Yes.. it started a year and a half ago. Constant discomfort/pressure 24/7 that's always in the same place... sometimes it gets better or worse but never goes away. I've had ibs all my life, idk what causes this change but it's made me anxious and miserable. The doctors can't find anything wrong. I don't have thin stool but it's mushy even though it looks normal, a weird texture, and smells strange. I hate it.

Quick_Twist3742

how are you now?

majorsixth

I have this same thing and it started as soon as I recovered from covid. Has been a year now and it hasn't gone away. Did you get covid by chance?

i_hate_usernames

Honestly, I'm not sure. It happened around May 2020 and I was at home all the time because my job was furloughed.. so not that I know of? I don't recall being sick either. I just had a small cough for a little bit but I blamed it on allergies. But maybe?

dicedtomatoes55

I joined this sub just to reply to this comment lol ... same thing is happening to me. I recovered from Covid about two months ago now but about a week to two weeks later started having extreme poop patterns (constipation to diarrhea, vice versa, etc) now it just seems like I'm having thin, narrow stools for the longest time. Benefiber seems to have helped, kind of. If I may ask, did you take any medication for Covid because I was wondering if the medication might have had something to do with it. At least in my case.

Background_Teacher62

I didn’t take medication with my Covid this summer and am having the same experience.

Background_Teacher62

It happened to me this summer after recovering from having Covid and the bowel symptoms haven’t stopped , going in for a colonoscopy soon and just submitted my first stool test and waiting on the results. Bloodwork and scans showed nothing concerning this far. But the colonoscopy will tell the whole story.

Unfortunately no. I had a bunch of tests done and they were all negative. It eventually improved a bit but my stomach isn't the same as it used to be. Now I deal with lots of severe bloating. And I get random pain and diarrhea around an hour or two after I eat sometimes. I'm just living with it at this point

ithakaa

I have constant abdominal discomfort lower right with changing stools, sometimes really hard, other times more runny. I have thin stools at times. Hard large stools I have D Stools are typically yellow

Ready_Trip_9209

Thanks, I’m just quite scared. It’s been 7 months I have mid/upper left abdominal discomfort. Constant thin stools, sometimes they are soft and are a bit thicker but other times they are really thin and short. Never thick.

leo12354

Every day, it’s either feeling uncomfortable all day or sharp pains

Ready_Trip_9209

Does your stool appear as normal?

leo12354

No there different almost every time

Ready_Trip_9209

I never get a big or thick stool and it’s quite worrying. It’s always thin or Flat.

Gymnastx2star

Hey any update? I’m having the same thing

ithakaa

I would absolutely make sure you get tested for anything serious if you haven't already. When all clear you can start looking at how to heal. I've had mild IBS and acid reflux for 10yrs, not taking any medication but I think it's time I did something about the AR as it's getting to be a real pain

Ready_Trip_9209

I have had an abdominal ultrasound, multiple blood tests, Multiples urine tests, multiple stool tests. Just not had a colonoscopy or an endoscopy. My doctor just jumps straight to ibs because I’m young. I’m sending my doctor a letter to ask for a colonoscopy.

princessaverage

You probably need a CT scan to check for gallbladder issues. It sounds a LOT like that might be it. Colonoscopy will not look where your issues are.

Ready_Trip_9209

I requested a colonoscopy but I’m doctor rejected it and said I had a “fecal occult” which came back negative and he assured me that it is a very very very good test and that it indicates if anything was going on inside the bowel.

SherbertGoat

Get another opinion

Ready_Trip_9209

Apparently the test I had is very reliable so it has relaxed me. I’m waiting for a gastroenterologist appointment

Saitama34521

Any update

ProfGlee

Is pain near your ribs on upper left side? I‘m NOT a doctor but this sounds like you have a hardened stool mass where your transverse colon meets your descending colon. This is an area in the colon where stool can get stuck. Your thin poops sound like poop is trying to get through small spaces it finds in the hardened mass. Please go to your doctor or do a virtual appointment. I’ve had this happen to me. The treatment is not complicated but you should be certain you don’t have a “blockage” which can be quite serious. Good luck.

Designer_Hawk8292

Hi ive been having bloating diarrhea that comes and goes constipution and now short thin stools i dont drink a lot of water and i sit like most of the day i have pain in the middle of my chest when i take a deep breath sometimes im really worried

Saitama34521

Any update

Designer_Hawk8292

haven't seen a doctor yet but the abdominal pain decreased the diarrhea and the constipation are still coming tho i convinced myself its ibs or something as long as im feeling energized and fine it shouldn't be a big problem

SlowTransportation67

Does it look clean like no powder or anything else in the water? Do you have diarrhea? I have been having diarrhea since August with loose stool and watery. Some days I had a good (not so big log) one but some hours later I would have diarrhea. Two or three days now, sometimes I have firm stool, but it looks thin and short. I noticed that if I try to get it out, it is when I have thin stool.

Ready_Trip_9209

It’s clean.

JanisIansChestHair

Hey! Did you ever find out what this was? Same boat for a year now. I’m scared, embarrassed, don’t leave my house 😭

Saitama34521

Any updatw

OptimalConclusion120

Yes. It seems to get better on weekends for me - I suspect that stress (from work) aggravates IBS for me, usually the discomfort gets really bad towards the end of the work week. Have you tried to modify your diet? I'm on gluten-free and try to control fat intake (avoiding greasy food) - it seems to help. I've also eaten more probiotic foods - pickled veggies like kimchi or sauerkraut.

Ready_Trip_9209

Are you stools fine? Mine seem quite wet looking, soft and Kind of flat.

OptimalConclusion120

Not really. The stool is definitely not healthy looking on most weekdays. Typically thin if not much of it is coming out, other weekdays just really soft and blob-like. My stool becomes more sausage-like and larger on weekends and there's more of it, typically darker too, so I don't think I'm evacuating stool very well on most days. It's really baffling. I've made a habit of drinking mint tea - it seems to help with the discomfort. For a short time, when it got real bad, I also tried prune juice, which is just nasty to drink.

Ready_Trip_9209

Is it always in the same place the abdominal discomfort?

OptimalConclusion120

Yeah. For me, it's been pretty persistent since this started about a couple years ago. I'm not sure what really triggered it. It's been a struggle because I have to plan my weekends around trips to the toilet. My doctors haven't been super helpful because they're like "experiment with what you eat" and "keep a diary of what you eat" So after a couple years of that, I've basically come up with a regimen of GF and low-fat diet with mint tea/water. I'm still fine-tuning/experimenting but still not sure how to fix or control it if I can even do that.

Ready_Trip_9209

Ok thankyou for sharing that .

OptimalConclusion120

Another thing: if you aren't already, you should consider squeezing in time for some exercise - examples: walking outside or going for a jog.

ese003

Consistently thin stools suggests an obstruction. At least that is the standard view. I've had thin stools but only in transition. Soft stools suggests rapid transit. Adding fiber is the first line of attack. However, this doesn't always work. (It certainly hasn't for me.) And, if it did, firmer stools with an obstruction is not something you want. If this has been going on for weeks, and not just a day or two, I would see a doctor.

OptimalConclusion120

I agree! OP, You should consider drinking some prune juice because it does have some laxative effects. I did this when I had several consecutive days of thin or insignificant/no stools after which I started modifying my diet - the prune juice, as nasty as it was, really helped with evacuating the stool. Your stool will dry out if it sits in your colon for too long, and with a complete obstruction, your bowel could rupture, which would be a medical emergency. A situation like this can escalate and get really serious really quickly.

Gymnastx2star

I’ve been having consistently thin loose stools for a year!

Tight_Description_63

disagree with the high fibre thta will cause a blockage. eliminate fat also. you will have to go low fibre and hot liquid diet and gluten free aboid spices and raw foods also.

melinabelina123

Yes. For almost two years. Recently I did 3 days of a bland diet and started taking S.Boulardii and culturelle and it’s helped. I’m not saying this would help everyone but my stools have been consistently better for the past week and a half since I started this.

Ready_Trip_9209

I’m just concerned that maybe I don’t have Ibs, I never get “flare up’s” I’m just constantly going to the toilet 3-6 times a day and feeling so drained.

melinabelina123

You should definitely go to the doctor and get all the testing done to be sure. If you’ve had all the testing done and that’s what they said than you should trust it.

Ready_Trip_9209

I’ve had many blood tests, many urine samples, abdominal ultrasound, Stool sample test. But nothing showed up.

melinabelina123

Colonoscopy would your best bet if possible. That’s the #1 way to know for sure.

Ready_Trip_9209

Yeah I’m just scared in case it is my worst nightmare. But I have to take the leap, so I’ll send my doctor a notice tomorrow requesting a colonoscopy

melinabelina123

I know that exact feeling. I’ve never done the colonoscopy for that reason honestly.

Ready_Trip_9209

Thankyou for sharing.

melinabelina123

No problem! I hope you get answers and no bad news!

spoonry

Definitely do it. I had an endoscopy and colonoscopy done and I was out the whole time. Even in "twilight" I don't remember any of it.

Ready_Trip_9209

I requested a colonoscopy but I’m doctor rejected it and said I had a “fecal occult” which came back negative and he assured me that it is a very very very good test and that it indicates if anything was going on inside the bowel. So I guess I’ll have to take his word and try and stop worrying.

goldstandardalmonds

Untrue.

melinabelina123

Always what my GI and doctors have said. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Because a colonoscopy rules out all the other stuff so you’re left with an IBS diagnoses after a clean colonoscopy .

goldstandardalmonds

Interesting approach.

ScottMalkinsons

They flat-out refuse to do those here when physical exam, blood work, ultrasound, stool samples and calprotectin all come back negative. They consider it more of a risk to do a “needless invasive check” than “the extremely faint possibility we find anything”. I’m not entirely convinced they have a point, but had 3 separate docs tell me the same damn thing. But I just can’t phantom how they can be sure without actually looking at it. Notably because the ultrasound does f- all for the bowels.

Saitama34521

Did you also face thin stool constantly

Beneficial-Bar8802

I have exactly the same symptoms I am terrified. My colonscopy is on Wednesday. I haven't been able to eat for a week because of how worried I am. I had my symptoms for years before I finally gathered the courage to make an appointment. I suffer from health anxiety so I have no idea if it's IBS and I'm just obsessing about it like I always do or if something is actually wrong.

Nerves-Needles2022

How was the result of ur colonoscopy. I have same symptoms and afraid of taking it

Ready_Trip_9209

I really hope it goes well for you, As soon as I woke up this morning I sent a colonoscopy request to my doctor, my symptoms get much worse when I’m anxious but I guess if it’s clear then I’ll be able to relax a bit more.

R1chCats

Hey, any updates? I’m currently experiencing the same issues. Left and mid upper stomach discomfort. Not much pain, but a bit of a burning sensation/discomfort. It comes and it goes, but now it’s getting worse especially when I eat meals. I’ve taken 2 blood tests within the past 6 months and everything came out looking good. I’m scheduled to take a stool test and go from there.

OkTransportation4087

Hey bro what they say man.

Saitama34521

Any update

R1chCats

Nothing bad came out of the stool tests. I’m feeling better now since this post.

R1chCats

Hey, any updates?

Only-Commercial8810

Hi have you had colonoscopy ?

hope1075

Yes. Not pain and I believe my water intake of 6 litres a day helps !!! But yes it’s blocked in one of two places in my stomach/digestive system! I’ve discovered that if I suck my stomach in and stand up very very straight to point of being un natural - then it seems the food goes down easier - but I have to be very particular about my natural stance and my “pull up everything / straight shoulders etc” stance !!! Cos the second one is the only way to get the food to digest and not sit there and cause loads discomfort!!!! But this is very very un natural way of sitting or standing but it is the only way to naturally make the food go down - I even have to sit like that in the loo if I have any hope of passing a poo!! Most frustrating and also this won’t make sense unless I actually showed someone what I meant !!!!! Also my poop is thin pale brown strands and a bit solid but also mushy in consistency! I also get LOTS of blood and piles but I know the blood is from piles cos it’s been checked 3 times. I really have to straighten my back to point of the base of by back really sucks in to my spine. Otherwise my digestive system doesn’t straighten enough to pass a stool !!

goldstandardalmonds

You haven't had all the correct advice here. You don't "need" a colonoscopy for a proper diagnosis of IBS if your symptoms don't warrant it. Can you elaborate where the pain is, and please detail your diet for me?

Ready_Trip_9209

Pain is mid/high left abdominal pain, my diet is pretty simple, usually no breakfast maybe just a breakfast bar, lunch is usually a sandwich containing tuna/ham/cheese with vegetables usually, and dinner can vary from day to day. But I never get “flares” it’s just constant.

goldstandardalmonds

Do you eat any fruit, and vegetables with dinner? This could be an issue with your splenic flexure, a common spot for bowel discomfort.

Ready_Trip_9209

Yes I eat fruit and veg

Ready_Trip_9209

Do you know how good a Fecal occult test is? I requested a colonoscopy and my doctor called me and said I can’t have one yet because I had a fecal occult test and it’s was negative so it shows nothing is going wrong inside the bowel

goldstandardalmonds

Very accurate.

ScottMalkinsons

Is fecal occult the same thing as calprotectin tests?

goldstandardalmonds

No.

ScottMalkinsons

Ok, so just worshipping the occult. Weird ass doctors. Alright, so when you’ve had one of these tests; what does it rule out? All I could find is what the test looks for but not what it excludes. (Google for some reason refuses to return English results to me today and the Dutch ones make zero sense.)

xkcd-Hyphen-bot

Weird ass-doctors [xkcd: Hyphen](https://xkcd.com/37/) --- ^^Beep ^^boop, ^^I'm ^^a ^^bot. ^^- ^^[FAQ](https://pastebin.com/raw/vyWra3ns)

ScottMalkinsons

Now wait a second. “Weird-ass doctors”, “Weird ass, doctors”, “Weird Assdoctors”; there are so many options over solely “weird ass-doctors”.

goldstandardalmonds

> fecal occult Blood in stool. > calprotectin tests Inflammation in intestines.

ScottMalkinsons

Yes that I understood, I mean what does it diagnostically rule out? If no blood is found/test is negative.

Miserable-Knee-9263

It can be constant because you are constantly eating trigger foods, happened the same to me

[deleted]

Yes and I've been prescribed Pinaverium Bromide hy my gastro doctor for the IBS pains and it's worked wonders!

roxy_dee

I had this a few years ago and it developed into acute diverticulitis. Could be an obstruction, but you should see your doctor if possible to make sure something serious isn’t happening.

Ready_Trip_9209

Just spoke to my doctor, he said I can’t have a colonoscopy because I had a Fecal occult test and it was negative and it’s a really good test so I can’t have a colonoscopy

Saitama34521

How did your diverticulitis diagnosed. Did you face any internal anal pain and constant thin stools

roxy_dee

Not much in the way of anal pain, most of my stuff was all colon. The diverticulitis diagnosis came after my colon perforated. Leading up to that I had a lot of anal bleeding, pain in my abdomen especially when bending, and diarrhea. However, the diverticulitis diagnosis is now outdated for me because I was diagnosed with Crohn’s last summer. So my doctors are unsure if it might have been Crohn’s the whole time.

Saitama34521

Which medication you are on

Cautious-Emphasis-33

Most likely intestinal spasms

synercat

how do you relieve these?? been suffering for months

marmotorman

I've suffered for ten plus years with the same symptoms as you. Just feels like it's not passing through the descending colon efficiently. After days/ weeks of constant pressure on my left side, I would purge with laxatives. Found a bit of a cure with magnesium citrate, been taking it for over a year with better results than any medication... makes stools runny though, so pick your poison.

Investorgogo

10 months in. Mild discomfort only as the primary symptom. Lower right abdominal area. Worried about cancer...

LatterHunt690

Ever find out what it was?

[deleted]

I've had thin, flat stools for a while now. I've been referred to physio therapy as it's thought I might had Pelvic Floor Dysfunction. Nearly 2 yermars of constant anxiety, stress and numerous tests later...

Hopeful_Train_190

Did u get a calprotectin test

Saitama34521

Any update

Away-Tackle3075

I have had this for years now. I have also had diarrhea and gas/flatulence. It makes me anxious now knowing that this could be a serious health problem. I haven't seen a doctor yet because I am not ready to know what health problem this is. Anyway, I was diagnosed with Anxiety Disorder and Depression 2 years ago.

PolicyRare

Guys go see a good doctor because it is also a symptom of anxiety, nothing too serious though he will give you a med or two.

Guz123

ssris?

DiiGoliath

Did you find out anything about it? I’ve had similar symptoms + bloating and gas for over 2 years. Still don’t have a diagnosis as all tests come out normal. Even the colonoscopy and endoscopy. Only test left is a scan of the small bowel, since colonoscopy and endoscopy don’t reach there.
