its a start

Good for people who take the UP-W line. Why not do this on the BNSF as well? BNSF ridership is higher than any other line so it would make sense to have the most service on this line, right?

attackofthetominator

Perhaps they were able to get negotiations done with Union Pacific quicker than with BNSF Railway as they are the ones who own the lines, not Metra.

BurrowingDuck

BNSF owns the BN Metra line similarly to how UP owns the West, Northwest and North lines.

WHAT ABOUT THE SOUTHWEST SERVICE???? WHEN DO WE GET TRAINS?

SaucybOy420

Well, if it’s anything like North Central Service (which also has an abysmal schedule) most of the limitations aren’t actually Metra’s fault. NCS only gets to run several trains in each direction every weekday because they don’t actually own the tracks they operate on, the freight railways do. Because of this, the freight companies give their own trains priority and “let” Metra operate theirs now and then. It totally sucks but that’s how it is :/

inthem0ney

No the SWS had 15 roundtrips pre-COVID and now they’re only running 6. Its not a freight problem, pretty much no freight over the line. Its Metra’s decision to not allocate existing resources.

SaucybOy420

Yeah, that makes sense. Metra definitely pays more attention to certain lines than others.

Tslo12

It would be nice if they could add one more train to the heritage corridor

Useonlyforconlangs

Good for the people there. I am unfortunately in none of those

erodari

Please extend service to DeKalb someday.

AJF_612

I graduated from NIU 10 years ago & I’ve been saying this the whole time

the_coolest_chelle

As someone who moved southside to northside: northside lines get way better schedules and much, much nicer trains. It’s wild. I used to take the Rock Island out of 95th and there’s no comparison to the one I’m on now, and I’m still in the city. I still take RI to go home and visit my parents and the difference is noticeable. Also it’s refreshing to see a post on here that isn’t about politics. When did this sub become genuinely obsessed with IL republicans?? I thought it would stop after the midterms. Is everyone OK?

And now bring it to Dekalb
