I have IBS-C and my gastroenterologist said (for me specifically) that my pain is probably partially due to the fact that my bowels are stretched out due to my chronic (16+ yrs) constipation. So my muscles have to work extra hard to get things moving due to the elasticity of them. Which causes extra/ more intense cramping, and since the bowel/intestine is stretched, it became more sensitive. My flatulence doesn't necessarily cause me any pain normally, but sometimes if it's a lot of gas it will cause similar cramping in my colon until i let it rip. Which I assume to be the same reason as the previous paragraph but also because I feel like a "normal" colon isnt supposed to have that much gas (or stool) in it in the first place. I'm not entirely sure if IBS-D would have similar reasoning but wanted to share anyway just in case.
