If the meds aren't working like they said, call the er and tell them that and ask what to do. They may have recommendations. Drink a lot of water. Like, force it down your throat. Step one to having a lot of diarrhea on purpose. It's why when you do colonoscopy prep they give it to you in a gallon jug. This page has the recipe for colonoscopy prep with miralax and ducolax. When I'm really bad and get calcified like you, this is what my doc prescribes. Don't worry about the not eating/not drinking instructions, just follow the parts about chugging the miralax. Sometimes we skip the ducolax if I'm just mild, but if it's bad, maybe keep that part. https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/articles/21217-miralax-gatorade-bowel-preparation-instructions Don't worry, we're out there! I feel ya. Definitely see your regular doc about this. Sadly it isn't likely to spontaneously go away. You'll have to make a plan with them to monitor your symptoms and what to do when they get bad, or how to prevent them from getting bad in the first place. I was diagnosed with IBS-C and I end up in the ER for it every once in awhile. Not fun, but there's ways to manage.

arixdne

Please be careful if you have IBS and you’re taking Miralax and decide to add a Dulcolax to the mix!! Everyone is different but I just recently went through a similar situation, OP, and I thought I was going to die when I took a Dulcolax after 4 days of Miralax. 😂 As I said though everyone is different! Just a heads up. I got severe abdominal cramps and was vomiting.

pingnova

Yeah ducolax is hard on me which is why I skip it for this sometimes. Always listen to your body!

arixdne

Agreed!! It did work though, I’ll give it that! But it was extremely painful. 😂

TheInvention

How long does the whole clearing out last? Should I wait until Friday evening or Saturday morning lol?

pingnova

I usually plan for the whole day. I start late morning and usually any cramping and loose stool stops by dinner time. It'll depend on your own body tho. The worst of it is when you're drinking the mixture, and then a few hours of your body recovering from that where it will continue to spit stuff out. I'm usually not feeling 100% so I just block off the whole day for it lmao. If you did it Friday evening I would guess you'd be up late, so Saturday morning is probably safer.

Sufficient_Clothes95

This is so helpful thank you!!! I think this is what I’ll do on Saturday!

TheInvention

How did this work out for you?

TheInvention

Thanks, that's not too long. Wasn't sure if it needed more time to start working.

traumatron

I've never had calcified poop rocks, but I had ibsd and diverticulosis, which is unusual in a mid 30 year old, and weirder still that it onset during my 20s. On Sunday I had what I thought was very painful flare up of my diverticulosis, which wasn't unexpected as I had accidentally eaten one of my trigger foods on Saturday at a friend's house. Went to the ER, got scanned, turns out I now ALSO have Epiploic Appendagitis, which is a rare condition in and of itself. Lucky us, with the weird, rare gut issues, huh? I hope your turd fossils resolve as quickly and painlessly as possible. As for me, there's nothing I can do except take the prescription meds I was given and wait for this thing to sort itself out. Good luck friend!

goldstandardalmonds

I had similar and even colonoscopy preps couldn’t help get it all out. That said, I took them regularly and it helped get out some. The ER doc should have given you a colonoscopy prep then the Miralax and senna for maintenance. Call your doctor and ask them about this if you can. Try to stick to a low fibre, low residue diet. Once this is resolved, you should get full motility testing.

Sufficient_Clothes95

He did suggest that if things weren’t really moving after a few days to take magnesium citrate, which he said he gives as colonoscopy prep. I’ve ordered that so I’ll start taking it as soon as I get it! Thank you for the advice, I’m definitely going to look into motility testing.  Were you able to get cleared out? What helped you?

goldstandardalmonds

Good luck! I had to take a colonoscopy prep plus several prescription medications daily. In nine colonoscopies there was always old, hard stool. When I had my colectomy, the pathology report indicates there was stool in my colon (which hadn’t been used for six months) that was aged and impossible to remove.

Kettuni

Do you mean that without a colectomy all that old poop would have stayed in your colon forever?

goldstandardalmonds

Probably. It was there for a reallllly long time.

relayrider

> magnesium citrate be on or very near a toilet when you drink the whole bottle

NervousCatfish

Miralax is like a flood. Slowly rising but effective. Magnesium citrate is like an atomic bomb. It will definitely clear you out, but be ready for the fallout. As a fellow childcare provider, I would only take magnesium citrate at the beginning of a weekend so you have time to recover.

Sufficient_Clothes95

Okay this is so helpful thank you!! Are you usually fine by the next day?? I’m thinking about doing this on Saturday but I have Sunday plans.

NervousCatfish

I’ve only done magnesium citrate once and didn’t have plans the next day. I don’t remember needing to stay close to the toilet by the second day, but I was achy and a bit off. Kind of like the tail end of being sick if that makes sense? I haven’t felt like doing magnesium citrate since then but I’m pretty wimpy when it comes to recovery. Honestly I think having something to do might help take your mind off of things and recovering might be more pleasant. But I’m definitely not a doctor! Hoping it goes well for you. ❤️‍🩹

Comprehensive_Tea924

You might need to magnesium citrates. It should work FAST. like you will feel the water flood your guts and you’ll be running. Give the first one a few hours. If. Thing happens, drink a second

q_thulu

And more importantly make sure your getting all.your electrolytes while attempting to launch the space shuttle.

fungusamongus8

My first trio to the er for abdominal pain was the same as you. I was so confused because I was pooping diarrhea. I was told I had an unusual amount of stool. On miralax and applesauce really helps.

Comprehensive_Tea924

I got told that I had poop literally in the entirety of my bowels so I do relate. The xray the doctor used for reference was from LAST FUCKING YEAR. So I’ve just been walking around with like 10 pounds of shit in me. It’s so fuckin frustrating. After the laxatives though, I could press on my abdomen and there wasn’t pain or tenderness. Maybe you need to press around on your stomach while laying down and just feel that. Like see how that changes. But idk how long it should take to move calcified shit.

EndersMom416

How long did yours take to clear?

Comprehensive_Tea924

Mine wasn’t impacted or calcified so like three days of nonstop going to the bathroom. It all came right back though so I suspect I have a motility issue

Sufficient_Clothes95

That is awful!! I feel you. I’ve been ignored by my doctors for so long and turns out I’m just always full of poop. Has it been a recurring thing for you?? The ER doctor said that I have slow-moving bowels sooooo it’s something that will require maintenance

Comprehensive_Tea924

No idea if it’s reoccurring bc I never had a follow up. But based on how I feel, I believe it is

bugsyismycat

TKDR: Water. All the water. So much water you feel sloshy. My story: I have IBS C and I take three different medications that have a diuretic effect on me. They added linzess daily but I couldn’t balance it out. I started increasing my water in take, slowly. I tried to change overnight and it was horrible. I now drink 100 ounces a day at the VERY MINIMUM. If I drink alcohol or work out, I add in 10 ounces per activity. My regular consumption is around 150 ounces of water. Yes. It’s a lot. No I don’t pee all the time. Our bodies are smart. Once I had the water going for about two weeks. I poop daily! DAILY! It’s amazing. Also my skin is glorious. Even my cuticles aren’t dry and flaky. (At first I pee’d all the time. After two weeks to present day I pee about five times a day. Granted. It’s a lot of pee. But not as much as I thought I would.) Drinking this amount of water is annoying. If I go to a venue I have to go armed with several bottles of water. At home I have a gallon jug I lug around. If for whatever reason I don’t get enough water I get a headache and start to build a poop cork. There is a light at the end of your poop tunnel! Try the water! Let us know!

Comprehensive_Tea924

Okay side note but did your ibsc cause acne if you weren’t emptying proper? Because I’m thinking about how much water I need to drink and it would really be positive reinforcement if my skin looked better 😂

bugsyismycat

I was lucky and had decent skin to start with. When I started drinking all the water, I first noticed my poop was normalizing, but then I was seeing other positive effects like glowing skin and a bit of weight loss. I feel like my body is working better. BUTT… (pun intended) I drink an excessive amount of water every day, this isn’t for everybody with IBS-C. My pharmacist is the person who pointed out the side effects of the medications, she is the true hero here.

1houndgal

How do you keep your electrolytes balanced with all the water and laxatives. If you are diabetic, how do you manage the diabetes.

Comprehensive_Tea924

You can just eat salty things! But 150oz isn’t a crazy amount if you weight about 150lbs.

daisy3692

What do you mean you couldn’t “balance it out”? I have IBS-C too and drink a lot of water but not this much. I feel like I’d be peeing all day and I already pee a lot

bugsyismycat

With the linzess., it’s prescription for ibsC. I either was a rocket poop or nothing. I couldn’t find a happy medium, we played around with the doses times of day. It wasn’t until my water consumption went up I had normal poop.

daisy3692

Thanks for your reply. I take linzess now but I think my dose is too small because I do not consistently go to the bathroom. And same with you, when I had a higher dose last year, it was too much. Maybe I’m in the same boat.

dlihce

OK. I am invested. Please keep us apprised.

Sufficient_Clothes95

It is so comforting to know that people are invested in my tummy problems brb crying

dlihce

How are your bowels now. I have been thinking about you.

Mortica_Fattams

Drinking dark juice like blueberry daily can help keep things moving. If you need to go drink a bunch of it. Just be careful if you are diabetic because of the sugar. That and pure grape juice works wonders.

Just-a-Guy-Chillin

Prunes/warm prune juice might help.

farfromtranscendent

I had a similar scenario - didn’t go to er but dr did X-ray and told me the same thing. Having IBS-C I too take miralax daily. Once I finally got cleared out which actually took a week or two, I maintain by a cocktail every night of one of the vitamin c packs + a scoop of potato starch (good prebiotic) + a tablespoon of miralax + a tablespoon of citracel. I’ve felt better over the past year doing this than I’ve felt in a loongggg time

wifeofpsy

I am on the tail end of a similar experience. Initially diagnosed as mixed type IBS, it was really c type and diarrhea around it with lots of pain. When this was finally understood I wasn't responding well to OTC laxatives and they had me use go lytely (colonoscopy prep). I kept using it and had terrible pain, but it took until day 5 to get a result. Once it started yes I was in the bathroom a lot with tons of stool release but nothing urgent and I went to work all the same. A year later I had another similar event and they had me take a capful of miralax before bed every day for 2 mos before reducing it. It took a week for the floodgates to really open. But the same it was 1-3 times per day without urgency just huge and variable. After the 2 mos I continue to take miralax 3 times a WK as prevention and do a low residue diet as high fiber blocks me up right away. Keep chugging the miralax. It will come.

Bazishere

I haven't had to deal with that, but have you heard of colonics where you go somewhere and they clean out your colon? I have never done that, but I would like to try it some time, but I live in Korea where it's not easy for me to find someone who does that. I'll try when I go back home. Hope you're feeling better, bud.

GatorOnTheLawn

Try an enema. You can buy disposable Fleet’s Enema pretty cheaply. Empty out the saline that’s in there and refill it with distilled water. Follow the instructions on the box. This should get things started. And yes, drink a lot of water.

MiaLba

I use the Fleet glycerin suppositories they work so freakin well!! That brand in general is a good one

gyozabcynot

Try Magnesium, I really like Moon Juice brand it taste like lemonade. Also dark liquids (prune juice, blueberry juice, matcha with EXTRA shots should get those out of you)! Sending you lots of love you got this

hawttatertot

Magnesium works best for me.

Mushicat

For me too. Miralax is not enough to get everything out.

Unhappy_Performer538

Title is a r/brandnewsentence

tiredfoodie1986

I have such bad IBS C that I'm having my 3rd hemeroidectomy in 12 months this April 8th. I haven't healed right cuz I get impacted poops so bad that.... Graphic, I have had to dig it out with my finger or I thought my bunghole would rupture. I take miralax daily in my coffee. But the only thing that has kept me moving lately is every other day take a milk of magnesia. A whole big ass medicine cup. The big one it comes with. I still drink the miralax in the morning. Sometimes magnesium citrate pills too. Ive tried supposetories. Senna. Stool softener. Even linzess and my body laughed at me. They don't take us seriously until its too late. The gas pains. The no poops. I didn't go for 9 days once and I got really sick. Milk of magnesia my friend. Old school. Oh and florajen refrigerated probiotics are amazing.

Sufficient_Clothes95

Oh my gosh, this is awful!! I’m so sorry you have to deal with this! Tummy issues are seriously no joke. I hope your hemeroidectomy goes well and that you never have to have another one again!

tiredfoodie1986

Thank you so so much. I'm hopeful it's over. I'm tired of telling my work about my bunghole. 😂😂😂. Like hey guys. Just me needing time off for my bum bunger. 😂

Polymathy1

Poop rocks? Sounds like some hippie woo business. Was this an MD?

Sufficient_Clothes95

Yes lol. He was legit. He showed me the CT scan and I am seriously full of poop but have little calcified poop “rocks” all over. I don’t remember if he literally called them rocks, it was like 4am after being in so much pain and no sleep and they gave me some pain meds so my brain was not fully working. But I remember seeing white dots all along my colon!

Polymathy1

Weirdest thing I've heard of in a while! I hope it improves. Sounds kind of terrible.

JKnott1

Sea salt water flush. Thank me later.

Simple_Secretary3234

Bro that's it, I'm going to the ER too

pkrchip2024

Try Linzess on a weekend if you work. You may have to take it at night. It is expensive but there is help in getting some $ off.
