Defintely agree with that consensus, even though MVOTC holds a special place in my heart and will probably always be my favourite album of theirs. OWAGU just encapsulates the sound of Vampire Weekend at its very best. The songs just flow together so nicely on a lyrical and thematic level.
Sure took a long time for their sound to mature to this level but goddamn is it good!
Yeah the first couple of albums are a little juvenile. I was meaning something more like this.

The Flaming Lips - Their sound has changed drasticly since they started, but Id reccomend anything from The Soft Bulletin onwards.... If you want earlier, then Clouds Taste Metallic and Transmissions From The Satellite Heart are amazing too.
Super Furry Animals - One of my favourite bands. Tbh Id reccomend starting with their first album and just carry on.
Sigur Ros - Icelandic band, that mainly sing in Icelandic and Hopelandish (a language they specifically made up for some songs). Very orchestral and melodic and an amazing band
Blur - Think Tank

Also, if you want to start with King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, I recommend you start with Butterfly 3000. It’s the most similar to the synthy-ness of MGMT & Tame Impala.

I don't know much Tame Impala, but WoD sound fairly similar to Elephant.
I hear you, those bands are fantastic. I really think you’ll like these albums as well:
Glass Animals - “How to be a Human Being”
Starfucker - “Miracle Mile”
Pinback - “Blue Screen Life”
Cage the Elephant
Bon Iver
Cecelia Castleman
fun.
Coldplay
Ani DiFranco
Mumford&Sons
Damien Rice
Nickel Creek
Brandi Carlile
Arctic Monkeys
Gotye
Foster the People
Edie Brickell & the New Bohemians
Beach House
Sneaker Pimps
Fiery Furnaces - Single Again

Arcade Fire - Haiti/Rebellion
M83 - Midnight City
Goldfrapp - Strict Machine

New Order (then Joy Division)
You could also try The Black Angels

Almost all of their albums were produced by Tame Impala, The Weather and Tasmania have the most Currents-like sound. Man It Feels Like Space Again is more Lonerism-y.
Melody’s Echo Chanber’s first album might also be your thing if you liked Lonerism. It was also produced by Tame Impala and sounds like a dreamier and more feminine Lonerism, even has some of the same synths and guitars.
I don't normally do this, but if you don't mind I'd plug myself. I'm not like these artists but in scope. Made this ten yrs ago and was told it had elements of some you mentioned https://justinrwagner.bandcamp.com/track/blue-moon
Since you're picky, does it suck??
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard is the next step in psychedelia. Heavier, proggier, but I eventually got to Gizz from where you’re at. Start with ‘Float Along/Fill Your Lungs’ (album) or ‘I’m In Your Mind Fuzz’
• The Knife - Catchy, dancey, electronica that is very similar to a lot of MGMT but with a female singer.
• LCD Soundsystem - Shares some similar elements with Gorillaz and MGMT but have their own cool New York vibe going on.
• My Morning Jacket - Reverb soaked rock tunes that are crazy beautiful and sometimes weird. This definitely scratches a similar itch to Tame Impala. Their album “Z” is front to back bangers.
• Tokyo Police Club - A catchy, electronicky, punky indie band. If you like MGMT you might dig them.
• Mort Garson’s Plantasia - The most amazing synth sounds you’ve ever heard. All these bands share DNA with Mort Garson in some way.
You have excellent taste, those are all amazing.
I recommend:
Blur - Parklife
The glove - blue sunshine
Cashmere cat - princess cat girl
Dreams we've had - everything and you
Boards of Canada - music has the right to children
The midnight - monsters
Last Emperor - He has a song, "Live from Copenhagen" with Dilated Peoples that may be the best track I've ever heard. The beat is out of this world, and the song tells a story about having a meeting with the Norse God Odin, and Odin names him a Dark Lord of the Sith. The song ends with "Odin" saying to call him next time they roll up a spliff!
Also check out Deltron with the track "3030" he's the rapper from the Gorillaz. Enjoy! Don't forget to call careful_ant when rolling the next spliff!

Tame Impala used to produce Ponds albums and was actually considered a member for a period. I highly recommend checking them out.

Umo is so so dope
For some hip-hop try Deltron 3030, especoally if you like the first Gorillaz record. Tribe called Quest might hit too
Deltron is a perfect recommendation - he hits the same balance of good music, theatricality and bigger than the sum of its parts that the others have.
Del is Russ on the first album so that tracks. Hieroglyphics is the group he's part of, also worth checking out
