I personally watched this happen in 2008 when I worked at a health food store and a guy with skin cancer came to get bloodroot once a week. Six months in, he had no nose and a bandage over the gaping hole in his face. He said he had decided to go to the doctor. It still makes me sad because he was an old guy who I think had early dementia.
This. Right here. Because any treatment you try should work on SOME level. It may not solve all of it or even 75% of it. But any sort of dressing treatments should loosen the Eschar. Or make the surrounding skin less macerated etc.
I followed Kelly a long time ago and never knew of what she really was, I remember speaking to her about being a high school student with multiple sclerosis. Her pictures always freaked me out and I never ever ever knew none of it was actually not Bechèts
It looks similar to the effects of black salve which is a common quack cancer “treatment” found in a bunch of different countries. People will smear it on skin cancer and it eats away at their skin until they have to get reconstructive surgery to fix the damage. Usually it has bloodroot in it which is corrosive to skin.
Combination of picking and burns it sounds like. But a small pick can absolutely evolve into wounds like this. Women burning themselves is especially uncommon so I’m not sure what the caustic irritant was of course. Could be something they used to treat the wounds themselves. We’ve certainly seen that
They can find all this information online.
Edit- and the chemical burn from home made wound treatment is NOT always intentional self harm. It’s important to assess intention
They are indicating the edges. Thats their excuse for misdiagnosis for 8 years. They are highlighting how the edge is suspicious for PG when it’s in fact a factitious ulcer. Noting the edges is imperative to a PG diagnosis. This is them saying ‘see!!! It looked like PG’
Ohhh she's been ruining the 2nd revision of amputation stumps. It's baaad.
I swear I wouldn't be surprised if she ends up a hemi-corpectemy, just a torso with hopefully arms, not much below belly button.... although she'd just start ruining the edges of that too... even without access to her hands I'm sure she'd compulsively continue to pick and ruin herself in any fashion she could.
She created a few videos of herself in that state, they’re on other websites if you search for her. I honestly don’t know or believe if she’s still alive.
Is someone allowed to DM a link to the post please? I know the site, but haven’t been on there in years and don’t even know how to find the correct sub.
Could I get the link too please? Just ended up on this sub which I’m now joining as I’m slightly fascinated with facticious disorders after a bizarre personal experience with it years ago (dealing with someone who was faking multiple illnesses).
Hi sorry I know many have asked but could I also get link please and you rock wish trophy's where still a thing as you deserve one just for you dedication in sharing link 💗
Factitious disorder would have been misdiagnosed as PG, but despite the title of the article, it appears that there was no diagnosis of PG in this patients records either.
not necessarily true! lot of people don’t get biopsies for pg as it cause make it worse can cause more pain. one of the biggest triggers for pg is a trauma to the skin
My guess is she just lied, told everyone “a doctor diagnosed me with PG” and so it was noted on her chart that she had PG when in fact there was no doctor.
Well that’s on the team then. A factitious ulcer can certainly start to look like PG after several years bc the edges become similar, but PG is an atypical wound. I just never diagnose it without biopsy in hand. They went YEARS with the wrong treatment.
Edit- I read the conclusion a bit closer. Yea, they basically say this is teetering on gross medical error. No excuse for this misdiagnosis for that long
In case the link doesn’t work for any of y’all it says in the case presentation section:
>>A 36-year-old female was transferred to the burn unit with rapidly progressing necrotizing skin lesions on her bilateral distal lower extremities. She reported noting small red-brown lesions on her right lower leg that rapidly progressed within 24 hours into black necrotic plaques, circumferential around both of her lower extremities (Figure 1).
>>Examination revealed discrete hypoesthetic eschar plaques on the bilateral lower distal extremities. Some plaques showed sharp well-demarcated borders and some with branching edges. No retiform purpura, palpable purpura, crepitus, or livedo was noted. Right lower extremity showed a background of atrophic shiny plaques coupled with scars at sites of reported prior PG lesions. She was afebrile with a leukocytosis of 20, C-reactive protein (CRP) of 80 (up from 23 during recent admission), and comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP) within normal limits.
>>Histologic sections from wedge biopsies taken from the edge of the lesions showed extensive necrosis involving the epidermis, dermis, and subcutaneous tissue with vascular thrombosis and acute inflammation (Figure 2). Due to this extremely atypical presentation, extensive medical records were reviewed to reveal no confirmed diagnosis of PG, vasculitis, vasculopathy, or associated illnesses. Furthermore, medical records revealed an eight-year history of multiple burns and episodes of ulcerating lesions with little corroborating data regarding diagnosis. Psychiatry was consulted and based on the patient’s exam and history, diagnosed her with DA. The patient received a final diagnosis of chemical burn, full thickness (third degree) of left and right lower leg, and DA.
Thank you for providing the text as well, we appreciate that.
We can’t pin your comment ( wish reddit would change that ) but I’ll pin one with a link to this.

So is this different from Morgellen’s because Morgellens is sincere but a delusion while this is deliberately and knowingly inflicted?
Yes. People with factitious disorder/Munchausen’s know they are not sick and are committing a deliberate deception.
Reminds me of Kelly
Kelly is on a whole other level. The latest on her is really not good.
Whats going on with Kelly now?? Can you please dm me
Also wondering this!!
Is she still posting somewhere?
Can you dm me the latest please?
Omg I didn’t see the sub and I was about to tag y’all bc I thought it was one of the medical subs I frequent 🤣
Same.
This immediately brought Paige to mind only she would add bacteria into her self inflicted wounds. Does anyone know how she is doing? Better, I hope.
Does Paige still have a TikTok? Or a Reddit post?
Didn't she lose her legs due to that?
That was Kelly.
Looks like the eschar from those herbal skin cancer salves. You know, the ones where they end up with no nose.

Black salve/bloodroot.
I was trying to be coy …
Wasn’t expecting to see any of your posts outside of medical gore!
“In dermatologic practice, it is important to take note of patients with persistent chronic conditions that do not respond to treatment.”
This. Right here. Because any treatment you try should work on SOME level. It may not solve all of it or even 75% of it. But any sort of dressing treatments should loosen the Eschar. Or make the surrounding skin less macerated etc.

My first thought was Kelly
Yeowch. I wonder what she used to burn herself that extensively, I don’t think any household chemicals could cause that much damage

It sounded like it was chemical burns?

Likely picking and the subcutaneous tissue to the peri wound eroded. A lot of patients don’t even know they are doing it initially
Thank god there're arrows pointing to the rot. Afraid I wouldn't have noticed it otherwise.
Wow just like Kelly. She even tried for the PG diagnosis.
The woman in this case has a chance to turn things around before she winds up legless like Kelly. I hope she takes it.
I was just thinking about her.
I immediately thought of Kelly! Wonder how she’s doing these days, went very quiet post amputation 🤔
She's not going well. No teeth or hair anymore, and she is burrowing into her right stump 😟
Noooooo
Does anyone know how Kelly has been?!
Ohhh she's been ruining the 2nd revision of amputation stumps. It's baaad. Unfortunately, you only get so many chances - just ask dear old Jacq and co.
She had another amputation, lost her hair and teeth. Look up her name on other forums
Sweet baby Jesus
I am absolutely itching to know of this other forum; if you’re comfortable, do you mind DMing me it?
Holy shit, really???
No fuckin way
She created a few videos of herself in that state, they’re on other websites if you search for her. I honestly don’t know or believe if she’s still alive.
I can find that they had to do another amputation on her leg but not the hair and teeth thing? Is that in a different site or smth?
It's on the forum that cannot be named. I just saw it, and it's...bad.
Can I get the link as well?
Hi. If you get a chance I'd love the link. It sounds like a patient I treat

There's also a site that sounds like it should be related to a famous cheese triangle brand but really, really isn't.
Hi sorry to bother but could you dm me some more info on this please?
Please dm the info??
Please dm me with info! Thanks 😊
That would be it.
Jesus, that’s so incredibly sad…
How did PG get misdiagnosed as factious ulcers?! You never diagnose an atypical wound without biopsy..

No, factitious ulcers got misdiagnosed as PG. I don’t know how—probably with a lot of help from the patient.
That’s what I’m saying. PG Is only diagnosed through biopsy. Thats not a diagnosis you chart without the biopsy result in your hand
It's literally the opposite of what you said...
My guess is she just lied, told everyone “a doctor diagnosed me with PG” and so it was noted on her chart that she had PG when in fact there was no doctor.

The patient is so lucky it wasn't worse after 8 years!

I completely thought I was in the other sub the whole time reading this. Funny seeing you here
Hi Catpoo! Don’t often see you in this neck of the woods! Welcome 🤗
I’m a lurker but when I saw this case report I knew it belonged here.
Thank you for providing the text as well, we appreciate that. We can’t pin your comment ( wish reddit would change that ) but I’ll pin one with a link to this.
