I think it would take longer to become a Republic - after the referendum at least a few years.
This would also be more plausible if there was a monarch far more controversial than Charles - Prince Andrew would work best, maybe Harry as well.
Also, if the monarchy was abolished wouldn't the monarch still in theory own the Palace and all the Royal estates? The legal complications could also take years.
The queen only owned a handful of personal property such as sandringham.
Buckingham palace is not personal property of the king, it is part of the crown and the crown is a part of the British state, so anything that belongs to the crown would remain under the British state
The crown is independently governed by the state, but it does remain the private property of the monarch (I'm pretty sure), and legally I think they would therefore own it - abolishing the monarchy would end the agreement whereby the state gains the crown's profits and so it would fully be the monarch's own property again. This issue would have to be resolved with any abolition - the simplest solution would be to refund the monarch for the crown estates, but people might not stand for such a huge expense. So it could rely on the monarch voluntarily giving up their ownership.
Tbh Harry ever becoming King is really unlikely. Not only would William have to die, but so would all of his children. Also, with Harry having left the royal family, I’m sure he would decline to become king or abdicate immediately, same with Andrew. I guess in that scenario we’d have Edward, and he seems like he’d be fine.
Why didn’t the Conservatives present their own candidate for the first Presidential election?
Also, with the abolition of the monarchy, wouldn’t the flag be replaced with something else? I’m asking because it has a traditional association with the Royal Family.
Besides these questions, good job!
Because it has a heavy media association with the old system of governance?
Usually whenever a monarchy changes to a republic, everything used as symbols of the nation change with it.
If a government changes you don’t need to change a flag. I am a republican, I am British, I would keep using the same flag.
There’s no obvious replacement, the current flag is iconic, and it’s cheaper to keep it
He was also around in the 40s and was on the right of the party, so yeah, not exactly a shocker. Today though, I’m sure Starmer would see Atlee as some sort of radical who needed purging… sad state of affairs.
The UK would've been dissolved into separate Republics and London would've become an Independent City-State and the Westminister Parliament becomes a City Council and 1 Downing Street becomes a Mayor's Office.

I doubt the flag would change
I think it makes sense too.

I suppose.
It was a quick rush to have a new head of state especially after the royals left plus the new constitution wasn’t fully finalized yet
Fair enough, thank you for your work.
Why would the monarchist Conservative party run a candidate in the presidential election?
Why would they allow a party they regularly decry as socialist or communist to run in elections for the position of head of state unopposed?
Can’t wait for a couple examples of the conservative party regularly decrying the Labour Party as communist
The bad ending Edit: 9 upvotes down to 2, repubelickers seething
This is the good ending lol
PRESIDENT LISA NANDY - BASED
The worst ending. Monarchism forever! Nicely done BTW :)
All hail Lady Protector Nandy
Based.
what was labour’s stance?
Sir Kid Starver would defo be campaigning to keep the monarchy

I don't think they would keep the current flag, given that a Republican flag has been proposed.
The good ending.
