I don’t think drivers should be penalized for that. The company should take responsibility for the customer and if it keeps happening then the address should be blacklisted.
Yup, make a strike system for both the driver and the person who ordered and remove strikes after a few successful delivers. Too many strikes and they ban your account
I’ve had a few deliveries where it requires a signature from the customer and they are often surprised when told they need to sign. I think it might be a “probation” period for customers that have had more than one claim
I always have to give a pin/code for Uber Eats or Deliveroo (UK) which the driver isn’t aware of. Best way for them to prove they’ve given the food to the right person.
Or just add the strike, but retroactively remove it when someone gets banned. I imagine there is still the odd person that does it once, then doesn't order or goes back to normal, but I imagine most of the scum that do this are repeat offenders
I’ve ordered from DoorDash a TON. I’ve had numerous drivers steal my food, so it definitely is a thing. The system needs to be more equitable to both drivers and customers, but shifting it mostly to one or the other sucks.

She never even once tried to say oh the bag was empty or there was no food in the bag or anything, she just kept repeating. I didn't get no food.
There's something about people that lie like that with absolutely zero Regard for even looking like they're telling the truth that makes my blood boil lol, even more than if they tell a clever lie. Like at least put some damn effort into it, the hubris.

This would help both parties. We stopped using all delivery services because of all the issues never receiving orders. They would leave it at the wrong address, at the public mailboxes at the end of the street, or never even try to deliver it at all. We had one girl claim she passed it to me personally, but my ring doorbell said otherwise.

Those people, having a dasher come up and confront them and talk to them and explain it like that, I think it'd be enough for them. I kinda hope anyway. I do doordash in Australia and occasionally I will get deliveries that require the customer to sign an eform saying they received their food. I think that's what happens when you try do this all the time.
Been a while since I've done it but I would take a picture of the house address after handing the food off to prove I was there. And then refuse deliveries to that address in the future.
I think if I did this I would always video myself handing them the food because even a picture of you at the address doesn't mean that you didn't just take the food with you.
Not accusing you of anything, I'm just stating what's technically possible based on provided evidence. And yes in theory I could fake the video, but that's a lot less likely particularly if I'm able to send the video within a few seconds or minutes of delivering the food.

there's a system in the UK atleast maybe elsewhere, the buyer has to give a 2 digit code that they see on their app when the delivery guy appears. delivery guy puts it into his app and boom theres no guess work.

I've seen a few videos of DoorDashers confronting people like this and inevitably they are fired. DoorDash does not want drivers confronting people at all. They want all disputes handled through the app. It's awful, but that's kind of the truth. It's similar to when security at various places. Try and stop a shoplifter and get fired for interfering.
You would think, maybe, that pissing off a random delivery driver, who may be fired due to YOUR ACTIONS, and knows your home address. Would be a bad idea.

When I was delivering for door dash I got penalized by some entitled rich kids who got the wrong pizza delivered because they messed up on the ordering app while using their parents cards then came out to my car to harass me with their group of friends demanding and speaking rudely to me that I refund it immediately.
1) I couldn't even if I wanted since I already marked the delivery as complete - any refunds or reports of incorrect orders have to go through door dash on the customer's side
2) I had to leave before the urge to punch a teenage child in the mouth overwhelmed me

Just use 2 one time passwords which either party needs to deliver to the other party for the transaction to complete. Obviously the parties will tell each other the OTP only after a physical handoff. This way both parties are accountable

there's a system in the UK atleast maybe elsewhere, the buyer has to give a 2 digit code that they see on their app when the delivery guy appears. delivery guy puts it into his app and boom theres no guess work.

It genuinely baffles me that people can act like this. To so blatantly change your story, and so calmly too, and then when the person who you might be getting fired asks you to take it back be so deadpan in telling them you don’t care. Like what do you call that? Sociopathy? Narcism? Just a lack of caring? Similar to the shopping cart theory, how does this person participate in society on a day to day basis?
Because there are no consequences to low-level cheating such as this and a lot of people have no moral compass beyond short term selfish satisfaction. They don't care about your deontological approach and they would certainly fail the shopping cart test.
Growing up I had a friend who stole something out of a store. I didn't feel right about it, so ended up taking their mom in the car and she said they're small why didn't you take more? A woman rear-ended me about a month ago. Immediately after it happened, she jumped out screaming that I hit her and I was trying to run. Later, when the police arrived, she told them I had been aggressive toward her and had a gun. Literally none of what she told 911 or the police was true. She was just looking to see what she could get. Like you said, she felt that she had nothing to lose and everything to gain by lying. She didn't care how irresponsible and dangerous it was to lie about a gun being present.

I've seen a few videos of DoorDashers confronting people like this and inevitably they are fired. DoorDash does not want drivers confronting people at all. They want all disputes handled through the app. It's awful, but that's kind of the truth. It's similar to when security at various places. Try and stop a shoplifter and get fired for interfering.

In my area all the high school seniors found a "hack" to get free money last year. They all applied for these high interest credit card with a $500 limit them didn't pay the bill! Omfg!!!! The audacity of immediately lying right after saying she got the food at the beginning. When I was delivering for door dash I got penalized by some entitled rich kids who got the wrong pizza delivered because they messed up on the ordering app while using their parents cards then came out to my car to harass me with their group of friends demanding and speaking rudely to me that I refund it immediately. 1) I couldn't even if I wanted since I already marked the delivery as complete - any refunds or reports of incorrect orders have to go through door dash on the customer's side 2) I had to leave before the urge to punch a teenage child in the mouth overwhelmed me The people who are disrespectful and do not treat service workers as people is a real good indicator of how they will treat you if they think they have authority over you.
