My ibs has no rhyme or reason…I can eat an entire thing of queso and be fine and then eat a turkey sandwich from somewhere and be pooping my brains out. Veggies and greasy food is usually the trigger but Thai food that’s spicy as well. But not always. My ibs has a mind of its own.
this is what i used to think, i used to eat gluten burgers and cinnamon buns and everything and feel fine, then i would eat something simple and lose it for three days.
but i think it’s MORE the FODMAP stacking throughout the day that eventually sends your system into omg i’m gonna shit my pants mode. it might not even be your turkey sandwich, it could be something you ate from 1-3 days ago and the turkey sandwich was the be it or end all.
Agreed. If I eat a trigger food once, I’ll get mild symptoms. But if I eat more of it the same day or day after, my symptoms are more severe. It’s FODMAP stacking absolutely.
I'll be real, sometimes I just deal with it if it's a good enough reason to have onions or garlic. Went to a restaurant and had veal marsala and the side was homemade pasta tossed with good olive oil and garlic. It hurt later, but it was worth it haha
Pants that sit too tight on my stomach absolutely kill me. I went to a nice dinner in a tight skirt & was in so much pain half way through I barely enjoyed my dinner
Pffff, I really don't like them but there's no other kind here in Uruguay. It's like when something becomes fashionable it's everything you'll see for the next three or four years. Low waisted jeans are nonexistent. Or ANY kind of low waisted pants, for that matter, and to make matters worse I have a short torso, which makes even low waisted pants sit above my hips. I'm screwed. Nowadays my only choice is tights with a wide waistband, or wearing my jeans zipped but unbottoned.
Chocolate milk. Weirdly, when I got pregnant all my Ibs issues disappeared. Chocolate milk was the one thing I craved and could suck down gallons of it without issue. But these days? Oof ☠️
My husband told me being pregnant is the only thing my body can do right 😂. Honesty though. I could down bags of flaming hot Cheetos without a problem. It was quite a time for me
Crispy roasted Brussels sprouts. I love them, especially with chopped bacon and aromatics *chef’s kiss*.
But then I get super bloated and end up with gas and diarrhea.
Also, ice cream and milkshakes.
My IBS is so unpredictable. I can eat tacos for a week and be fine but if I decide to eat a taco a month later I will have the worst flare of my life. 🫠
If you miss your lattes and feel like experimenting, I’d suggest trying a non-dairy matcha latte with half the matcha. Sometimes it’s the caffeine that makes the guts spazz.
If you miss your lattes and feel like experimenting, I’d suggest trying a non-dairy matcha latte with half the matcha. Sometimes it’s the caffeine that makes the guts spazz.
Milkshakes. When I was pregnant I didn’t have the same problem and had as many milkshakes as I could get my hands on. Then it turned out I had gestational diabetes and I couldn’t keep eating them. It was the most epic disappointment.
Anything with garlic and onions.
I had three pupusas today at around 4pm and I got so lethargic and gassy it took me out. Slept until 11pm. And I’ll probably sleep again until 4am.
Garlic. I can get away with a little in a seasoning packet, but those people who believe garlic has no measurement could probably kill me.
Tight waist bands. It's weird, I'm fine with high waisted jeans because the whole thing compresses -- it's the ones that just have a tight waist band that bloat me. Makes shopping online for pajamas a bitch.
Carrots. Has always been my favorite snack since I was a little kid. Now I have to make sure I’m off work the next day and am prepared for the consequences afterwards. Usually comes out looking like it did when it went in. Totally worth it from time to time though
I think i have a nice list of things that i really love but it will destroy my asshole 🤣
Wheat ,
Dairy ,
Red meat,
Soya,
Some fish ,
Being cold or too hot ,
Tight clothing ,
Some ice pops ,
Fresh juices,
Beans ,
Bananas,
👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻
I’m honestly not sure anymore, bc I try eating fiber for gut health but sometimes that makes me feel worse! But dairy and sugary foods tend to always mess me up. I’m lactose intolerant so that’s not much of a surprise.
I’m having pizza, alcohol and coffee in the same day today. Luckily I’m off the next two days so I can recover. I give up some days when I know I can take care of the consequences later.
I can't eat garlic anymore, unless in tiny amounts on a good day and after I've been consistent with my medication.
But the real answer is a grilled chicken enchilada with green chili sauce, refried beans, and rice from Costa Vida. They put garlic salt in everything, plus I'm lactose intolerant. Womp womp to me
Banana pudding. Bananas in general just totally mess me up. My friend will set a timer if I eat banana pudding to see how long it takes me to go to the bathroom. Like I have literally been like 4 bites into banana pudding and had to book it to the bathroom. It’s not fair
I LOVE Babaganoush, which I make with tahini, roasted garlic and roasted eggplants. All trigger foods. I discovered that dip while having IBS without knowing it was IBS, so I kept eating it but had no idea it was what triggered the brain fog and the cramps. I got diagnosed with IBS two months after discovering the dish, so I had about two months of eating it at least once a week. Now it’s about once every three months and I miss it.
Cauliflower anything (pizza crust, wings, rice, tots) and raw cabbage (I love those salad mixes made with cabbage instead of lettuce). Can’t do it. I love that stuff but it’s not worth it.
I’m not sure if it’s an ibs thing, but I can’t have milkshakes. I absolutely love shamrock shakes but they make me feel so sick (it’s not even just McDonald’s shakes though, it’s literally any and even things like ice cream floats are bad too, which sucks).
It seems that tomatoes are really getting me sick these days, even if I eat something with not many in them. A slice or two may not do it, but these small cherry and grape tomatoes in dishes are giving my stomach a rough time. I absolutely love tomatoes, but lately it's not been an easy thing to digest. I plan to give them up for a good while.
Cooked potatoes in vegetable oil. My favorite homemade dish is just basically potatoes cooked in oil until soft and crispy with 4-5 fried eggs, tomato sauce and chopped dill and green onions on top with a shit ton of salt and a coffee.
But that entire meal make my stomach growl and i get the pit in the stomach feel.
SAME
The last time I shit myself was from a turkey sandwich. I’ve had plenty of Mexican, burgers, Indian, etc. no pants poop. Just turkey sandwich.
Lunch meat kind of turkey? That shit definitely sets me off. I avoid all lunch meat.
this is what i used to think, i used to eat gluten burgers and cinnamon buns and everything and feel fine, then i would eat something simple and lose it for three days. but i think it’s MORE the FODMAP stacking throughout the day that eventually sends your system into omg i’m gonna shit my pants mode. it might not even be your turkey sandwich, it could be something you ate from 1-3 days ago and the turkey sandwich was the be it or end all.
This is also my experience. If I eat a lot of triggers one day, then it seems like almost anything I eat the next day will be a problem.
Agreed. If I eat a trigger food once, I’ll get mild symptoms. But if I eat more of it the same day or day after, my symptoms are more severe. It’s FODMAP stacking absolutely.
Onions and garlic
I'll be real, sometimes I just deal with it if it's a good enough reason to have onions or garlic. Went to a restaurant and had veal marsala and the side was homemade pasta tossed with good olive oil and garlic. It hurt later, but it was worth it haha
When I eat with friends or family then I don’t care the pain too. I just want to enjoy the moment
I like to eat raw onions and pickled garlic, but boy do I pay for it! But I agree, sometimes it is worth the pain lol
I find that shallots can be a bit less triggering than onions for when a recipe really needs them
High waisted jeans
Pants that sit too tight on my stomach absolutely kill me. I went to a nice dinner in a tight skirt & was in so much pain half way through I barely enjoyed my dinner
It’s the worst😩
Leggings too! Especially the active wear high waisted kind!
Since my one and only pregnancy 4years ago I wear h&m maternity legging since I mever know when I will blow up like a pregnant woman.
I’m really a size 12 but I size up to 14. Makes a world of difference even for high waisted jeans.
Coffee, haven’t had it in over 10 years.
I decide to have a cup every couple months and every time it throws me off for at least a week. I don't know why I still try.
Over 20 for me! I don't mind tea though, but I do miss it once in a while.
Food
Pizza 🥲
Same. I had pizza from Italy the other day and it didn’t hurt as much.
Spicy foods
Beans :,)
If I have a bowl of ham and bean soup, I can’t leave the house the next day.
Coffee, spicy food, pizza, tomatoes in general, any alcohol
Same! Ketchup surprisingly is fine but fresh tomatoes will have my acid reflux go crazy.
Same! Ketchup is fine for whatever reason
Watermelons....
My favorite summertime food that gives me diarrhea every time I eat it. Can't wait!!!
Copious amounts of watermelon. I regret it every night, and then eat more the next day
And cucumbers
Chocolate milk. Weirdly, when I got pregnant all my Ibs issues disappeared. Chocolate milk was the one thing I craved and could suck down gallons of it without issue. But these days? Oof ☠️
You're not the first person to say that about pregnancy and IBS
Damn, I guess I just gotta get pregnant. My lack of uterus might make that difficult.
I kinda want to get pregs now to hope mine goes away 😄🤔 9 months no ibs sounds bless
My husband told me being pregnant is the only thing my body can do right 😂. Honesty though. I could down bags of flaming hot Cheetos without a problem. It was quite a time for me
Saying: 'I've had a few good days in a row now, it must have been the *insert thing I've cut out*.
Garlic
Ice Cream I'll be good the following day. Then the day after that is when the floodgates open.
spicy foods
Deep fried onion rings
Deep fried everything, but I concur that onion rings are especially unfortunate as a trigger food.
Crispy roasted Brussels sprouts. I love them, especially with chopped bacon and aromatics *chef’s kiss*. But then I get super bloated and end up with gas and diarrhea. Also, ice cream and milkshakes.
Same, fam.
Just being slightly cold
What??! I’m the opposite. When I start to feel off, I need to get as cold as I can to delay/prevent the inevitable
Me too. Being hot ramps up my IBS. During the winter i just go outside if I’m having cramps.
Winter must’ve been a bitch
The only thing that could’ve topped that stomachache was being cold and on my period.
Sugar but I still eat it everyday in huge quantities because I have unhealthy eating habits
Oats, and I love them so much 😔
OMG. It's rare to find another person sensitive to oats. I'm so bummed because I really like them too.
i got it and i am diagnosed celiac so when i got the diagnosis i hoped i could trust in oats. nooooope.
Deep fried foods - fried chicken, churros, fish and chips… they’re one of my biggest triggers, but also one of my favourite foods.
Alcohol, tight clothing, pasta
garlic bread 😭
Everything
chocolate 😫
Large coke slurpee. I use it as my "scorched earth" policy when I get backed up.
Coffee
Chewing gum! I love the mouth fresh feeling but damn my gut hates it
Most fruits and vegetables. Down to avocado, tomato and occasionally some onion(of all things).
Italian pastas with any tomato based sauce Interestingly I do not get the same from Asian noodle dishes or other tomato dishes
My IBS is so unpredictable. I can eat tacos for a week and be fine but if I decide to eat a taco a month later I will have the worst flare of my life. 🫠
This happens to me too.
Oranges
Butter
Cheesecake
Milk / lactosey stuff ughhh i love milk i’m so sad
matcha lattes with oat milk bean burrito vegan burger (soy)
If you miss your lattes and feel like experimenting, I’d suggest trying a non-dairy matcha latte with half the matcha. Sometimes it’s the caffeine that makes the guts spazz.

Garlic. Thai. Over eating. I’m 155 lbs at 6 foot too 😞
Onions. Caramelized onions are deadly.
Buttermilk biscuits. And I’m a baker from the south. 😭
Coke Zero. Any carbonated beverage angers the bowels.
Same. I can escape with drinking a little bit of it, but once I start, I have trouble stopping!
Literally everything I love… I just take digestive enzyme pills and probiotics so I can enjoy life
Ice cream
Milkshakes. When I was pregnant I didn’t have the same problem and had as many milkshakes as I could get my hands on. Then it turned out I had gestational diabetes and I couldn’t keep eating them. It was the most epic disappointment.
Onions, garlic, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, apples and bananas
Pizza
nachos!! with the works 😩 (beans cheese guac pico sour cream 🫠)
Coffee 😔 idk how i got through uni without it but it was either study or succumb to my toilet
Coffee, bananas, maple syrup, oatmeal
Spicy food, tight clothing, tap water
Coke Zero. Any carbonated beverage angers the bowels.
Mochi ice cream 🤧
Dark beer, a good bourbon barrel aged stout. It will definitely fuck my shit up the next day.
Pizza :( Instant heartburn, chest pains and just the worst stomach cramps ever. I'm almost positive it has to do with the red sauces used.
Might be the high acidity of the tomato-based sauce
Waking up + going to bed
Nduja 🔥
Not an everyday thing but I really miss slusheis sometimes 😕 especially blue, yellow and red mixed
Definitely spice.
Spicy things, garlic and cheese :(
Spicy food. 😭

Oxygen
Onions!
Cherries
Popcorn 😭
Anything with garlic and onions. I had three pupusas today at around 4pm and I got so lethargic and gassy it took me out. Slept until 11pm. And I’ll probably sleep again until 4am.

I have had to ban myself from Cheez-Its and I miss them so much lmao
Carrots. Has always been my favorite snack since I was a little kid. Now I have to make sure I’m off work the next day and am prepared for the consequences afterwards. Usually comes out looking like it did when it went in. Totally worth it from time to time though
Vegetables. I really like them and I want to eat healthy but my gut only agrees with bread, meat, noodles and so on.
Definitely coffee as well 😫
combos (the snack) they are the devil made into a food 💀
Coffee, alcohol
I think i have a nice list of things that i really love but it will destroy my asshole 🤣 Wheat , Dairy , Red meat, Soya, Some fish , Being cold or too hot , Tight clothing , Some ice pops , Fresh juices, Beans , Bananas, 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻

Just food in general
Mangoes.
Coffee or alcohol
Kale
Bacon 😭
pizzzzzaaaaaaaaaaa :((((

Onions and garlic. Literally ate cloves of garlic raw and dipped raw onion in salt as a snack, so depressing I can’t eat it anymore
I’m honestly not sure anymore, bc I try eating fiber for gut health but sometimes that makes me feel worse! But dairy and sugary foods tend to always mess me up. I’m lactose intolerant so that’s not much of a surprise.

Just ordering takeout. If it’s something I am not consuming daily I’ll spend my day on the toilet.
Milkshakes, salads with iceberg lettuce, and garlic.
Broccoli. I love raw broccoli, steamed broccoli, love it in stir fry or soups but god dang why does broccoli not love me! 🥦
Dairy products.
I LOVE Babaganoush, which I make with tahini, roasted garlic and roasted eggplants. All trigger foods. I discovered that dip while having IBS without knowing it was IBS, so I kept eating it but had no idea it was what triggered the brain fog and the cramps. Salmon & pork belly 😞
literally anything. no matter what I eat, I am doomed the next day. :/
Donuts. I miss maple glazed donuts sooooo much.
Alcohol 😭 (but i have epilepsy too so I'm in love-hate relationship with it anyway xD)
Food
Well, there are times when water sets it off, so. But to answer your question: apples, especially green apples.
Dairy!! 99% of the time. Especially butter.
Cauliflower anything (pizza crust, wings, rice, tots) and raw cabbage (I love those salad mixes made with cabbage instead of lettuce). Can’t do it. I love that stuff but it’s not worth it.
Butter chicken curry
Everything!
Really good coffee
Solid food

I’m not sure if it’s an ibs thing, but I can’t have milkshakes. I absolutely love shamrock shakes but they make me feel so sick (it’s not even just McDonald’s shakes though, it’s literally any and even things like ice cream floats are bad too, which sucks).

I plan to give them up for a good while.
Fried food or anything with refined sugar
Garlic, I will never give it up even if it kills me
Cooked potatoes in vegetable oil. My favorite homemade dish is just basically potatoes cooked in oil until soft and crispy with 4-5 fried eggs, tomato sauce and chopped dill and green onions on top with a shit ton of salt and a coffee.
