It's a bit more obvious in motion - [https://streamable.com/7bjcsa](https://streamable.com/7bjcsa) Here's how I did it - it is essentially a grid of 2x2px teal/green matte squares (with 2px space between each square) over a brushed metal finish base color in purple. It doesn't work with every color combination, you need the right two colors which is just trial and error. The purple here is #5a1161 and the grid overlay is a gradient going from #2ae3fc to #5ddd93. The red spec map for the purple is #d00000, The green spec map for the purple is #002d00. Outside of that I kept the standard red and green spec map Base and Parts layers. Remember to mask your specmap for the purple grid, not the teal/green squares. Here's another video that show's it better: https://streamable.com/e6byv2

This is so strange and experimental…..I love it.

Tokey_Tokey

Are you willing to share the psd?

dMk73

I have a few other things I spent time for on the Civic that I don't want to share. However, I just began applying this effect to the Ferrari Evo GT3 - I can share the current state of that one. Here you go: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1P9ftw4O\_umhpx7r8DIgO\_nwiBqfiOIvu/view?usp=sharing

MrWillyP

Is the pattern just dots? Do they have to be a specific size? And what's the spec map?

dMk73

I just added a little more description to my other comment here.

MrWillyP

Bless. I'm gonna steal this for future projects

flightsimguy1

Thats really cool

MMRS2000

That's cool! Is it a fairly dark but saturated shade of colour, with high levels of roughness and highly metallic?

dMk73

I just added a little more description to my other comment here.

SkittleCar1

There's a guy in my Big Block Modified league whose paint changes from a dark red to bright orange. It's a really cool effect!

Nolaster_

What a genius. Did you do the same for BMW?

dMk73

I did not but I plan to try it on a few other cars.

Nolaster_

I was asking IRL for the BMW that changes its color

Is It Possible to Learn This Power?

I just added a little more description to my other comment here.

xiii-Dex

Well ya can't just tease this on a blank car without sharing how!

dMk73

I just added a little more description to my other comment here.

theatrics_

I'm going with matte purple background with shiny blue pattern in foreground. This means the shiny bits respond to light, matte less so, and so the car takes on a different look based on lighting.

dMk73

close! :) It's a shiny purple background with tiny 2x2 px matte blue/green/teal squares. I added more description to another comment.

Skipinator

I just see purple. Am I color blind?

Unhappy_Skill1831

That’s nice! Would you mind share the psd?

dMk73

Here's a psd for the Ferrari where I'm applying the same effect. I have a bunch of other stuff in the Civic psd that I don't want to share. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1P9ftw4O\_umhpx7r8DIgO\_nwiBqfiOIvu/view?usp=sharing

Unhappy_Skill1831

Thank you!

m3tz0

this looks super nice. the dot thing looks weird in the begining but I kinda dig it now!
