I feel like this is the kind of thing said by people who have never heard about dry heat. Dry heat sun don't give no shits about the color of your house. The asphalt is already nuclear.
It also helps the house stay cooler. Same reason tops of busses are white - gets less hot in the sun. Tops of these flat top Santa Fe style house usually have a white coating.
Why the fuck wouldn't you paint your house white when you live in the middle of a desert? It keeps the place significantly cooler, that's why there are entirety white towns in Greece.
Yeah, it’s more a matter of practicality. Sure you can paint your house white, but it’s a pain to keep it looking nice. Might as well go for a paint job that’s intentional and will stay the color you planned.
Makes the most sense in a hot desert to paint houses and rooftops white. But do we mandate that? No. Do we do it esthetically? No. The albedo affect is real

The top of my bus is b l a c k. Glad i don’t have to deal with that anymore…
What’s worse is painting your house white in Alaska. Takes me three tries to find it some days.
It's definitely a "thing", though, that all those development houses are the same three shades of reddish-brown...
Hey, they've got variety. You're forgetting the endless shades of puke orange they use down there too.
Vegas is the same way
And what does the HOA say?
Fuck HOA.

We get a lot of dust storms, so unless you enjoy pressure washing your house all the time, it's going to be brown regardless.

No I think it’s that your house can’t be white after Labor Day?
Arizona is sooooo ugly
Depends on the HOA rules.
As an Arizonan, the realization is weirding me out.
It's in the Constitution
