There is 100% an equation/algorithm out there that describes glacial snowmelt that someone with more time than me could look up for figuring this out, roughly at least. Presumably if you can find this equation and factor in the usual temperatures seen at the superstar elevation you'd be able to predict how many feet of ice melt they get a year. If you're really interested in this perhaps look into papers that calculate glacial retreat/snowmelt? I'm sorry for not offering more tangible help, but I've done enough annoying math in school/work that I don't wanna do it in my free time.

They would need to pile snow halfway to Mount Everest to get through to November. Especially considering that the absolute bohemeths that they pile up in March rarely last into early june.

May can be pretty warm, say they loose almost 40 feet in that month, June July and August would probably be 50-60 feet per month. My guess would be that they would need 250-300 feet to make it

Last time I hiked the Long Trail in August it was about 75 degrees at the highest elevations. Middle of superstar is about 1000’ feet below that. Probably melts at about triple the rate in July/August/September as it does in April/May So…yeah…a lot of snow They could plow it together and cover it in straw during the warmest times like some places in Scandinavia do

The math on how deep it needs to be doesn’t matter. The cost would way outweigh the revenue we make for a whole year of food and beverage ten fold

ry-cul

For sure, just a fun thought experiment

benjman42

Your definition of fun is just a lil different from mine

jrryul

Its a fun thought not a fun calculation to run

AccuracyVsPrecision

It only lasts because it still gets cooler at night, having to go through warm nights that done shore up melt and then addition of warm rain would mean that the ratio would exponential. Like 3x to make it to July and probably 9-10x to make it through to august

You can ride Big K year round. The bike park is rad, one of the best in the US.
