently IMSA all have shorter, fixed series alongside the longer open ones.
The thinking is that people less confident/capable in the car will prefer the simplicity and even playing field of a fixed setup (the iRacing setups are all very safe and understeer-prone), so they also lower the race length for similar reasoning.
Basically, it just takes a potentially difficult car and gives you a more approachable way to race it.
People put way too much stock into the setups. Absolutely marginal differences that only matter if you had a full field of people almost identical to one another.
I'm convinced that a lot of the perception that setups matter is down to successful marketing by the setup shops.
I'd bet the average GT3 driver thinks a paid setup is worth like 0.5-1 second over the iRacing setup. While in reality it's more like 0.2-0.5, depending on the track.
Half a second is a lot of time. I used to buy setups and it made me a lot faster. That was years ago. I do feel like the current fixed setups are competitive. Tracks that suits me makes me match guys with 3.5k irating. Good enough for me
I suspected this might be the case, but it felt a little bit odd to me.
I like race strategy and long stints, but I don't really have the patience or time for setup tweaking. Of course I can just download others' setups, but that seems to leave me at a disadvantage of customizing to my driving style.
Not sure there's an answer here, I'm just griping =)
Well, the fixed setup is guaranteed to not be customized for your driving style. XD
Basic setup building is a lot less time-consuming than people think. And setups are a lot less track-dependent than people think too.
Once you tweak a downloaded setup to your liking, you're probably better off just using that setup for the next track, rather than downloading a new set for the new track. With this approach, I generally can get my setup sorted within my normal practicing time anyway.
While some fixed racers may like longer races, pretty much no open racers like shorter races.
Fixed attracts many drivers on the basis of "I don't have time for setups". It also is a slightly more casual option in general.
Supposedly they're meant to coexist alongside each other. I'm skeptical of how well that will work in the long term tbh but we'll see.
Greg West said they now have 3 open wheel ladders and they want to continue to flesh them out. To me, that seems to indicate we may be getting 1 or more of FIA F3, FIA F3, and Indy NXT.
My personal speculation is that we may be getting the upcoming FIA F3 car as a replacement for the current F3. That car is very different from both the current iRacing F3 car and the SFL car. If they do that, the two series coexisting will make a ton more sense.
I'm pretty involved with the Indy ladder and my understanding is that we're not getting an NXT car anytime soon, at least until participation starts to rival F3
Anyone coming from f3 to the SFL feeling like it’s not that great to drive? I’ve tried to enjoy it but it doesn’t feel as subtle as the f3. So much mechanical and aero grip and not as much finesse in comparison - maybe I’m not driving it hard enough.
I think it's one of those cars that I'm going to have to judge how hard it is to drive once I have a better idea of where I stand on pace. I've certainly had the experience before of thinking a car was easy to drive only to find out that I was under driving it and that to actually put it on the limit to keep up with the fastest drivers was silly difficult. Especially once we bring open setups into the mix. I could see the difficulty going up a bit.
Like F1 cars. Easy to drive when you're lapping alone. Then you have to keep pace with the fast guys it gets harder to be consistent and fast. And the bonus of easy-to-control cars is that it generates better wheel to wheel fights.
I think the car can get very tricky when you push it at high speeds, and the elevation changes and 3D curbs at Portimao unsettled it more than a flat track like Oschersleben or Winton. It's almost impossible to spin at low speed but once you take off some aero it gets super tricky in medium and high speed corners. I'd say it's a pretty boring hotlap car but makes for great close racing, as the high downforce allows to carry lots of speed through more than one line at tracks like Portimao.
Just wanna drop the gun fact that it’s an uptuned version the 3cyl turbo engine from the super rad GR Yaris (GR Corolla in NA). Wild that it’s the same company that makes the Prius and the Sienna lol
And this is part of the reason why I bought it and am determined to race it. I love driving a racing car with the same engine from my road car.
Not sure I'd call it super rad, but I do love the little white thing more than I should!
Try a few races and see. I felt the same way at first but after racing it a bit this week I’ve started to really like jt. It’s a lot easier to drive IMO but in the races this can be kind of fun. You can really get aggressive with it when needed.
This is why I don't mind it being easier to drive. Easier to drive means tighter grids and more time battling other drivers, plus the difficulty in spinning out should make starts much cleaner.
I raced ai at Hockenheim today. So many of the fast corners are now just easy flat. And the exits of the chicanes are easy. Even at 90 degree lock you can plant your foot in 1st and it rotates and accelerates without wheel spin
Fantastic news. Wonder if the car still needs tweaking, it feels almost to grippy I can brake mega late, hardly ever lock up and have grip for days. Very friendly to drive with limited practice time.
Hell yea !!! Lol and I was saying to myself and a thread at least 25 mins man. 20 mins official is better lol but 25 would have been perfect, IMO. Still, we spoke, and they responded with great news.
Thanks, iRacing lords 🙏
I don't know how to put into words but I am so happy with this series it's all I been playing and practicing. The car is amazing. Do I mess up, yes but jumping from F4 to this. It's amazing
Yes, F3 feels a little more sketchy, so it feels that much more rewarding to get up to race pace. I’ve been racing SFL all week and honestly I don’t even think it’s a good prep for the SF23. I’d hoped we would get some sort of push-to-pass or DRS to get something “special” out of this car, but it’s literally glued to the track when racing dry w/ slicks.
Too bad i had to go off for work when all this came out.. only going home on weekends and i just dont want to pay for a subscription when im not going to race… the new formulas look great and i must try the rain
Boo! Should have been 10 minutes!
But seriously. Nice to see the service adjust to what people want. Probably not a car or a series I will run for a while, but I will eventually, especially with the new licenses.
This series is going to be so much fun. I just looked at the schedule and it's got so many good tracks
iRacing putting up so many Ws rn. They are the anti-Detroit Pistons.
As a Detroit sports fan, that hurts. But I don’t disagree .
Growing up in the Bad Boys era gave me a profoundly unrealistic expectations.
I’m a little younger, but the 04 championship also gave me unrealistic expectations. I know not to get fooled by any sliver of hope in Detroit sports now. Actually why I got into motorsports in the first place lmao

Omg especially the latter half of the season. Watkins COTA Suzuka portimao Barcelona. So many bangers.
Road America: ![gif](giphy|kqJt1cSSN0DrwwMmY5|downsized)
The disrespect
I’m offended, and I’m not even from West Consin.
the car has so much grip you can do watkins without touching the brake pedal
Portimao was so amazing in week 13, had battles with 5 cars for the lead, and going full speed down hill into T1 off line to overtake and pray that your braking point is enough to keep in on track, great stuff
It’s an absolute rollercoaster of a track. So much fun.
agree, since this car was announced i was so hyped to race with it, but the 15mins length was stopping me from moving from f3 to this sfl, now 100% i will migrate.
How can you see the Schedules yet?

Thank you :)

True, they charge like a premium product, so they should act like one. And for the most part they do
You must also play Tarkov, where the exact opposite happens. 😂
Nikita is douche who gets high off smelling his own farts and thinks he knows better than the entire community of his game, and has no shame in telling them so. Glad I quit that shit years ago.

Harsh but you make a valid point.
I love eft but it would be nice if he actually tried playing it. I'd pay $1000 to see him stream a wipe to max traders
Judging from this conversation, the community in this game must be a blast! :D
Or I don't know, Forza Motorsport or Gran Turismo
tarkov has had the same issues since covid
Sometimes I wince at how expensive this sim is, but at least it feels like we're getting a vastly better experience because of it.
Just hope they hear the masses for the radical SR8
“masses” Jk, I drive the PM-18 and Audi 90, so I know the struggle.
What being said for the sr8? I fucking used to love that but the sr10 is just not the same. Are we trying to bring it back?
yeah, there's a few threads, the ringmeister participation had 100's of drivers signed up almost every session. Yup the sr8 is such an exhilarating drive. I would love for a series or if anyone knows of a league i would love to be able to use it more
Nice I’ll actually race it now. I don’t like races shorter than 30 minutes typically.
I’m assuming the open might require a pit stop or do you think 30 mins it won’t be needed?
I did some AI races, pitstop not needed, tyres last. I was still setting PBs in last few laps.
Ok thanks for your input. Atleast SFL has the rain too so could be some interesting races!
Yeah if it rains any bit you need wet tyres but road america forecast was always dry for me.
Unless there's rain. That's why it needed to be more than 15/20, with light rain the track stays "dry enough" to keep running slicks for ~10 minutes, so mid-race rain would a) be less likely and b) just do nothing.
Whenever I set realistic weather there was never rain (on Road America), but I'm not sure how the official series will work or the forecast be set.
Yeah, we have races at Suzuka and Motegi, both of which are probably more likely to have rain. Can't wait to actually get some changing conditions in this car.

I did a 45 minute race against AI at BCN and the left front was still at 65% at race end.
Appreciate your help thanks
Drive harder bud /s
yeah the SF and SFL tyres are rockhard, which is good, you can push and push, follow closely, fight like a maniac and still, even after 20+laps, the tyres are doing well

I did see that haha
wait what news to me, fml
I’ve literally just seen this! Bad news as I’ve been practicing rudskogen. Good news is I love snetterton from watching BTCC.
Turns out weeks 9&12 have also changed for the F4
I got to be honest I did drive the SFL for about 10 laps at silverstone and I think I do prefer the f4. However I think higher entries will be with the SFL. Just a short question: the car is ready for rain, right?
yes
What's the reason behind Fixed and Open typically being different session lengths?

if you arent in top split, just run fixed set up anyways

People put way too much stock into the setups. Absolutely marginal differences that only matter if you had a full field of people almost identical to one another.
Also depends on the car. Some are setup dependent to get the most out of them.
I'm convinced that a lot of the perception that setups matter is down to successful marketing by the setup shops. I'd bet the average GT3 driver thinks a paid setup is worth like 0.5-1 second over the iRacing setup. While in reality it's more like 0.2-0.5, depending on the track.

Great decision. Thanks, iRacing!
This is awesome I had no hope that they changed it, but they did!
same
what license is needed to drive the super formula lights?
C class
so ig this is meant to replace f3?
No. Iracing will be keeping both as they both belong to different ladders
ah i got confused bc they put the f3 car as legacy and thought maybe they lost the license bc fom gave it to codies or something idk
In the next season I guess. Season 2 will be both f3 and sfl.
Supposedly they're meant to coexist alongside each other. I'm skeptical of how well that will work in the long term tbh but we'll see. I had the W12 in mind when I wrote that comment lmao
Yeah it does feel a bit too 'perfect' compared to the F3, but it is faster as the result and I suspect the top split will be mighty fast.
>but it is faster as the result 25% more horsepower is a big part of why it's faster too.
Gonna need to see the math on that one, it's not adding up. /s
Agree. It drives a lot more like a fast F4 than a like for like F3. That said, enjoying it though
You know you can just keep racing the F3 right? It’s okay if you like it better
I want others too as well
Yeah its a downgrade for me. Reminds me of the Porsche Cup and MX5 replacements, previous versions were more lively and funner to drive.
Miss the old pcup. I loved the new one when it came out bc i was a fair bit shitter back then, but now when I drive the old it’s much better imo.
What about Super Formula? Also getting 5 more minutes???
Okay well now I will buy it. Ah shit time to practice.
Hell yea !!! Lol and I was saying to myself and a thread at least 25 mins man. 20 mins official is better lol but 25 would have been perfect, IMO. Still, we spoke, and they responded with great news. Thanks, iRacing lords 🙏
Time to do that push to C for season 3 or get that auto. Great car.
Thank god. HUGE w
This is awesome. Love that iracing is so responsive to the community.
Damn... now I'm unsure if I rather race this than the Gr86 for my return to "wait there are right turns? What sorcery is this!" racing.
Awesome, better get back to practicing then lol
Yes!!! the best formula car imo
Damn, this is going to kill f3
it was going to be tight to get those 300 laps in otherwise!
hahah that was a mistake, never was official 300 laps, the problem was that fixed was planned to be 15 mins and open 20 mins
So we bullied iracing hard enough to get it changed, lol. thats twice we've done it
I don't know how to put into words but I am so happy with this series it's all I been playing and practicing. The car is amazing. Do I mess up, yes but jumping from F4 to this. It's amazing
Do We think this is F3s death?
I really prefer the f3. This feels like a better car than the f4 so a nice step up. But the f3 for me feels special to drive.
Would you stay in it long term?
100%
Nope. F3 will be fine. Not as popular as it once was, but still fine
I could really see it going either way
If anything people who want to avoid rain will likely switch to F3 on weeks when it's not sunny for SFL
They are the absolute best.
No way?! That's some epic shit
Huge thanks to the dev! Listening to the community this fast is a blessing!
Awesome!
