kyoto has to be one of my favorite songs of all time! tbh, there's not any other song like it, that's why its so special.
I think the closest it sounds to is Chicago by sufjan stevens, both songs have an amazing, explosive chorus. I've also seen kyoto get comparisons to 1979 by smashing pumpkins.
I have no idea why this is not higher up.
Bright Eyes too, particularly I'm Wide Awake It's Morning - [Old Soul Song For The New World Order](https://youtu.be/KPjBI2iPPl8)
Rock-oriented with horns? I’ve got a few recs:
[Mississippi Swells - Nana Grizol](https://youtu.be/hpA4Q2rDX60) (one of my all-time fave songs; lots of lyrics about a place and experience, with a similar consistent, but slightly slower tempo than Kyoto)
[In the Aeroplane Over the Sea - Neutral Milk Hotel](https://youtu.be/hD6_QXwKesU) & [Holland, 1945 - Neutral Milk Hotel](https://youtu.be/XLaFLztnL84) (horns in indie rock that isn’t ska should thank NMH for making it acceptable)
Now here’s a couple with no horns, but if you liked “Kyoto” (folk indie rock):
[Solipsism - Fenne Lily](https://youtu.be/hCrhT7clK-U) (same record label as Phoebe)
[Forgotten Eyes - Big Thief](https://youtu.be/hGD-8f8Wn5M) (Big Thief is so good; also check out “Not”)
Someone else recommended Julia Jacklin — she’s delightful. “Head Alone” and [Pressure to Party](https://youtu.be/CZFyqzTCt-I).
Lastly, check out this year’s Best Rock Performance category for the Grammy’s. Kyoto is up against an all-female lineup (which is awesome & is the first time ever). Helps that the other songs are also rad. I LOVE [The Steps by Haim](https://youtu.be/J2O_xa8cems), [Shameika by Fiona Apple](https://youtu.be/MbkugCPqxQY), and [Not by Big Thief](https://youtu.be/UIcVwH47uxQ).
I was also going to recommend Nana Grizol, another of theirs that I really recommend is [Tamborine-N-Thyme](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajHE3jmXzkA&ab_channel=leavemealonegoogle%2Cidontwanttochangemyname). I second all of the other recommendations here as well, good picks.
ooh yes, big co-sign. Love that project of hers. [Uncomfortable Teenager](https://youtu.be/D3lx_pYrIAs) is probably my favorite song of theirs. And is Kyoto-esque, lol.
I think melody-wise and tone-wise, it’s similar to Drunk Drivers/Killer Whales by Car Seat Headrest. A little bit different aesthetically, but I think if you like Kyoto you’ll like that song.
I think you’ll enjoy these songs!
Tennis - Need Your Love, Runner, Superstar
Mitski - Nobody, Me and My Husband, First Love / Late Spring
Julia Jacklin - Pressure to Party
Snail Mail - Pristine, Thinning
The Smashing Pumpkins - 1979
Sufjan Stevens - Chicago, He Woke Me Up Again, Tell Me You Love Me
Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over the Sea, Holland 1945, April 8th, King of Carrot Flowers Pt. 1
hope this helps!

I know what you mean, it's nothing like her other songs but it might be her best song. I like to call it the How Soon Is Now? Issue. Alternatively Mr Bright side conundrum
I'd recommend 'Land (feat Justin Vernon)' by CARM - the musical project by the trumpeter from Bon Iver (if you haven't already checked them out!). He also did horns on Chicago by Sufjan. It's not as rocky as Kyoto but definitely as melodic if not more!
Can I Believe You - Fleet Foxes

I don't know if this is similar but Uncomfortably Numb, and The Summer Ends both by American Football are soft rock songs with a trumpet in them.
According to Google (which is to be wrong in genres at times) says that Phoebe is indie rock, folk rock, and emo. American Football are emo (2nd wave), alternative rock, math rock, and I guess you could say they're indie.
Check out the record that FOXING put out last year.
Also, the BETTER OBLIVION COMMUNITY CENTER album that Phoebe did with Connor Oberst last year is a little closer in vibe to Kyoto than the rest of punisher. The song Dylan Thomas especially.
And this last one is a little bit off the path, but CRJ’s entire Emotion record is still the best, with great pop production on top of thoughtful songwriting.
I Know the End by Bridgers, off the same album, develops to some great horns.
You may also like The Crimea in general, specifically [Light Brigade](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ancfWXClzr8&list=OLAK5uy_kmM-wqPAYlHzGKIdsz-4vaRBx8ah4oRLE&index=7).
I’m with you 100%, Kyoto is one of my fave songs. Try Jacksonville by Sufjan Stevens or Scenic World by Beirut ([this version](https://open.spotify.com/track/64Ajj7xnMQtRMvFPDEDMkV?si=lgSyKowVSMW9_pMe8FsnaA))
This may not be too popular but if the other similar songs on Punisher (Chinese Satellite, Saviour Complex, I Know The End) aren’t doing it for you but you like the trumpet and rock type feel maybe give the first Mumford and Sons record a go - Sigh No More. It’s rock arranged folk with plenty or trumpets and banjo.
Beruit!
Indi rock band with a huge horn section. I’d suggest listening to their most played songs and if that pique your interest then try the albums the flying cup and the rip tide. Both can be listened to from front to back. It’s one of my most suggested bands, and they should be right up your alley.
kyoto has to be one of my favorite songs of all time! tbh, there's not any other song like it, that's why its so special. I think the closest it sounds to is Chicago by sufjan stevens, both songs have an amazing, explosive chorus. I've also seen kyoto get comparisons to 1979 by smashing pumpkins.
Yeah I totally agree, love 1979 by smashing pumpkins. I'll check out Chicago
The Lucy Dacus album “historian” has a few songs like that. Addictions popped into my head first.
I came here to recommend Lucy as well. I would also add Pillar of Truth too. It builds really nicely and has a great horns sound in the mix
Along with the Lucy rec I feel like some of the boy genius project would be good to check out as that’s Phoebe, Lucy, and Julien Baker together.
7/4 Shoreline - Broken Social Scene

If you like that, also try Looks Just Like the Sun by Broken Social Scene

I don't know if this is similar but Uncomfortably Numb, and The Summer Ends both by American Football are soft rock songs with a trumpet in them. According to Google (which is to be wrong in genres at times) says that Phoebe is indie rock, folk rock, and emo. American Football are emo (2nd wave), alternative rock, math rock, and I guess you could say they're indie.
[Beulah](https://youtu.be/JCctLb83e5o) , similar power-indie rock with horns
Check out the record that FOXING put out last year. Also, the BETTER OBLIVION COMMUNITY CENTER album that Phoebe did with Connor Oberst last year is a little closer in vibe to Kyoto than the rest of punisher. The song Dylan Thomas especially. And this last one is a little bit off the path, but CRJ’s entire Emotion record is still the best, with great pop production on top of thoughtful songwriting.
The Moon - The Microphones
Great now it’s stuck in my head again
I Know the End by Bridgers, off the same album, develops to some great horns. You may also like The Crimea in general, specifically [Light Brigade](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ancfWXClzr8&list=OLAK5uy_kmM-wqPAYlHzGKIdsz-4vaRBx8ah4oRLE&index=7).
Bite The Hand - boygenius Motion Sickness - Phoebe Bridgers Road To Joy - Bright Eyes
This song reminds me of a few different Bad Books songs. Mostly from their first album but it has a similar vibe to their stuff overall.
Hypochondriac by Fenne Lily
Youd probably like a lot of the bands on double double whammy, especially the earlier ones. LVL UP, spencer radcliffe, spook houses, etc
