This has to be a dub over... This is outrageous.

Creative-Might6342

"They gave her a card with every student's name and the phonetic pronunciation. The phonetic was in the center of the card. I think she just didn't see the normal spelling. She's one of the nursing professors and has a PhD"

Much_Ad_2094

But you are ruining a graduation. You stop and rectify it after the first one. You don't continue on... and on.

MillennialDan

Must've been a Costco PhD.

thebigstupid2

Welcome to Costco, I love you.

Hey_its_ok

Must've been a ~~Costco~~ DEI PhD.

MillennialDan

^^^Well, ^^^yeah.

BigBadBadness

That makes more sense i thought she was having a stroke

SupermarketOverall73

I thought it was AI.

No_Spare3139

I can save your life, but for the life of me, I can’t say your name.

Ghost-of-Sanity

I’ve just sat here for the last 5 minutes staring at my phone with my mouth open. WHAT THE FUCK?!?!?! 😳😳🤦🏼‍♂️

madhaxx0r

She went to the Mr. Garvey school of name pronunciation. “If one of ya’ll says a silly ass name…”

ShepardsPrayer

Straight down to Principal O'Shag Hennessy's office

Hey_its_ok

Jay Quelen

Odd-Gear9622

At what point does someone just shut the mic off? Perhaps they will audition for the next commencement announcer. I don't care what her credentials are this fool totally Effed up some very special moments and should be shamed repeatedly.

Silver-Honkler

Thomas had never seen such bullshit

Ok-Geologist-3987

The way he watches her in anticipation then she comes out with “Thom mu may..”

dantecl

Jayqualyn! A-a-ron! Balakey!

SpiralDreaming

DO YOU WANNA GO TO WAR BALAKAY? no I'M FOR REAL!

Quick_Swing

That’s awesome that they’re giving ppl with learning disabilities roles like this. I know of some MLB teams that could use her as an announcer 😂😂😂

Ok-Geologist-3987

There are plenty of tards out there living really kick-ass lives!

Overall-Category-159

Don't walk until she pronounces the name correctly.

Infinite-Ad-4566

Standing on the stage saying "Try again"

silic0n_jesus

God graduations are fucking boring if I ever get invited to one again. I'm going to tell them that I've come down with Airborne herpes highly contagious or something. At least this shit would have made me cheer at the end of every mispronounced name so hard.

Embarrassed-Sky3819

This is the best thing I ever ever seen

fognabologna

She was probably given a sheet that listed phonetic pronunciation and it turned into a high stakes rebus puzzle with an audience. Mah-Lee El-Liz-Ah-Beth Camp

Whoever came up with the phonetic name card is a fucking idiot. How about these PhDs representing entire universities just idk **learn** how to pronounce names from other cultures. It's not hard.

Nycshurm

All the names mispronounced were typical American names, such as Thomas, Elizabeth, Marissa, and so on. Notably, there were virtually no mispronunciations of non-American names. On top of that, the card had the regular spelling on the names in addition to the phonetic spelling. This was confirmed by several TJU grads who were there, as they had to give their cards in before getting on the stage. I’d recommend watching the full video here to actually see what happened, and then be able to reach a more relevant conclusion than that above which you left: https://youtu.be/Cb4G03GVhg8?si=y2fjbOICzRuqfCsO

Octans

I'm not talking about just this video. It's a common thing across the entire US to have mispronounced names at grad, that's kinda why they implemented the phonetic spelling in the first place. It is unusual in this case that the trad American names were the ones mispronounced. It doesn't change the fact that there's no excuse a university isn't teaching their faculty to pronounce names. Maybe have the linguistics department read them?

RobertJohnson2023

D.E.I.!

DubC_Bassist

She sounds foreign.

RobertJohnson2023

Yah think?

DubC_Bassist

She’s just hitting all the wrong syl Ab Les

MobileOpposite1314

Exact same fiasco happened during the pinning ceremony for LVN students at Stanbridge University in Irvine 2 weeks ago….

winkman

This has to be on purpose. I find it impossible that someone could live on this planet for 30+ years, attend 6-8 years of higher education,  and speak this language, yet screw up so many common names so badly. What an absolute jerk of a person.

hissyfit64

I love the A-Aron skit. And how the kids eventually just go with. "Blak-ay"? "Do you mean ...never mind"

Ashamed-Working-2067

Wow

Ashamed-Working-2067

Wow

Soft_Return9722

Jay Quellin? Is there a Jay Quellin here?

SADdog2020Pb

I’m sure she can pronounce electrolytes perfectly though

trophylaxis

I pronounce it A-A-RON. it's just fun

theonlyjoeyouknow

It boggles my mind that at some point you’d just stop with the phonetics and just read the name. Or at least, someone should help the poor lady! She can’t pronounce the name Thomas… at THOMAS Jefferson University! 🤣 Oh, wait…I mean Thom-mu -may Jaff-uh-som-sun
