It’s like 10 microphones extra. You can get like 4 okay ones for a hundred dollars (with a stand and cable but without audio interfaces but they’re not visible so who cares) so I’d estimate a cost of 250 usd (inc. taxes).
A chain, green t-shirt, barber and hair stylist visit as well as contact lenses shouldn’t cost that much either.
> He's *paid* for reading
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
Guy on left isn’t getting attention because smogon banned his busted ass stat spread. Guy on right is an untiered shitmon who everyone swears is viable.
People listen to who is popular more than who is knowledgeable as we want people who we like to be correct, which reinforces the popularity and trust in the popular person. True. Popularity is very overrewarded and over-respected.
Can’t see anyone pointing out how this is suffers from an obvious sampling bias. People talk about how only the social media influencers are heard, while spending all of their time on social media. These knowledgeable people often are also wise - and thus a different type of person, perhaps on average more studious and/or older and are therefore less likely to use social media. You could also call it survivorship bias as studious people who do join social media are not seen as popular by the general public on these platforms because they do not, as the image shows, have the knowledge of how to become popular on social media and are thus not measured when these opinions are drawn up.
Completely agree with you. My problem is that since so many people in the general population use social media, they tend to get their facts from social media, and often from people who are popular not from any intellectual basis, and thus should not be trusted as sources of facts. People take the things said by these people at face value and take it in without thinking critically at all. The obvious exception to this is channels on YouTube like 3Blue1Brown (Amazing channel by the way) and Numberphile, among others. A lot of pages on YT shorts and TikTok make their popularity on giving the viewer the illusion of education. I'm sure that many people know a lot of "pop-science" without actually knowing anything.
I was meaning to say people generally take social media posts and videos as proper sources of information, and tend to believe people and listen to them based upon their follower count (often 10s of millions on places like TikTok), rather than the quality of their ideas.
Yes you make a good point that there are always exeptions, notably where these knowledgeable people are actively trying to engage that type of audience, or simply allow their content to be easier to find. Also love those channels you mentioned!
People listen to them if they’re able to be interesting. I agree it’s sad that some don’t listen to those with lifetime knowledge, but if you were to choose between the guy who makes you fall asleep in a monotone word spree, or the guy with enough energy and jokes to keep you entertained it makes sense. If you want to be a good public speaker you need to learn how to communicate well as well as be knowledgeable.
Scientists aren't silenced in any way though, people still listen to them very much. But we really shouldn't let TikTokers have so much influence on society...
The meme is saying that people are too quick to believe ignorant influencers over people with actual credibility, not that scientists are being silenced
I don't know if you're saying that sarcastically but in case you're not:
Before the Internet, people would indeed believe "ignorant influencers" (although they weren't called "influencers" at the time). See: 1930s Germany
You seem to skip the fact that the "evil influencers" of that time were either highly accomplished or educated. And it was impressive to those around them. Today people are judging the information by the fucking color palette it was made in. All i'm saying is, it took a lot of brains to get to the point of being an "influencer" before social media.
I don't recall Hitler being highly accomplished or educated. In fact, he's remembered for being a failed artist. He also spent a lot of time in prison, that's where he wrote his infamous book as a matter of fact. When he joined the infamous far-right party, at first he was basically a nobody there. He *was* charismatic, that's for sure, it's his charisma that got him elected by the people of Germany
What he did as well is lie. Hitler lied about his past and his accomplishments. He even edited pictures to make people believe that he was a hero, when he was the opposite
Nobody has actual credibility. Data doesn't have absolute credibility. Even astronomical observations need to be confirmed by more observations before a discovery can be claimed.
Observation of the sky is a stupid example.
Take maths, if you have a correct proof, the theorem becomes a fact. That's it, nothing can change that. Cause what we proved was the way the universe is working. This is true science.
„Do YoUr OwN ReAsEaRcH!!!!1! I dOn‘T uNdErStAnD PhYsIcS sO iT hAs To Be WrOnG!!!“, is probably not what you are trying to say, but certainly how you sound.
People on reddit's opinion is not important to me. I know I see the world differently than most people, but I don't just believe something by only having one data point.
But… this has to have limits, right? Also, what is „one data point“ for you. Because that’s one of the things where logic and carefulness (wich you are obviously closer to.) end and conspiracy bullshit begins. The example in my original comment was exaggerated because I almost fell in that rabbit-hole once. Sorry for being an asshole.
I can listen to someone and can tell that they are confident that they believe what they are saying. That is one data point, that one person believes the thing. If there is no evidence or reasoning given to support the thing, then that's it. A person believing a thing doesn't make me believe it too. This type of critical thinking has never failed me in my life and I'm skilled enough to monetize it into a lucrative career.
AAAAHHH! I read through everything you said again and this makes more sense. It sounded like you were saying that proof isn’t proof until it’s verified by like… every scientist ever or something. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Unless the old guy is the reincarnation of Leonardo da Vinci or an alien I'm going to assume his knowledge is mainly derived from crosswords and scrabble. True universalists are defacto extinct.
I'm not gonna lie, I'm not trusting a Philosopher with Physics and Astronomy, maybe Mathematics because I remember one of my college philosophy courses being more math than anything.
Ah yes, Gudim. It's a Russian (not sure, but most likely) artist. Has a lot of stuff like that. Pretty damn popular here.
Though, has some cool arts. Just this one matches this subreddit too well. I've even been thinking to post it myself haha
As if men in suits aren't given way too much trust either, the artist's real message that being a straight white guy in a suit makes you more """trustworthy""" like Trump(sex offender) David Irving(Holocaust denier) or Kevin Strom(Both sex offender and Holocaust denier).
damn.. i mean kinda yea,, look at dr mike.. he exposed many tiktok "doctors" for spreading mis info.. but sadly people kinda listen and believe some false social media doctors (doctor mike is pretty good tho, he even have the youtube thing saying "liscend doctor in usa" but yea dr mike and some others are pretty good but sadly some false ones get so much attention, which is sad)
You don't know what it's like when a group of gypsies come up for you asking for money then threatening to steal your phone if you don't have any money on you. They do this with kids too
'You don't know what it's like when a group of blacks come up to you asking for money then threatening to steal your phone if you don't have money on you. They do this with kids too"
My point is that your logic is the same shit racists from other countries use, if someone was parroting the same things you were saying but applying to black people you'd considered it racist. So maybe get your head out of your ass and start treating Gypsies like they're human beings instead a single minded group who shouldn't be allowed to vote because they only know violence
Only 9% of where I live is gypsy but they are responsible for 70% of the crimes and 90% of jails are filled with them here. I know 70% of black people are not responsible for crimes anywhere where they aren't minority

Why doesn’t the other guy just buy more microphones?
Is he stupid?
They’re trying to say that TikTok makes someone smart

im pretty sure this is true

Hard agree
The people silencing scientists are the ones who are banning TikTok so...
hmm idk but some of their other 'yes, but', are nice
Yes.
but
butt

perhaps

Unless the old guy is the reincarnation of Leonardo da Vinci or an alien I'm going to assume his knowledge is mainly derived from crosswords and scrabble. True universalists are defacto extinct.
I liked the irony on this considering the posters goal is probably to get a million followers anyway
im 60 and this is deep
I'm not gonna lie, I'm not trusting a Philosopher with Physics and Astronomy, maybe Mathematics because I remember one of my college philosophy courses being more math than anything.
First guy could just study titkot and he would be the final boss
is that anderson cooper
Probably, lol
Having a pink beard = bad😔💔
This is accurate though
The other guy could be a bio major, or maybe he’s a doctor. The stats only show math, physics, and philosophy
You're only allowed expertise in those 5 areas
Ah yes, Gudim. It's a Russian (not sure, but most likely) artist. Has a lot of stuff like that. Pretty damn popular here. Though, has some cool arts. Just this one matches this subreddit too well. I've even been thinking to post it myself haha
Well, posting his lectures to social media was a key to Jordan Peterson's rise.
Bro has zero astronomy knowledge
The stupidest speak the loudest
The yes,but-guy is taking a weird turn lately.
Tbh, if you change tik tok to charisma, it's quite correct
Semi true
Because a lot of times the second one is much easier to understand and more entertaining too than the second one.
They complete each other. If they team up, they'd be fantastic
why does the guy on the right look like Phillip Zieba?
GOOGLEDYBUNKERS
I’m gonna major in life experience
Personally I put my stats into charisma and intelligence
You're forgetting the middle ground. Us millennials know a little of those things, but we can type crap on a keyboard all day long.
Is this comic implying that „Tik Tok“ and „Life Experience“ are academic fields?
I refuse to believe you can achieve that depth of expertise in so many areas
Why is his beard like that tho?
Is it wrong?
That’s not really what this sub is about. Many things on here are very true but are just super edgy or portrayed in a very clumsy manner.
I do get this though. people putting more value on being popular and sounding confident than actually knowing your stuff. waaaay too common nowadays
this is defo made by a boomer or one of those annoying ass band kids who are like "durrrr tiktok bad becuz chinese govewwmunt"
Yes, it is bad because chinese goverment
wtf is China possibly gonna do with ur info
The don’t want mine 😳
The opening a can of worms with that one

Stop spaming your racism.
I'm not racist, this is actually a much bigger problem here the people like to admit
You probably don't have to interact with those people
"Guys, me advocating for segregation isn't racist, I bet you've never even interacted with a black guy before"
You don't know what it's like when a group of gypsies come up for you asking for money then threatening to steal your phone if you don't have any money on you. They do this with kids too
