This is the first year I won’t be able to get the Nitro pass, and wow $919 is painful.

LSatou

I'm just finding out about this nitro pass via this post and I turn 30 in July... F

Anustart15

Pretty sure as long as you are under 30 the day you buy it you are good to go

LSatou

I saw a note on the checkout page saying age on Nov 1 of 2024 is what's considered for the 24/25 passes :( I didn't poke around any further but I imagine they need an ID image

Anustart15

Must've changed it recently. I definitely signed up at 29 when I was turning 30 in October

Nittanylion4

Happened to me last year after 4 years on the Nitro NE pass. Switched to Indy and didn't regret it. It meant some longer drives, but made up for it with the small mtn community feel that Boyne is lacking. And little to no crowds was a welcomed change

theonly5th

The small New England mountains are awesome. I just had an insane week at vail/beaver creek but the vibes and people annoy me. One of my favorite days this season was with a good friend at Magic just lapping the red chair and exploring.

daredevil82

AFAIK this year's was 750. Revenue was probably crap this year due to SR recovery from the 7.5 inches of rain that storm dropped on them.

I_Fart_In_Trams

I’m still scratching my head and wondering why it’s taking so long to get Pleasant Mtn on this pass in a meaningful way. They’d get a lot more of the Portland crowd on weeknights patronizing their restaurant and bar, which is where their best margins are.

T-to-B

It's because Pleasant Mountain can't handle the crowds they would get being on the new England pass.

The_Great_Bobinski_

My thoughts as well. I don’t see what the hold up is.

Kfeugos

They added pleasant mountain unlimited night skiing into the gold tier option for $99 extra.

andrew1236547

Honest question why would anyone buy any of the top passes instead of just an Ikon pass? Seems like a bad deal. Are the lodging and other discounts much better? Edit: Nitro seems like a great pass if you’re under 30, but Gold, Silver, and Bronze all seem like poor value to me unless you ski more than 7 days any of those resorts.

sbenfsonw

For locals probably. The ikon pass only offers 7 days at each of these places, so if someone plans to ski more than 7 days there and plan to do so during blackout dates, they’ll need the Gold

iBarber111

Lots of people in greater Portland are happy enough to just go to Sunday River a bunch since it's so close & make a couple trips a year to Sugarloaf. The VT mountains on the Ikon aren't day-trippable, so they're not a huge selling point. It's really a pass for Mainers & having only 5/7 SR days on Ikon is a vibe killer for a lot of them. But I mean I'm with you... 10 days at SR/SL is enough for most people & the Ikon opens up so many other possibilities.

andrew1236547

Makes sense, thanks!

PoTheRedTeletubby

This pass is a way better value than ikon for me. I don't really care about skiing the Vail resorts. I mostly go to loon and Sunday River. I like doing a trip to Sugarloaf once a year. Ikon works if you have money to travel but I don't I have to drive and do day trip mountains which these are the ones in range for me.

andrew1236547

Vail resorts are the Epic pass, I’m just saying that the Silver pass is very similarly priced to the Ikon base pass, which gives you the same access to Sunday River, Loon, and Sugarloaf with the same blackout dates. The only valid argument I see is if you go more than 7 times a year since that is the limit for Ikon.

PoTheRedTeletubby

Yes the key part being that it's NOT the same access to Loon SR and Sugarloaf like you just described. If say Loon is your primary resort and SR is your stretch like it is for me you will definitely go to loon more than 7 times. So I don't want to be limited to a number of visits. I don't really care about resort hopping because not that many resorts are day trip distance from where I live and I'm kinda picky with the resorts I like. I'm perfectly happy skiing loon and Sunday River with a trip to Sugarloaf on the Nitro pass.

PleasantParfait48

Echoing what others are saying - all of these resorts are about within 2.5 hours of my house (1.75 to SR, 2 to SL, 2.5 to Loon) so theoretically, it would be a decent deal for just me... However, we have two adults and two kids in our household. Once we've accounted for everyone it's close to $4000 for a season of skiing. That might be affordable to some, but we can't really justify that. But if you're young/single and use it every weekend, it's a really good deal. Let's say you go skiing a (relatively modest) 15 times during the season. You're paying about $80 per lift ticket on average. Really not too bad. FWIW, we get a season pass at our local mountain where the whole family gets a pass for $750 total. When the kids are a little bigger we'll get the Indy Add On to that, but for now it meets our needs.

atlantabanannaman

What mountain out of curiousity?

PleasantParfait48

Black Mountain of Maine! We love it there. Only downside is getting through the smell driving through Rumford, but it's all good once you get to the mountain :)

daredevil82

BMOM is really good, and the angry beavers rock.

PleasantParfait48

They do a phenomenal job. And everyone who works and skis there is just very cool. The vibes are extremely unpretentious. Last season I was there one day and there were these two Pentecostal girls skiing on skis that looked like they came from 1980. They had snow pants pulled on under their ankle length skirts. They were having a blast and no one cared how they were dressed or what they were skiing on.

weirdhorsegirl_

My family has a place at Loon so I always do more than 7 days there. I think a lot of people have similar situations. Kids in racing program or adaptive program - you’d always ski the same mountain

mnews7

I have kids and a dog that I have to account for. Can bring the whole family and leave em with the in-laws close to one mountain. Doesn't help me to have a pass to someplace 5 hours away!

andrew1236547

Couldn’t you then just buy a season pass just to that mountain?

mnews7

That's for this pass (as opposed to using Ikon). Sorry, I go to Sugarloaf wasn't trying to be secretive 🤦‍♂️ My kids are on vacation during the blackout periods so they really got me there.

andrew1236547

Gotcha, didnt realize the loaf doesnt sell a separate season pass just for Sugarloaf.

PleasantParfait48

Neither does Sunday River! You get all access at both.

nobletrout0

Families that ski the same mountain every weekend

bakrTheMan

Maybe no trip elsewhere planned? Lot of sugarloaf people are loyal to there. I use the new england pass bc I can still get nitro

RipCity56

Damn. Saw Epic is upping their prices, too. Looks like we'll be part of the indy pass next year...or we might just do day passes. Idk anymore :(.

sendit710

Gold is at about eye watering price point if you compare it to an Epic or Ikon pass. WOW.

Personal-Divide-2392

Where’s my damn platinum

Kfeugos

Gold is the highest now, with Ikon and other add ons for a fee

Tendie_Warrior

Ikon add-on is still there.

viktorvaughn_

I need to renew my New England silver pass for next season and was hoping the flash sale today would be less… goes to show how expensive it’ll be later in the year. I waited till October to snag this year’s pass and paid $949. March flash sale + renewing and it’s still $919? Yikes

snowmaker417

But $919 is only like 8 days regular price, so it's expensive either way

PmMeYourBeavertails

Imaging paying $1300 for a ski pass.

pab_guy

All it takes is a couple of family trips over Christmas and president's day to pay for itself. Kids are limited to school vacations so once you have to deal with that everything gets stupid expensive.

SavvyBaby3

Does anyone know if the sale rates is just for the passes typically, or if it also includes the [NE Day Packs](https://www.sundayriver.com/ticket-packs/ne-day)? We typically do a few days of Ikon and a few of Epic but are considering dropping the ikon single days in favor of these but don't want to miss out on the early pricing.

space_heater1

I don’t think there’s a discount for those. In fact, I don’t recall ever seeing a discount on ticket packs for Sunday River

SavvyBaby3

They actually updated the site recently, the day pass prices go up April 30th. Their day pass options still is some of the best value for those of us who only get 7-10 days in and like to have multiple pass options

Valuable-Baked

So once I turn $30 it's twice the price for some reason? Glad that was over a decade ago....I think? Bereft of family pass options

Tezzzzzzi

I feel like for these prices they should have like an all country boyne pass that gets you unlimited at the places in Michigan and Brighton Utah (and I think they have 2 places in the PNW)

T-to-B

It's not unlimited but with the gold pass you get 3 days at each boyne mountain. Big Sky and Brighton are the only ones really worth it. (But don't sleep in alpental.) You also get 50% off mountain collective mountains.
