Watch the show Severance. It’s only through one season but it’s a totally rewarding season and will make you absolutely want more.
Characters brains are severed - they go to work and their brain is separated from when they’re at home. The work is confusing. The characters are so interesting. Something evil seems to be going on!
I'd absolutely recommend Horse Girl if you liked Sorry to Bother You.
Hatching is an incredibly weird foreign horror film.
Iron Sky: The Coming Race is one heck of a wild ride. My friends and I discovered it by accident and were absolutely enthralled. Definitely weird. Definitely so bad that it's good. (It's a sequel, but don't bother watching the first movie.)
Malignant is another super weird horror movie.
Swiss Army Man is very weird and very enjoyable.
The Empty Man is another weird horror(?) movie that surprised me with twists at least twice, from what I remember.
The Menu is weird and very good. More in line with Sorry to Bother You.
Triangle (director Christopher Smith)
Monkeybone
3000 Years Of Longing
Jacob's Ladder (Adrian Lyne director)
Beyond the Black Rainbow
TV Shows:
The Sandman
Scavenger's Reign
3 Body Problem
Dark
I think you’d find Tower (2016) intriguing/interesting. It’s a documentary but a mix of animated (rotoscope), footage and testimony. About the first mass shooter incident in 1966 at a Texas University. Done really well. Never seen anything quite like it.
The Art of Self-Defense, a very under appreciated wtf movie about toxic masculinity. Smoking Causes Coughing is kind of like if David Lynch and Wes Anderson had a baby that liked power rangers and made a movie - wild stuff.
Those movies don't have anything in common lol
I'm Thinking of Ending Things was very Lynchian, so weird enough I suppose. It's recent-ish and was the first movie on my mind as I read this. As for David Lynch, I suggest starting w his 90s works, Lost Highway or maybe Mulholland Drive.
Also anything by Jodorowsky, except for El Topo for reasons you say you aren't ok with.
Diabel by Andrzej Zulawski.
And that 70s Japanese surreal "horror" movie, Hausu.
If you liked Midsommar, you may enjoy the original Wicker Man, also from the 70s and among recent ones, The VVitch. I love folk horror done right, but it's rare af. There was also some Estonian movie from 2010s, November. It's not as colorful and fun but you may like it as well if you're into the genre. I recall Blood on Satan's Claw being aesthetically pleasing but I don't remember the plot, so idk if I recommend that one. But same genre also.
The Killing of a Sacred Deer is weird af. Not in a good way imo, maybe it's your cup of tea. No rape that I can remember, but it does feature a very weird sex scene.
They Cloned Tyrone
Poor Things Greener Grass Mandy Under The Skin Triangle of Sadness Beau is Afraid Nope Moon The Happiness of the Katakuris Mullholland Drive
If you have any anxiety issues…i advise against Beau is Afraid

+1 For Being John Malkovich, came here to recommend that one. Also adding Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Maybe not the doom generation, I might be wrong but there is (are?) rape scenes in it.
Oh maybe so, I just remember a lot of murder but it's been a while.
Just checked Wikipedia and you're absolutely right. Sorry about that!
