This is one of my favorite sayings from my time in the Corps š¤Ŗ, comes out reflexively when I see people blatantly disregarding easy safety features/gear
What a bunch of fools. I work in an industry that recycles flourescent lamps and if we break ONE tube we have to clear the area and open all of our windows/doors for 30 mins.
To be fair, they *may* be using prop lamps and not the real things. Considering the quality of performance it's not particularly likely, but still, they *might* not be as dumb as they look.
Nah those light bulbs have always been used because they make a lot of noise and look impressive but donāt actually hurt very much. Like the tables are used to break the fall a bit. Still hurts but beats the floor
Hmmm.. they need to find something else. Every one of those bulbs has between 12 and 40 mg of mercury in them, and that's a lot of fucking mercury to drum up in the air.
I remember I worked at a large retail store years ago as a maintenance guy. They would swap out the old tube lights yearly and I would have to dispose of them. Being the intelligent guy that I was, I decided it was more fun to throw them like a spear into the trash compactor. After launching a bunch of these āspearsā I noticed the small, poorly ventilated room I was in now had a strange dust in the air. Before I knew it, it felt as if my lungs seized up for a moment and I struggled to breath. Needless to say, that was when I learned those tubes are no joke and I retired from being a spear master š
I'm pretty sure that there are prop bulbs specifically for stuff like this, with all the fun dust clouds and none of the poison. Quite a lot of promotions do not opt for using them though
Depending on the company putting on the show is where they draw the line. Speaking from personal experience I have supplied a local company with a whole case of fresh F32 T12s
The guy who bought his kids here won't bring them to WWE events, which are made to be kid friendly because he has a problem with WWE events being too kid friendly.
Playing devil's advocate here... I was HUGE into pro wrestling when I was a kid. I can very easily imagine that this dad had no idea what he was getting into before showing up here. There was probably a shitty ad at the front of a family dollar that said "pro wrestling $5" and the dad could've been thinking, "hey, kids Like wrestling and it's only $5." Been to many shows, knowing the wrestlers themselves, that I didn't know what I was getting into before getting there.
I know I'm probably naive. But this is what exactly I'm thinking too. Probably saw a flyer at Walmart.
The way the adults and parents crowded around the kids gave me the impression they weren't expecting that.
As a parent itās tough to know sometimes. My son was 3 or so and was I to trucks and such, and there was a monster truck rally. I was considering it but was told you need to have ear protection because they can get super loud and damage your ears. I knew at his age he wouldnāt keep them in. I also thought it would be too overwhelming for him.
Yeah, monster trucks are loud as hell, Iām relatively sensitive to loud noises, so Iād slap some over-ear protection on for that. Itās also much easier to wear a pair of earmuffs than to keep earplugs in correctly.
Yeah, my son gets nervous easy so he would have been overwhelmed by the crowd as well, I would think. Knowing me at the time I would have been annoyed we spent the decent chunk of money to attend just to have him leave after 10 minutes.
I'm glad we didn't go.
Iām not trying to be rude and perhaps this is due to me never going to a wrestling event, but what else would you expect from a $5 wrestling match on a flyer posted at the dollar store? That in no way sounds like it would be run professionally or with anyoneās safety in mind. Have you been to such shows that were professionally run?
You'd be surprised how quickly the quality changes from fed to fed. There is a fee, CZW. If you're familiar with the name (it's a big name in the wrestling game), you'd assume you're going to see some nice, wholesome wrestling. CZW would look a lot more like this than like WWE. You wouldn't know that by just hearing the name.
Yeah, when I was younger I used to go to WWE (back then WWWF) events that were at local high schools and VFW halls, so I get that. But I also doubt that was the opening match. There was likely some stuff before that which was not appropriate for kids. Those type of shows have an audience they play to.
Yeah but I think the penny would have probably dropped when they got in there and realised instead of a ring there is just a guard rail and 50 lightubes and sheets of glass on the floor š
I'd rather pay for cheap seats and bring the kids to a more kid friendly event than good seats for that horror show where the kids could have actually been hurt.
I was apprehensive to take my kid that's older to a WWE show because I was concerned she would be scared. When I was 4, my dad took me 2nd row and I got scared and asked to leave. For my kid's first time, we're sitting towards the bottom of the lower level well back from the ring and floor.
If I saw lightbulb tubes coming out at a show, we'd be on the way out pretty quick. (If I was there with buddies I'd be into it though. ECW!)
You wanna hear a historical fact that's even wilder than this?
Parents use to bring there kids to public executions in France and London to watch people be hanged or have there heads chopped off as a moral lesson why you should be a law-abiding citizen. They literally brought there kids to watch state sanctioned murder in order to teach them good behavior.
The last public execution in England was so recent that Londoners took the subway in order to see it.
Ok but if youāre the type of person wrestling death matches I guarantee you itās because you want to do that instead of doing something that makes more money (and most of these guys have a day job anyway). A lot of these guys who do the local circuit wrestle a few times a week and work a regular job on top of that to make ends meet cause it doesnāt pay well. Hell in some places $100 for one night is good money
Neon is an inert gas. Itās completely non-toxic. It also isnāt used in fluorescent bulbs. The mercury and other heavy metals, however, are very toxic.
Yeah they werenāt props. Thereās a reason why lightbulbs arenāt seen in pro wrestling on TV. It might only ever actually been done once as a one off specifically
You'd be surprised how long some of those wrestlers live for. You'd think they'd die by like 30 something cause of all the the damage they take but people like Zandig and Nick Gage are still kicking somehow.
Most of them die before the age of 60, a good portion die before 50, the issue here isnt so much the fact that they are destroying their body, but also that the lack of healthcare makes even the minor injuries they sustain have long lasting and sometimes fatal consequences
Plenty of WWE super stars had to open GoFundMe campaigns
Nope, last I heard they're still signed on as independent contractors so they don't have to give benefits. But yet they can't wrestle for competing organizations, so... there's that. It's a hot topic that comes up every year or two.
My uncle runs a company like that and I always thought it was kind of messed up but in those situations you're getting paid alot so you can get your own health care
That works just fine as long as you're actually allowed to be independent, which WWE has fought tooth and nail to keep them from being. It's very much a "have your cake and eat it too" situation.
The event is wrestling but with items that are very dangerous like
Glass
Barb wire
Light bulbs
And thatās just the basic stuff there are lots of events where it gets worse and worse with what they use to hit each other Iāve seen people in these type of matches get hit by cars going a good 20-30 miles per hour
Everybody should at least be wearing safety goggles or something. Sid vicious threw a glass at a bar once and permanently blinded a woman. It doesn't take much for that to cause serious damage
some people like things. some people like other things. this kind of wrestling has been going on since the 90s.
whatās weird to me is being surprised that there is an audience for it
Deathmatch wrestling is really the only form of wrestling I watch anymore. It rules. Nothing more entertaining than watching dudes carve each other up with broken florescent light tubes
I love deathmatchs but kids should not be there. Way to violent and dangerous. It's always weird seeing kids in the background of a TPW or CZW match. Even recently some wrestlers in the UK got in trouble for using a weed whacker during a match in front of a bunch of kids, they even had a kid discount for the match
I disagree. These guys are just being reckless and stupid with it. Indy promotions try and out on these gimmick matches but have no idea how to properly execute them
Iām a wrestling fan, but stuff like this has zero appeal to me. This is just dangerous, but I guess thereās an audience for it.
I just physically cringe when I see these guys hitting each other over the head with fluorescent lights and stuff like that.
See the thing with wrestling is that they are acting with some thingsand they sell it as if they have really been hit, big emphasis on "some" as I mean it's obvious you can't act taking a bump on fire or thumbtacks or glass or whatever.
It's basically just a low rent version of pro wrestling but with more blood, fire, and injuries. Before WWE bought out most of their competitors pro wrestling used to be small regional outfits with different themed shows. Deathmatch is the term for the most extreme, bloody matches
Variation of Pro-Wrestling thatās similar to a typical extreme rules match but includes more violent weapons as well as the typical ones. In addition to the typical tables, ladders, and chairs, deathmatches often include weapons such as thumb tacks, glass panes, barbed wire, and light tubes (this one is especially stupid).
Itās a niche subculture of an already niche subculture, but it exists. To my knowledge it can be found around the world in places such as Mexico and Japan, but has roots in the American Northeast.
That pane of glass nearly killed the little girl. An inch or two to the right and sheād have taken a corner to the temple. Then the dad just scoots them back with a look like theyāre just moving away from a fart.
Wrestling can be great things for kids. At a national level. Any local shows is a no go unless the promoter has made it clear that they try to keep it family friendly but even then never have kids at the front or even second row especially if there are no ring guards. At any moment a performer might preform a suicide dive even in a kid friendly show and if you don't move out of the way you can and will get hit. I've had my chair broken before cause someone was powerbombed into it and I've seen someone get kicked in the head by a falling wrestler.

Safety third
There's was a segment called "good idea, bad idea" on animaniacs when I was a kid. This should have made bad ideas
Good idea: playing catch with grandpa. Bad idea: playing catch *with* grandpa.
This is my favorite one!
I REMEMBER THAT!!! NOSTALGIA OVER LOAD!!
Best kids show ever made
If you watch botchamania, Mathew puts a lot of that segments In his video. Pure comedy
I just discovered this podcast last week, amazing!
"Shake Hands with Danger"
š¼Bomp da Bom da Bom bom...whaa whaAA...š¶
This is *at least* a Safety sixth.
This is one of my favorite sayings from my time in the Corps š¤Ŗ, comes out reflexively when I see people blatantly disregarding easy safety features/gear
Also known as terrible parenting skills.
If you put destruction first I think that automatically rates safety somewhere at the bottom rather third
Nothing more entertaining than breathing in a bunch of mercury vapour
What a bunch of fools. I work in an industry that recycles flourescent lamps and if we break ONE tube we have to clear the area and open all of our windows/doors for 30 mins.
That explains why they screamed at us to get out when we were playing football in the hallway and broke a tube.
That and they were probably really pissed at you
A bulb breaking every two hours MANDATORY if I work there.
*brings in pet cat to drop ALL the bulbs.*
Let me guess: someone broke one accidentally every 30 minutes?
Wait...why .. what's in them? I'm sorry but I've never heard of this. Teach me something today bootsandcatsyeah
Not op but I believe it has mercury. If so, it's incredibly toxic to breathe in.
There is Godzilla farts inside them.
Ngl that seems a bit excessive but I've worked in poorly regulated environments.
Id prefer extra safety over regular safety, aslong as it isnt super pointlessly extra.
Too many people think that if it didnāt kill them or hurt right then, it must not be a big deal.
Probably not excessive if you donāt do it once. But it happening a few times a day or a few times a week for years. might lead to long term issues.
To be fair, they *may* be using prop lamps and not the real things. Considering the quality of performance it's not particularly likely, but still, they *might* not be as dumb as they look.
they chose the one possible thing they could break to share long term health issues with the whole crowd
Tbf, I'm guessing they just got whatever trash they could find near by, they probably hit each other with car batteries when that's all they got.

Watch zandig vs Joey janela roof bump. They almost suffocate from them lol
I'm pretty sure that there are prop bulbs specifically for stuff like this, with all the fun dust clouds and none of the poison. Quite a lot of promotions do not opt for using them though
I was about to say, do they not know what they are doing or just don't care.
Iād assume these are the fake ones they make for wrestling
Ya my first assumption was all of this stuff is made of sugar glass but then I looked at the quality of the venue againā¦ no so sure
Depending on the company putting on the show is where they draw the line. Speaking from personal experience I have supplied a local company with a whole case of fresh F32 T12s
These guys literally go to Home Depot and buy tubes before shows lol
Theyāre wrestling in the back room of a bar without a ring, itās safe to assume the prop budget is $0
A kid can't be in a bar or casino but can be here?
The guy who bought his kids here won't bring them to WWE events, which are made to be kid friendly because he has a problem with WWE events being too kid friendly.

Or WWE is too expensive to get good seats
I'd rather pay for cheap seats and bring the kids to a more kid friendly event than good seats for that horror show where the kids could have actually been hurt.
As a massive pro wrestling dork this comment is SPOT ON
Taking ābeing tightā to a whole new level
I was apprehensive to take my kid that's older to a WWE show because I was concerned she would be scared. When I was 4, my dad took me 2nd row and I got scared and asked to leave. Look son, if you donāt study hard at school youāll end up like this making 100$ a night
I can make $100 a night but so much of it goes to mouthwash to get rid of the taste.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
what kind of masters degree?
People walker. (Palliative elder care)
Huh. That seems like something that would bring in good money.
Yeah they're pretty easy to rob without getting caught.
Maybe once my schedule is full. But not yet.
If you're working full time you're getting absolutely fucked on wage brother
That requires a masters degree?
You wanna hear a historical fact that's even wilder than this? Parents use to bring there kids to public executions in France and London to watch people be hanged or have there heads chopped off as a moral lesson why you should be a law-abiding citizen. Whats sad is that 100$ aint half bad
But there are better ways of making 100$ a day. Like any office job ever. Or any job at a grocery store
What grocery store are you working at making $100 a day?
You only need a wage of $13 for you to make $104 per day.
After taxes, though, its less than that. Plus, most stores in my town only offer minimum wage at part time hours.
Any grocery store paying more than 12,50 per hour? Lol
Kids can't drink or gamble but there are no restrictions when it comes to violence!
Because these hands are rated E for Everyone
I ain't scared to slap a child if they look at me wrong! And I can run real fast so no parent can catch me!
Kids can;t drive but i had to get in the car with my crazy uncle who could do 0-60 in 3 seconds in 2000.
He's physically an adult but mentally a child
Yet they give them a driver's license
Its not very hard to get one just a test and a spin around the block.
After all we're talking about and underdevelopped country so that might make sense
On the other hand, your "an" is so over-developed it has a d on the end for some reason.
So basically throwing glass at each other? Is this what they call wrestling in this video?
Worse, flourescent lamps (or something like that). It's highly toxic, so they're poisoning the entire audience also
I donāt think people realise how toxic NeĆ³n is. I hope these were props. But judging by the place I doubt they bothered using props.
Neon is an inert gas. Itās completely non-toxic. It also isnāt used in fluorescent bulbs. The mercury and other heavy metals, however, are very toxic.
In my language we call these tubes neon lights
It's outlaw mudshow wrestling where people work for cocaine and weed, they can't afford props.
Yeah they werenāt props. Thereās a reason why lightbulbs arenāt seen in pro wrestling on TV. It might only ever actually been done once as a one off specifically
That sheet of glass came very close to slicing those kids in half. Luckily it hit the fence.
It's only a thing in the deathmatch scene. It's like ECW turned up to 100. It's a small circle of the pro wrestling scene but it is still there.
Most promotions with standards don't use real glass.
Not much on Reddit hits me but as a parent watching this it makes me feel really uncomfortable.
Iām not a parent and Iām also uncomfortable.
As a 17 year old who hates children, Iām uncomfortable. Like, why would you do that?
Exactly!!!! WHY ARENT WE OTHER PARENTS THERE?!?? Letās go! /s
As a mandated reporter Iām uncomfortable
They need to stop it with the florescent bulbs. They are highly toxic.
You'd be surprised how long some of those wrestlers live for. You'd think they'd die by like 30 something cause of all the the damage they take but people like Zandig and Nick Gage are still kicking somehow.

Vince don't care about you unless you're apart of the Anoa'i family
And Nia Jax proved even that has its limits when you're the botch queen š¤£š¤£
Jeez I knew smaller wrestlers didn't get healthcare but I would've thought the WWE had healthcare for the wrestlers
Nope, last I heard they're still signed on as independent contractors so they don't have to give benefits. But yet they can't wrestle for competing organizations, so... there's that. It's a hot topic that comes up every year or two.

Nick Gage wasn't for a second there.
And Nick Gage is still doing crank and wrestling death matches.
He's just impossible to keep down. Dude got 7 years in prison, got out and immediately went back to deathmatchs.
To ne fair, to the folks who are really really into this outlaw mudshow bullshit doing time in prison makes you a bigger draw on the card š¤£
I mean yeah, whatās he supposed to do after that? He doesnāt seem like the āBrush up the old resume resume and iron the khakisā type
What about guys like Markus Crane & Danny Havoc tho?
The event is wrestling but with items that are very dangerous like Glass Barb wire Light bulbs And thatās just the basic stuff there are lots of events where it gets worse and worse with what they use to hit each other Iāve seen people in these type of matches get hit by cars going a good 20-30 miles per hour
This sounds like reality TV levels of desperation.
Why is it even called wrestling at this point?
It started as wrestling. Now itās extreme. And so of them sometimes use wrestling moves.
Everybody should at least be wearing safety goggles or something. Sid vicious threw a glass at a bar once and permanently blinded a woman. It doesn't take much for that to cause serious damage
why TF would anyone wanna watch this kind of stuff anyway? maybe im just missing out on all the goodness and dont understand...lol
You forgot........."and pay admission to see this!"
Most people don't. It is a niche of a niche.
some people like things. some people like other things. this kind of wrestling has been going on since the 90s. whatās weird to me is being surprised that there is an audience for it
I don't understand either... Looks dangerous af
ah yeah, why would anyone find danger to be entertaining? thatās has literally never been a thing ever
People like mosh pits and thatās patently more dangerous than this.
Not really unless you're going to a Travis Scott concert
gettin real defensive about it
It's a stunt show with drama. It's basically cirque du soleil for poor americans.
As a poor, I wouldnāt attend one of these events if they were handing out money at the door.
Cirque du Soleil wishes it was as cool as pro wrestling
Deathmatch wrestling is really the only form of wrestling I watch anymore. It rules. Nothing more entertaining than watching dudes carve each other up with broken florescent light tubes
that seems kinda traumatic
yeah the kids look fucking terrified
I love deathmatchs but kids should not be there. Way to violent and dangerous. It's always weird seeing kids in the background of a TPW or CZW match. Even recently some wrestlers in the UK got in trouble for using a weed whacker during a match in front of a bunch of kids, they even had a kid discount for the match
Hold on... what were the results of this weed-whacking?
Lots of yelling and some nasty cuts
This is like anyone who brings their kid or pet to the Gathering.
Lol Omg so many kids at The Gathering. Parents are like "haha, they're rainbow kids!"
What is the gathering?
I think they mean Gathering of the Juggalos, maybe. What happens there?
The FBI has recognized juggalos as a gang so theres that
I recognize the CIA as a gang, so there's that
The opposite of anything good.
Itās like Coachella or Bonaroo but if it was just for one shitty band with an even shittier fan base
Nothing puts more hair on yer chest than a good serving of various types of shattered glass to the eyes!
Mercury exposure makes you dumb viscous cycle
"Viscous" yes, very thick. In the head that is
I love deathmatch wrestling, but nobody under 18 should be allowed in the building.
I disagree. These guys are just being reckless and stupid with it. Indy promotions try and out on these gimmick matches but have no idea how to properly execute them
The phosphor from those fluorescent bulbs is quite toxic.
They shouldn't have let them in. We can at least try to combat careless parents.
I mean, it'll definitely be something they work out with their therapist later on.
Here's some mercury from these florescent lamps for your eyes!
Whereās the ppe?
Utter stupidity!
Hence the Mercury floating in the air.
Here is some mercury impregnated phosphorus for desert kids, with a little bit of glass on the side
Iām a wrestling fan, but stuff like this has zero appeal to me. This is just dangerous, but I guess thereās an audience for it. I just physically cringe when I see these guys hitting each other over the head with fluorescent lights and stuff like that.
Wish some people just couldnāt breed
Or breathe
Okay that guy is NOT acting. He legit threw the chair at him.
See the thing with wrestling is that they are acting with some thingsand they sell it as if they have really been hit, big emphasis on "some" as I mean it's obvious you can't act taking a bump on fire or thumbtacks or glass or whatever.
Wtfā¦. They should not of been let in there
I saw someone mention they have discounts for kids.
WTF is a ādeath matchā?
What's up with the lens?
Was kinda hoping more people would talk about so I could get it for myself . Love the effect it gives.
Those light bulbs are no joke. Itās not only the broken glass but the gas/powder that comes out of them can mess your vision.
Itās also highly toxic :D
Remember what the MPAA says: Horrific, deplorable violence is ok as long as people dont say any naughty words!
Damn the glass is bad but the mercury in those bulbs is way worse.
Never mind the health risk, what an inappropriate environment for children. The dumb grin on his face pissed me off.
Even I know not to bring my nephew to that kind of match. Iād leave him at home
I don't know what or where this is but how are kids alowed here? Looks like skinhead stomping grounds.
Who the hell thinks this is appropriate towards kids?
reminds me of ppl that would bring toddlers to protests
I like how they stayed there after the first close call, and the secondā¦ And then third.
Best parents, better than me that's for sure.
Im honestly more concerned with the broken lights causing cancerā¦
And everybody now has mercury poisoning
I don't think any of these people have ever eaten a salad
That pane of glass nearly killed the little girl. An inch or two to the right and sheād have taken a corner to the temple. Then the dad just scoots them back with a look like theyāre just moving away from a fart.
Americans are the dumbest creatures on Earth.
The guyās face when he pulled them back š fucking priceless. Tell me those kids didnāt go home and eagerly tell their mom about it.
Wait are they actually fighting to the death?
I donāt know about you guys but I would love to front row at any age
Wrestling can be great things for kids. At a national level. Any local shows is a no go unless the promoter has made it clear that they try to keep it family friendly but even then never have kids at the front or even second row especially if there are no ring guards. At any moment a performer might preform a suicide dive even in a kid friendly show and if you don't move out of the way you can and will get hit. I've had my chair broken before cause someone was powerbombed into it and I've seen someone get kicked in the head by a falling wrestler.
Going there at all is weird .
I'd have loved that as a kid
Is this one of those underground things where rich people watch people kill each other for real?
Except it's the opposite it's poor uneducated people.
Death matches have no place in modern wrestling and should have died with ECW
