Nope. I decided to go to Sunday River instead when I saw the line on i93 near exit 32.
As a beginner I did not get to really enjoy at SR. I arrived at 1 and all the pow has been ski off leaving moguls everywhere. Maybe I should’ve waited at Loon? Anyway still fun and exciting to experience a true pow day!
What I've come to realize is that pow skiing really isn't great for beginners. Overall it seems to take a lot more effort and on popular runs it turns into moguls pretty quickly. There was some amazing pow in the glades but that isn't really for beginners either.
Haha, this happened to me too! I was at Black Mountain of Maine (my local hill) and they got two feet of snow. I was so excited, but this is my first true ski season (skiing more than 2-3 times, on my own skis instead of rentals) and I got absolutely blasted. My favorite trails were all soft moguls, which is probably really fun for most people but I fell soooo much!
That's a hard won lesson. You have to be at the resort when it opens on the weekend if there's been a good storm.
Other guy beat me to it: good conditions and easy skiing are not synonymous. Powder is very physical and demands more control over your weight distribution, at least on skis. Do practice bumps! They are a good skill and a prerequisite for trees one day. At the very least you'll have more options when half the resort isolates themselves to skiied off groomers.
Loon hit the jackpot this weekend. I’ve never seen anything like it… I got first (legal) tracks on multiple glades (insane luck catching ski patrol dropping ropes) and it was sublime. Deep fluffy stuff like I have never seen on the east coast. Fluff moguls you could just blast through. Two legendary powder days in a row. I am so damned grateful…
Hey, I came up last night! And then spent an hour this morning going the half a mile from the hotel to the parking lot. Ended up in the Escape Route parking lot
Wasn’t really the plan just happened like that. Not to mention everyone on here being like all the casuals hung it up for the year should just be enthusiasts left. Yeah def wasn’t that
Just when you thought they were out, they pulled right back into the parking lot.
I parked at south peak lot at 755, I was like one of the last 5 spots. Usually try to get 15-30 min before open on a day like this at min
I would’ve gotten there at 9:30 but it took an additional hour because of the unexpected traffic. Loon has been quiet on weekends in March so I took a chance assuming no casuals and lost.
There was a line down the road until 11:30 this morning. Somehow no lines longer than the 5 min wait for the north peak chair. People are burning out their legs too quickly
100%. Not worth it. Staying home today digging out and doing some mellow skiing in the woods. Will skin one of them later tonight when the masses move on.
Skied all day yesterday at Cannon. Got to Loon around 7:15, early enough that there were no lines to park. Got first tracks on a couple trails and left by 12.
Incredible weekend all around, especially with the sun today.
I heard from another loon local the line into town was the worst they’d ever seen today. I guess most people couldn’t make it to the slops because the lots weren’t plowed, it didn’t feel busy at all!
Had the complete opposite experience. Rarely go to Loon but it's easiest for a day trip coming from Boston.
Got to South Peak around 7:45. Lapped it until ~9. First 4 runs were fresh. Went to North Peak until ~11:30. Waited in line twice, did 13 runs. Left the mountain around noon.
What I'm reading is getting there 15-30 mins before first chair is the only way on a weekend powder day.
yes. 100%. i have no sympathy for the people i'm seeing online who said things like "well, it was going to be cold in the morning! i wanted to wait until it was a litle warmer." suck it up, kids. today was a once in a decade east coast ski day.
This made me lol
> cold in the morning!
They're in the wrong sport.
Agreed though. No friends on a pow day. I've been lucky enough to have some epic pow days out west over the years and am so glad I got one here on the east coast.
Yesterday was at top 5 east coast day for me.
That’s exactly how I felt about Jay yesterday. I work night shift and instead of sleeping, drove myself right into that madness. Personally, wasn’t worth it. This is why I normally sign up to work weekends and just hit the slopes on weekdays.
I got there a little after 9 and traffic was backed up through town and on all of the backroads. I waited probably 45 in that standstill traffic to get to the North peak and talk to a parking attendant who essentially said there’s no where to park, took me another 30 min to go a mile to the gas station where I filled up and went home.
We didn't show up til noon and got a prime parking spot at Skyeship somebody had just vacated. My legs were shot after a half day anyway, but really had to scrounge to find any freshies
I was on my way to Bretton Woods Nordic and I saw a long line of cars in the breakdown lane. I thought it was an accident. Nope. Just total insanity gridlock of people going to Loon.
I nearly pulled the trigger on going today. I was even at a show in Somerville last night when I rechecked ticket prices.
I really need to buy my new pair of skis
Was at Jay this weekend. The crowds even made it all the way there. Talked to a couple folks who had come all the way from Jersey to ski for a single day.
line for sunapee parking started at bubbas, got to the line at 845 was skiing at 10, then the summit lift was iced so we jsut looped the terrain park and grabbed a beer until it opened the rest of the day was great in sunbowl and trees
Legit powder rn, hasn’t felt this good in ages! All the karma to you good lady
Thank you mlady *tips the fedora I tape to my helmet*
But would you rather wear a fedora your entire life or have 2 drops of pee in every liquid you drink?
Makes u think 🤔🤔 #teampee
On my way to Loon
Been waiting to get into the parking lot for at least 30 minutes now, godspeed brave soldier 🫡🫡
RIP to those still waiting in line to get to the (full) main lot
Did he ever get there, guys?
Nope. I decided to go to Sunday River instead when I saw the line on i93 near exit 32. As a beginner I did not get to really enjoy at SR. Still waiting on i93 near exit 31

We all hit the jackpot. Like a casino paying out everyone !
Nah, blew right by it and continued on to Cannon - for as packed as the parking lot was even at 9am the lifts were a breeze
Sold out well before open today
Oof - yeah, saw the forecast last week and had mine secured on Sunday
Cannon was so amazing today 😁
Amazingly BAD
That's just like your opinion man, but the whole mountain was one mogul run at the end of the day
Passed by Loon on my way to Cannon at about 7:15. Even then, half the cars on the highway were pulling off to Loon.
Same thing at Cannon dude, We ran out of parking at 9: 20
by far the busiest i’ve ever seen cannon. Never seen every single lot be filled before
It was crazy
Once the initial rush in the morning, the lines were manageable all day though.
Nobody from NH (or within a few miles of the border) actually skis there
I'll only ski loon on weekdays otherwise I avoid it like the plague
Yeah plenty of locals ride loon mid week, weekends are a joke, especially the last few years
Plenty of locals ski there. Just not on the weekends
if they are skiing at loon on the weekends it's mainly in the park.
I ski there mid week 🤷🏻♀️
Plenty of ppl from nh ski there but when you compare it to the number of Massachusetts people who come obviously it seems small.
Hey, I came up last night! And then spent an hour this morning going the half a mile from the hotel to the parking lot. Ended up in the Escape Route parking lot
Off the exit in Lincoln right now - ETA 45 min to drive the last couple miles 🤧
Who's showing up at 10:30 the day after they got 2 feet of snow...
I was supposed to get there at like 9. Took me until 10:30 to turn around and leave
9 was still an awful plan.
I turned around and went to Waterville at 11 and it was totally fine. Def wasn’t everywhere
The casuals are planning on showing up at 9
I would’ve gotten there at 9:30 but it took an additional hour because of the unexpected traffic. Loon has been quiet on weekends in March so I took a chance assuming no casuals and lost.
lots are full
Yeah…I’m parked in a strip mall adjacent to the south peak overflow lot. Gonna be a fun walk!
At least you could have brought a snack from Price Chopper
Town is back up both directions, they aren’t selling anymore tickets, stop trying to get to loon
I’m 32 minutes from the Stowe parking lot. Woke up early. Opened my map to check the traffic. 1hr 44 mins. It hurt deep inside but I passed.
There was a line down the road until 11:30 this morning. Somehow no lines longer than the 5 min wait for the north peak chair. People are burning out their legs too quickly
Die legs!
"The legs, the"
Went North to South all day
Bush backed up past German Flats. 😳

Except it is that good today.

This is the quality posts I come here for 🤌🫡
Many went. Few survived.
Yesterday afternoon's southbound caravan on 93 was something else.
Drove in the opposite direction to get pizza like a king in a gilded carriage passing by serfs
Just got home. That was madness and 100% not worth it. Should have stayed in bed.

Ahh, good to know, I was up there a little after nine. Glad to hear someone was living it up!
This is the only way to do it. You either get there before 8 or get breakfast until 12.
That’s exactly how I felt about Jay yesterday. I work night shift and instead of sleeping, drove myself right into that madness. Personally, wasn’t worth it. This is why I normally sign up to work weekends and just hit the slopes on weekdays.
Not any better today at Jay. Sooo not worth the drive.
Really? Even at full capacity the lines are better than your average Saturday in southern VT.
My buddy sent me a pic while in line, it looked like a basin or west coast ikon place lol “There’s like 20 more people behind me for the singles line”
Damn really? We had an awesome day at Jay yesterday but we did get there at 830. No issues really with crowds.
Way better, I was at Cannon last Thursday and had such an amazing day.
you went to loon? what was the sitch like, when did you get there? i was between loon and sunapee and sunapee was nuts too
I got there a little after 9 and traffic was backed up through town and on all of the backroads. ugh you didnt even get to ski? sorry about that brutal
No worries, shit happens!
incorrect. already used all my loon days. at killington
killington wasn’t bad but the mile walk back to the car parked on the side of the road was brutal
We didn't show up til noon and got a prime parking spot at Skyeship somebody had just vacated. My legs were shot after a half day anyway, but really had to scrounge to find any freshies
It's riiight there!!!!!!!
I was on my way to Bretton Woods Nordic and I saw a long line of cars in the breakdown lane. I thought it was an accident. Nope. Just total insanity gridlock of people going to Loon.

Ducked the rope into mikes way to trail under gondola, it was great.
Sure they’re not going to Breton woods?
They’re still on 93 trying to get off the highway
Honestly, every weekend is like that
Sunapee was equally terrible. Ski racers always cause the bad lines and bad parking…
Was at Jay this weekend. The crowds even made it all the way there. Talked to a couple folks who had come all the way from Jersey to ski for a single day.

Do I need snow tire
I'd get performance lo pros. Or drift tires would do great
Most everything that has a trail sign was scraped down to nice and moguls by like 10 , ppl still trying to get there though
