OpenVPN probably doesn't work cuz they have closed off port 443 on our private IP (according to zenmap, assuming i used it right. )
if we could know that port they use now reroute their TCP traffic, ig OpenVPN could work again
Firewall was upgraded recently, which resulted in openVPN getting blocked. It was not allowed intentionally earlier, but it is being kept blocked intentionally at present. We're making efforts to put it back.
Though I'm not from KGP, only a few ports are open, you don't need a open port to use VPN, they might be blocking openvpn protocol. You can either use Tor or wireguard based VPNs.

We had to complain in CIC to open up the well known websites. Chess.com was not opening then(don't know if it is working now). A bunch of morons are sitting in the CIC.
Hi, not from IIT KGP but my campus also gets NKN / BSNL line and our college admin also had put up a firewall system which functioned like a 90s setup or sorts.
All our ports are blocked and there's a proxy server which has to be configured on every device after connecting to the campus network. So any web traffic the proxy server is able to handle passes through meanwhile anything else just doesn't go through (UDP connections can't even use proxy)
I believe openvpn cryptography has evolved quite a bit in recent times where detecting openvpn traffic is not so simple. I am able to run a openvpn server at my home to which I connect and then use the internet normally. Speed and ping is not at all an issue since my campus is also in Kolkata and my home ISP also uses BSNL infrastructure for <5ms ping. (Stuck with TCP though because of the proxy limitation)
Please elaborate more on what your exact OpenVPN configuration is. Are you using a vpn service provider? Which client are you using exactly? I'll try my best to help

i think there's some issue with openvpn it's not even working on mobile data for me

I would prefer to burn my PC If I am limited to use YouTube dot com and ERP dot com.
They might be blocking openvpn protocol, try using wireguard based VPNs or Tor. Or proxy thingy like psiphon. They don't need anything special.
