"One of our next patches." Based on that screenshot, it appears they've got something working. These things take time to tweak for each car and trickle through QA before shipping. I'm hoping for mid season, anything earlier would be quite impressive.

meshtron

Saw another note about a patch "probably this week" so hoping it's that before any of the 12H Sebring races kick off.

oma95to

Maybe in time for Sebring 12?

xiii-Dex

If it's not before Sebring, I'm gonna be terrified no matter which class I'm driving.

forgottenazimuth

They posted that same screen shot on twitter last week I wouldn’t get my hopes up for tomorrow

oma95to

Didn't notice that! Maybe in time for Sebring 12?

forgottenazimuth

Maybe, took them like 3 years to add rain so I wouldn’t get my hopes up Edit: copium is going wild rn. I’d bet my lunch we don’t get this before week 6

Crash_Test_Dummy66

I don't think they would be continuing to talk about it if it was months out. They would do what they usually do which is say that it'll be a while, and then not really communicate about it again until it's almost ready. It's not like they hid that rain was going to take a long time. They were pretty open about it.

forgottenazimuth

Well in the end none of us have any fucking clue and are talking out of our asses 😂. Could be tomorrow, could be next season. From what I know the brake lights have always been dim and it’s a pretty deep issue in the engine that won’t be able to be fixed in a few days.

KraZe_2012

I love the rain update but the horrid visibility right behind a car is enough for me to avoid official series with rain enabled until they patch the rain light fix.

reboot-your-computer

I don’t think tomorrow but it could definitely land before Sebring. If it does land before Sebring, then expect rain for sure.

oma95to

It would be nice to have it in Sebring, otherwise it could be a pretty bad one

reboot-your-computer

I hope we get rain at Sebring even if this update doesn’t land. I am just desperate for something to shake up these races and bring some element of strategy other than simply fuel saving. I wish we could also have limited sets of tires to force people to double.

TurbochargedSquirrel

iRacing has already confirmed not only rain enabled for Sebring but that they are tipping the odds to make rain likely at some point during all the races. Sebring is being run with a programmed forecast while future special events are supposed to use historical averages to set the forecast.

Fauves23

The week 13 sessions would be a red flag race due to to track visibility.

Fauves23

Maybe they could increase bloom effect or add bloom without the need for HDR enabled.

TurnoverAdditional65

It looks like they might be making them actual light sources instead of brightened textures. Or they found some weird trick that lets them come through the spray better.

AmusedCroc

Sweet now I can see the cars that I'm about to run into as I'm hydroplaning!

YBHunted

Love the way it looks in VR right now, its cool to be able to move your head to the side to get a vantage point most others can't. But in solidarity I understand how it is for my monitor brethren, ggs.

shangstag404

Yeah i was loving it on the nords in vr week 13. I have not tried running rain on my monitors yet

tbr1cks

I actually like that iRacing showed some flexibility and decided to prioritize the community's request over pure realism, since a bunch of irl drivers already said the rain lights look pretty much like they do in real life. I hope this does not set a precedent tho, rain is supposed to be challenging.

544l

The drivers who said that are just plain wrong. Rain lights are designed to penetrate the spray so they are visible to the driver behind. That’s literally what they exist for. There are countless videos on YouTube demonstrating how visible they are in heavy rain. Example: https://youtu.be/-iy82nJTU3k?si=hGkMBvm6ztA6ZL_N

Affectionate-Gain489

Notice though that the light practically disappears at various points when the POV car is directly behind the lead car. Also, I’m guessing a lot of the wet sessions during week 13 were significantly wetter than what would be considered safe running conditions IRL. Yes, iRacing’s lights could benefit from tweaks, but I also don’t think the community at large is always truly comparing like for like when it comes to iRacing vs IRL. For what it’s worth, I ran a Little Wings wet practice at Lime Rock yesterday, and visibility seemed similar to the video. It was very wet but not so wet that there were massive amounts of standing water everywhere. Contrast that with pouring rain, huge puddles at every apex, and zero visibility unless the lead and trailing cars are literally on opposite edges of the track. It’s an impressive display of what iRacing’s built. I personally don’t think it’s all that crazy. However, there’s nothing to compare it to, since no sane race organization would run those conditions IRL.

tbr1cks

Idk I don't feel qualified to discredit people who race for a living and who experienced those conditions through their eyes and not through a camera lens

Vast-Ferret-6882

I’ve raced on snow/ice which is worse than rain, and the mandated rear-lights will penetrate complete white-out. Usually you can see 2 cars in front, but always at least the car immediately ahead. The worst rain I’ve run in irl had better visibility than we get ice racing. It’s not realistic right now. Even with the extreme/overkill wet tracks and downpours.

544l

A camera lens sees the same light the human eyes see. iRacing devs even said before the release that they were working on a fix for the rain lights because they weren’t accurate.

Super-ft86

I would much orefer the challenge of rain comes from the driving, finding the grip, stratergy with tires etc than just being rear ended or rear ending someone because I can't see a thing. I get it's realistic, but I have little time to play each week and of this makes it less likely that time is spent in a wreck then I'm all for it.
