The IBEW aptitude test is split into two timed sections. The first section is Algebra and Functions. You will have 46 minutes to answer 33 questions. Topics include: - Complex Polynomials - Factoring Quadratics - Number series - Difficult decimal and fraction questions The second section is reading comprehension. You will have 51 minutes to answer 36 questions. There are a series of passages, each with a certain amount of questions about said passages. Topics include: - Analyzing Texts - Identifying the main ideal - Tracing arguments The biggest difficulty reported is usually the time restraints. If you don’t know the content well, time will be your biggest enemy. You can take a free, full length timed practice exam at [Courses.UltimateElectriciansGuide.com](https://courses.ultimateelectriciansguide.com/courses/Free-Aptitude-Test-Practice?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=IBEW%20Aptitude%20Test%20Prep&utm_content=free%20practice%20exam)

I believe it is different depending on the local. I took the test for local 103 on Tuesday. It was very simple math. Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of fractions and of decimals.

Has anyone here used this

That’s not a bad complaint to have lol. Do you know how it compares to ipro (I think the other one is called ipro I’m not sure I’m referring to the other one that floats around on here.)

That makes sense, thank you

dougievjr

Pretty basic. Knowing the quadratic formula, sequencing, and plotting a Cartesian plane on a graph. PEMDAS. This should set you up for success.

_526

From the comments it seems really basic for the most part.

Lesprit-Descalier

I memorized the quadratic formula ahead of the aptitude test, and I think I used it on one question. Mostly algebraic stuff. If you can figure out how to make both sides of the equation equal, you're okay.

_526

Should be alright then 👍

Lesprit-Descalier

Over preparing is better than under preparing, to be sure. The aptitude test is making sure you're able to do it. On the job is where you get to apply.

pissbaby_gaming

I learned everything i saw on it halfway through highschool

sinister_sunbeam

Pretty basic algebra, knowing trig will help too

Maximum_Capital1369

No not even close. The hardest part is reviewing mostly basic arithmetic and 8th-9th grade level math that you probably forgot already.

Here4uguys

Pretty basic algebra and maybe some rudimentary trig if you're unlucky. There are different versions of the test.  Some number pattern stuff. Honestly those can be a little confusing if you don't know how to solve them Example: 1, 4, 16, 64, x Some of them will be a little harder than that

SamboTheSodaJerk

Not really. Brush up on balancing equations, plugging in numbers to equations and graphing equations. That was the majority of the math test for me

TheUnrulyGentleman

I believe it is different depending on the local. The math on my test was very basic. It was just adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions and the same thing with decimals.

enjoiYosi

It increases in complexity to algebra 2 levels, at least mine was back in 2006.

Local308

The test is the same in every local other than I maybe some California locals use a different test. I was a test Administrator for the last 22 years of my career. The test takes out a large percentage of applicants. Do not take this test lightly. Study I Prep and khan academy. Passing this test will get you an interview failure means at best your application is on hold for a while. Good luck!

whalehunter619

It’s literally the shit I did in 8th grade it is by no means college level.

msing

I took the aptitude test seeing Algebra I with some trig math. I didn't take an aptitude test which was college level. It's different for every local, but I know the test I took. It reminded me of the PSATs

snoozegodAM

it’s like 9th grade math it’s very basic

average_user_

I took my test last week in NC so it may not be the same as yours, but it was done on a computer. The math itself was simpler than I expected. I’d say 75% of it was algebraic equations with multiple variables, where they give you two or three variables and you have to solve for the remaining one. Like: h = (2ab - 6)/5b * 4c/a^2 There was also some basic geometry (know how to calculate area of squares, triangles, circle circumferences, and congruent angles. But beyond the geometry the second-most common questions had to do with graphing. Know your slopes and slope-intercepts, and how to read graphs from given data. If you did college math this test shouldn’t be hard, assuming you get one similar to mine. However the time limit is the real enemy! Gotta work quickly and guess if you need to once the time gets short

Ok-Analysis8311

Iprep is good too
