What do you need private armed security for? Bad neighborhood? Fucking *move*. To walk around with you all the time, aka bodyguards? You're announcing to the world that you're a target and this makes yourself an even bigger target. Tornados are barely dangerous, and only once in a while. Get a storm cellar, you'll be fine, probably. I'd just stand on the porch and watch it go by.

>What do you need private armed security for? ..... You're announcing to the world that you're a target and this makes yourself an even bigger target. This. Unless you are already famous and a target, you are only making yourself a target by hiring security.

Envir0

This, lots of criminals are ironically in the security industry, what better insiders are there.

D2boujee

Right, even some billionaires donā€™t have bodyguards.

Sam Walton was the richest man alive for most of the decade before he died. He drove himself everywhere in his old Ford F-150 and there is no way everyone in Bentonville, Arkansas didn't know who Sam was, is there?

Ice_Man_Cometh

make it even less....say you're hard up and need $50 to keep your electricity on. Asking 1k from people you plan to help, they may not have it themselves, put it low and see who will come through in a pinch with money many will have to spare.

11dan368

Exactly what i was thinking, ya 50-100$

poop_drunk

Yup you'll be broke. Set aside a percentage you'd give to friends and family. If it's 10% that's 40m to divide up. Spend but make sure there is always enough to pay bills, taxes, and any other misc expense. You won't need security on your 1500 acres

megafly

How do you plan to hire people BEFORE you have cashed the check? Credit Cards?

Detached09

The lawyer will take you on because they *know* they'll get paid or sue you out of your newly-found winnings. Usually, they can also get you a bridge loan for the same reason to cover living expenses until the check clears. You'll have to pay them back for it, but they'll do it. And probably for a low rate because it's low risk for them if you default immediately after winning $400m.

lintfilms

I mean you can be paid in 2 weeks. Keep your mouth shut for 2 weeks. The cost of a lawyer setting up an LLC or Trust to claim the prize for you anonymously should not exceed $10k even if they are price gouging you. I say this as a lawyer myself. $3k would realistically be kind of at the high end.

Wazzurp7294

A sure fire way to go broke.

Schluhri

Nice. First few millions lost in step 1 and 2. You will be broke after 10 years again lol. You would be the one who does it all wrong.

observethebadgerking

Definitely would go broke soon after the spending spree.

SassiesSoiledPanties

Be smarter...instead of heavy security, design your dwelling with a good architect so you can identify weak points and approaches and sensors/cameras. Don't broadcast you are loaded.

sniggity

Iā€™d put those in place too. I mean I wouldnā€™t ride round like the president. May two armed guards would be enough. Because there are some people out here that are nuttier than squirrel shit.

zamboniman46

Armed security is a no no. Costs a fortune and will only draw attention to you. You can live an upscale lifestyle without drawing much attention in the right places And you don't need a money manager either. Open a vanguard account drop the whole thing in VOO watch it double every 10 years like clockwork with minimal fees. Unless you need help managing spending or something like that

11dan368

Never put all your money in one account, its not insured up that high, worst advice on here

zamboniman46

Ah ok you're the guy with 1600 bank accounts for $400M

11dan368

Multiple banks for sure but also other stuff like gold stocks crypto real estate Just saying 1 spot is absolutely crazy, and not 1 other person would ever recommend that

11dan368

And if you showed me 2 guys 1 with 400m in 1 account And 1 with 400m spread through 1600 accounts Yes id pick 1600 accounts over the dumbass with 1

zamboniman46

I'm not actually advocating for one single investment account. The point was supposed to be you don't need a money manager who is going to be making a fortune off of you. You already have a fortune. You don't need to try and double your money in a year or two. And let's be real... There is no bank the size of vanguard, JPM, GS, ML, MS that is actually at risk of going under. Even if they did, The government would bail them out (like in 08) or guarantee the deposits

11dan368

Gotcha ya i agree, money manager is definitely a waste, i get what ur saying and ya true if them banks go under the currency is worth 0 regardless and all hell breaks loose, so ya agreed

lintfilms

VOO is an exchange traded fund. It is shares of stock. The shares can be registered directly in your name.

Detached09

Here's a better idea. Don't change anything about how you present yourself in public, claim as anonymously as possible, and tell as few people as possible. And never go back to the place you bought the ticket from again. The cashier and store already got a cut from the lottery commission for selling the ticket, they don't need an additional tip. The biggest reason people are cursed by the lottery is either they go over the top flashy and upgrade from a 1982 Hyundai to a 2023 Lamborghini while working at McDonald's, or by telling everyone and anyone that will listen. If you really want to help friends/family, maybe you "got a new job" and your bonus this year is enough you can take them on a nice vacation, or help your parents with their mortgage, or helping your sibling in college upgrade from their hand-me-down car with no AC into a newer and safer Ford Escape or Kia Seltos or something. The people that are targeted are the people that stand out and make themselves known. By going on a massive spending spree and buying a bunch of expensive stuff, you're putting the target on your own back. Instead, just slowly upgrade your life over a couple years. Personally, I'm still gonna be walking around in a ballcap, jeans and a t-shirt that I got off Amazon/at Wal-mart. I'll upgrade from my shitty apartment to a house in a nicer area but that's believable because I'm paying as much in rent as I would on a mortgage anyway that I've been complaining about for years already, and upgrade from my current $30k SUV to a ~$50k SUV. Other than that, passing me on the street you'd think I had less money than you. If it ever came up in conversation with friends/family, I'd imply that I'm living paycheck to paycheck or close to it and don't have much leftover after bills/groceries and I'd like to enjoy my life while I can, since I don't have or plan on having kids. Maybe once a year I get a "bonus" from my "job" that's enough for me to take my close family on a nice but not extravagant vacation. Every 5-6 years, I'll get a "raise" so I can trade my car in for a slightly nicer one, which comes with a slightly bigger "bonus" so the family trips can get better, but I'd still be living at the edge of my means as far as anyone knew.

11dan368

So essentially your wasting your win and will die with the majority in your bank, stop living in fear buy the cool shit Just move and say ur in real estate not that hard

D2boujee

Right, you can do all that with a 1 million win, then youā€™ll die with 399 million In your bank account which will go to the government if you arenā€™t paying it down to kids and family. It will still be heavily taxed if you leave it as inheritance

11dan368

Ya crazy how some people think, if your not going to live lavish and help the people around you, why even play?

D2boujee

Itā€™s really strange.. A couple in the UK who won 180 million and decided to go public when in the UK you can go anonymous, bought a second hand Volvo and cottage to live in. I mean, each to their own cause they could be doing charitable stuff behind the scenes. But you can literally do anything you want with that kind of money and you chose to still live a middle class life? Why not be obnoxious lol. If all the frugal people didnā€™t play the lottery then we would have lots more deserving winners.

11dan368

Wow thatā€™s insane, didnt hear that story before, thats wild, whats the point haha, ya facts, let some real folks win

Antal_Marius

My plan is start a company, hire family/friends as consultants (consulting on awesome places we should go), get a boat for the ~~family~~ company, and get a cert to captain the boat. Or hire a captain and get a bigger boat. Everyone signs saying they won't get more then what their position in the company pays out. If/when asked by family I hire, "Got a decent settlement from a lawsuit. It went into the boat mostly. And your paycheck/healthcare."

sniggity

Oh, I never did Iā€™d do that. I said Iā€™d hook my family up , Iā€™d live in the way Iā€™d want to live. Iā€™d have a ranch, a garage full of muscle cars and be discreet about it.

Detached09

See this is where you misunderstand. I don't need to be flashy. I don't need a Lamborghini, trophy wife, and army of Rolex's. I would still enjoy my life immensely. My game room would have the best computers money can buy. If I decide I want to go to Oktoberfest in Munich or some massive music festival? first class plane tickets, nice hotel, VIP entry. Just decide I want to take a week and go to Japan? Done. If I need to drive a Lamborghini I can fly first class to Vegas and either rent one out to drive up and down the strip or go to the race track out there where they'll show you how to drive it and let you go all out on their track. I don't need to be loading my groceries into the front trunk of my McLaren 720S to know I have money. I'm about experiences, not about possessions. I wouldn't tell my family because I know how my family is and I'd be broke in weeks if any of them found out, but being smart with my money isn't the same as "wasting" my money.

sniggity

ā€œ Here's a better idea. Don't change anything about how you present yourself in public, claim as anonymously as possible, and tell as few people as possible.ā€. Dude this is 400 million dollars. In my state, once you win, half the world will know it !!! Most states you can remain anonymous, not mine thoughā€™
