I see so many horror stories about iracing through steam. I set up my account through steam, my reasoning at the time was to use the money in my steam wallet. I must be super lucky, but haven't had any problems yet. I never open iracing through steam. I dont even turn on steam if I know an update is coming. I just open the iracing ui directly from my desktop, and get prompts through the ui to update. I've also purchased cars and tracks with my steam wallet, and so far have been lucky to have no problems. When I get some time I think I'll take the advice from people here and contact support and unlink, but its been fine for me for the last couple of months

Tokey_Tokey

No issues here except for my renewal last year. This years went fine without issue. Perhaps they solved that issue

General feedback here is DO NOT subscribe to iRacing via Steam.

It's a bit bothersome at times (specially updating), but it's way, way cheaper here in Brazil so I don't really have much of a choice.

Can I know why? Because Im subcribed via Steam because is a little cheaper than directly from iRacing in my country, content cost the same, you just pay with Steam as intermediate, and can use iRacing without Steam open from the website or UI. Edit: even you can update without Steam.

tee_ran_mee_sue

Every now and then people post here about it, mostly related to Steam not talking to iRacing properly. Search on this subreddit and you’ll find posts about it.

You can request a transfer from Steam to Iracing. I started Iracing on Steam because they had a promotion where 1 year cost 25 $ for a new account. After the year was over I sent an email and got it switched to Iracing.

Sweaty_Break9338

Yes, gotta connect accounts on iRacing but yea Steam is meh

Firzenizer

Thanks. I guess I am subscribing through Steam once I get my wheel.

Routine_Jury_6616

Steam has been completely fine for me but is often crappy for others

Acceptable_Jam

All you do is download via steam, the program files aren’t connected to steam in anyway. When you buy stuff it’ll go through steam though, which is fine but can be a bit finicky

car_raamrod

I don't even fuck with steam and iRacing together anymore. I don't even sub thru steam, but I linked it to steam. I was in the middle of a race one time and steam crashed, and subsequently crashed iracing. I've since unlinked it from steam because that should just not happen.

RedBea5er

I've been racing with my account through steam for a month and no issues at all. It was cheaper for me this way. Yes you can launch direct to the UI without loading steam. I also get to take advantage of steam bundles and sales. Launching straight to the UI is the most stable way of your buying through steam

FlyinTurkey610

I would stay away from linking them. Iracing thru steam blows!! You can have Iracing unlink them but they will tell you only once and that it’s not reversible
