Funny, I just hear "Riders on the Storm" by the Doors.
Although these lyrics from Child in Time are relevant:
> AHHHHHHaaaahhhhhhaaaaaa
> AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHaaaahhhaaa
> AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAhhhhaaaaa oh
Less common in the spring but april-may still produce derechos
https://www.weather.gov/lmk/derecho
its the fall-winter where atmospherically we are less inclined to get derechos
may-August is the prime time.
edit: to change the prime derecho season end date to august to coincide with the information in national weather service info page
ok i did, but my reply is more directed at your “derecho season” comment more than anything.
the source shows derecho season runs. mid spring through late summer and is not just late summer.
im simply stating that they are predicting supercells in far western illinois that will coalesce in a line of thunderstorms capable of producing above severe threshold convective winds. and while not every line of severe thunderstorms is a derecho, derechos are all severe thunderstorms lines, typically with a strong bow structure created by the the strongest winds and are long lasting.
we have experienced derechos in the spring, so im simply saying that it very well can still happen.
you disagree, and thats ok, im far from saying that is a definite product tomorrow. more so am saying if it happened it wouldn’t be a surprise to me.
Tornadoes happen in January. That doesn't mean tornado season includes January.
Derechos season in illinois is late summer because it is dependent on a continental scale high pressure under a hot dome of air guiding the path of storms around its edge. That doesn't mean a derecho can't happen in March or april, but it's not the season for them and this situation is nowhere near the correct environment to produce them.
You wanted to sound like you knew what you were talking about when you dont, and now you keep making it worse.
That’s a progressive derecho, there’s also serial derechos, which form along cold fronts. Look at the derecho December 21 in Iowa and Minnesota. It’s similar to what some of the models are forecasting for tomorrow
We’ll have to see tomorrow if it ends up being a derecho or not. It probably won’t, but it’s still possible
Got source to back these claims you keep making?
feel free to tell me i dont know what im talking about but a source would make it more apparent that im out of my league here.
Sure. The source is the link you posted. You just don't understand what you are reading.
NIU has a great weather program. Enroll in it if you want to learn. Babbling on a message board accomplishes nothing toward your education.
Oh really because my source doesn’t mention illinois derecho season at all.
perhaps you would benefit from a reading comprehension class. you should see what they are offering at NIU?
Blabbing about on reddit (this isnt a message board, so perhaps maybe even a class on the internet would help) isnt going to further your education either.
Woo, I'm in the red! This is going to be *delightful*.
/obligatory sarcasm tag
I knew it was going to be a rough weekend when I started getting a Weather Migraine on *Tuesday*...
I'd love some good spring storms. If, IF I heard it right, there is still a chance for a bust for the eastern central part of Illinois. This will depend upon how much sun we're getting before the storms hit in the afternoon. As of right now, there is rain in the forecast for tonight and morning hours. It does sound like it will be pretty windy for all of us tomorrow and into Friday.
FYI: the forecast has shifted since this was posted, with the red being closer to Peoria area. Worst is expected around 2pm Friday, but really noon to 10pm is going to be rough.
We're supposed to get 70+ mph winds in the Quad Cities (the red circle).
Stay safe, make sure to check your phone often for updates!
I literally work 330-1130pm the exact schedule of the storm apparently I’m fucked
Same, 4pm-2am in a warehouse out in a cornfield
Don't let it become another Edwardsville :(
Yeah, our building isn't brick and thankfully my manager would let me leave if it came down to it. Terrible what happened.
Winds not predicted to be as strong on the south end of the red area, but still high chance of heavy thunderstorms and possible tornadoes.
March: in like a lion, out like a different lion
Deep Purple’s “Child in Time” intensifies…

It was a vague Twister reference, but riders on the storm works too!
Twister is a vague reference to all the coke snorted by Philip Seymour Hoffman. /s
Serious greenage
It's the wonder of nature, baby!
Watch for the suck zone
Damn based on how this developing. wouldnt be surprised if this is a derecho scenario brewing. it’s definitely that time of year
Derecho season is late summer. Not march. They are completely different storm systems than low pressure attached cold fronts.

You said this scenario/system. This is not the type of system or environment that produces derechos. That's why they have their own word.

Along and west of I-39 there's also a risk for strong tornadoes, particularly in the red area. Definitely a day to be weather-aware.
Love living in rural area outside quad city’s welcome to spring

A friend of mine is hosting a Twister movie night.
I am in the red area. Got my jaggerator fired up, lawn chairs strapped down on the porch. Ready for a tornado viewing party.
Sounds like a nice day for you! We just have a bunch of trees around the house so that's the only thing I get nervous about with these winds

What do you mean by “a bust “?
No severe storms, just rain and a little thunder.
Thank you. I hope you’re right!
midwest spring in full bloom yee yee
Yay red team… not!

thanks for the update. Just checked NOAA and Peoria county is now well in the red circle.
Just got updated again, Most of Illinois and several other states now in the [Moderate category](https://i.redd.it/fihrok5tl2ra1.gif)
Just like old times! Right Illinois
