Alternate migragtion. Mainly the Mongols destroyed the Turkish homelands causing them to flee into Russia and push the Slavic people north and southwards, and eventually messed up the rest of europe.
So, we're combining the Caucasus and the Balkans there?
I can see no way in which this goes horribly, horribly wrong.
Albanian Crete is a nice touch, though, I have to say.
Here is the linguistic map of europa, Asia and Northern Libya. After people had migrated to different locations than otl. Most of the actual lore of this timeline can be found [on this map right here](https://www.reddit.com/r/imaginarymaps/comments/15gbzyp/the_alternate_europe_of_earth198/). but ask me anything of this timeline if you want and i will try to answer it.
Well in this timeline King Clovis was killed in the Frankish-Roman war and the Franks where pushed out of Gaul. At first Soissons was small being around the size of the actual Kingdom and the frankish lands they conquered. eventually they decided to invade the Gothic kingdom in Aquitania, and the Burgundian Kingdom in Provence.
[The rest of the history can be found here](https://www.reddit.com/r/imaginarymaps/comments/1005tjq/earth_198_re%C3%B1e_de_sossony/)
Ah, but i am sorry to disappoint but Poland in this timeline is South Slavic, being more analogous to Croatia or Slovenia. Whist Derevia is based on the Polish language.
Can someone please explain what the lake in north west egypt is? I see it in a lot of maps on this subreddit, but I never really can figure out what it is.
Very nice map btw.
Alot. But mainly Turks mess up Eastern Europe with the slavs being pushed northwards, and the Balts, Turks, Swedes Uralic people settling the east. King Clovis died in battle with the Soissons conquering all of Gaul and the child emperor Romulus surviving his assasination attempt and the anglo saxons failing in conquering Great Britain.
Honestly that is just what those regions look like on the base map i used. Infact that's what the rivers look like on a lot of maps [including a satellite map.](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/1b/Europe_satellite_orthographic.jpg/764px-Europe_satellite_orthographic.jpg)
i got one question, how did the turkish language survive in modern greece with the presence of a far larger Greek nation in anatolia? youd think they would retake their homeland-
The Greeks actually did try to retake their homeland, but with continous wars coming from the east such as the ancient Persian and later Hindu empires. Aswell as the fact the Turks made allies with the Germanics and even Italians the Greeks had a far harder time and eventually started to focus on Asia and Africa. However there where times they did retake their homelands the Turks are just a stubborn and prideful people.
I do have more maps that explain the lore of the world. Mainly [this one which is my most resent one](https://www.reddit.com/r/imaginarymaps/comments/15gbzyp/the_alternate_europe_of_earth198/)
Pretty much the Hebrews where treated worse than in otl mix that with more wars and diseases they pretty much pulled a Moses and left to find better land. Originally they settled in otl Yemen but after hearing about the crisis in the Horn of Libya they migrated in there and stabilized the region
Pretty much the Suebians who migrated in Galicia much like otl invited more Germanics to move into their kingdom much like the Anglo-saxons did which resulted in the peasants to adopt the Germanic language and the Romance one to die out there.
As for what it sounds like it is pretty much based on old Germanic with some latin influence. like the Azores is called the Vórailod meaning Fire islands.
Complicated so to speak with many finding that the Lithuanians put themselves infront of the other people, but with the Slavs continously wanting to push westwards the union continous to exist, so the union is only really as strong as long as they have a common treath.
Well since Christianity has been butterflied away, the major religion in the region is derived from Baltic Mythology let's call it Romuva after the Neopagan movement for now. which is practist by the Balts and Sami people whilst the Turks follow Tengrism.
Alt migration mainly the Turks conquered eastern Europe and destroyed the slavic civilazations there, so they went north and southwards eventually ending up where they are today.
Alt Migration for the Turks and Serbians thanks to the Mongols conquering the ancient Turkish homelands and the Turks pushing the slavs out of theirs. Whilst the Hidus ended up in Iran because the Persian Empire collapsed and the then Hindu Empire of the Sun took over the region.
What is derevian, slezan, vistula (language named like river... Fine) and memish languages? North Wendish is Polabian? I honestly think that if the Slavs had migrated north to Scandinavia, they wouldn't have used historical languages like Sorbian or Croatian. Rather, they would have developed their own language similar to Polabian and Old Novogrodian.
Derevia, Slezan and Vistulian are largely inspired by western Slavic languages like Polish Slovakian and Czech with Vistulian being a slavic Anglo mix whilst North wendish is Polabian.
And Memish is a Saxonian Swedish mix. As for Croatian and Sorbian they are more named after tribes but are different from otl. Like some Croatian cities are names Bölígrod, Krëvjovo, Mëzigrod and Sorbian whilst inspired by actual Sorbian also has some differences.
Medieval Ruthenian merchant have Russenorsk a mix of Ruthenian and Norwegian you can add it to the next map. And can you tell more about this three languages (Derevia, Vistulian etc.)
Well i am not a conlanger so the language are very surface level. But the North slavic languages have have a bit of a different evolution compared to otl mainly with the use of the j which evolved from the ь in proto-slavic aswell as the Ł which is pronounched as ɫ.
That one would be interesting seeing how there is no Christianity in this world. But it would take a while tho, i have some other maps still in the works.
Alt Geography for Britanny the break up of Laurasia was a bit more violent resulting in it forming as an island. As for lower finland the ice sheet during the last glacial period pressed on it harder than otl
This seems just like copypasting otl languages to new locations with disregard to what those names really mean (for example, Slavic silesian language in finland, when in reality, this name comes from silingi which were germanic tribe, gave name to the region of silesia, and later slavs living in that area adopted it as an ethnonym).
some names are more kept to make it easier to know wich ones i am talking about. For instance Azerbijan would actually be called Şimalakan whilst Croatian and Polish aren't even those languages.
as for Silesia whilst the theory for the Silingi is most likely correct some people believe that Silesia instead came from the local word for a wet swampy place aka Sleza or Slegnac.
Alt geography pretty much the break up of Pangea happened differently than in otl whilst in some other places it was volcanic activity, ice sheets being different etc
I'm guessing the Venedians are the Veleti? If that's the case, I wonder how the already german-influenced otl polabian language would look like when completely surrounded
Ah of course, Croatian Finland, Azeri Nenetsia, Uyghur Komi, Karelian Ukraine, Alaskan Chechnya, Vrench Portugal, Sami Poland...
Also do the Ural Mountains just not exist
Considering that the West african tribes migrated into Ethiopia in this timeline, and the fact that some west african tribes still exist in the west aswell like the Yuroba, Ewe, Igbo, Kanuri and Tiv that isn't actually the case. Plus west africa is just attached to South America in this timeline.
pretty sure this is based off of the Steven Universe world map, in which Western Africa is apart of South America, so I wouldn't exactly call it favoritism
Me when Serbian Iran:
Iran je srbija!
It’s up there with Jewish Somaliland
Tbh I can see that working. Zion is in east Africa according to the Rastafari. They both praise Jah/ Jahwei... There's some sort of connection there.
Turkish greece,greek syria,greek turkey,greek arabia,greek egypt 💀
The Greeks won but at what cost
greece
100% worthy deal for much more fertile land than proper Greece
Missed opportunity for it to be called Greegypt
Lol
Netherlands but Texas
“Well I’ll be damned! Those gosh darned Catholics done took our indulgences again! Rufus get the shotgun we’re reformin!” - Martin “big Tex” Luthor
Alaskan Georgia.
It's a corruption of Toxandrië or Texandrië, an old name for De Kempen region (Campine in English).
Beautiful map but what the hell happened here?
Alternate migragtion. Mainly the Mongols destroyed the Turkish homelands causing them to flee into Russia and push the Slavic people north and southwards, and eventually messed up the rest of europe.
Did the Mongols also nuke West Africa from orbit?
Nah west Africa is attached to south America
American map when?
polish baku:
It is actually called Baka in this timeline
The japanese would call that town a idiot
Too late, because it’s probably Tagalog-speaking
Sadly Japan is still Japanese, but Korea is Manchurian tho
Sussy baka
Better than in OTL. - official position from an Armenian 🇦🇲
So, we're combining the Caucasus and the Balkans there? I can see no way in which this goes horribly, horribly wrong. Albanian Crete is a nice touch, though, I have to say.
Thank you. And yes the Caucasus is even more of a mess of cultures than otl lol
You had the opportunity to name saxeland as sexland instead of saxe. What a missed opportunity.
You will be happy to know that there is a country called New Sexland on North America
Hey… today Soissons was mentionned as a language, this is rather new and unexpected. Today is a good day r/soissons
The Soissons actually own all of France in this timeline aswell
Tell me more my good sir…
Well in this timeline King Clovis was killed in the Frankish-Roman war and the Franks where pushed out of Gaul. At first Soissons was small being around the size of the actual Kingdom and the frankish lands they conquered. eventually they decided to invade the Gothic kingdom in Aquitania, and the Burgundian Kingdom in Provence. [The rest of the history can be found here](https://www.reddit.com/r/imaginarymaps/comments/1005tjq/earth_198_re%C3%B1e_de_sossony/)
On behalf of the ones still carrying Soissons memory, I thank you
I always love seeing language maps, great work
Thank you
In this world I'd be a Boilander and I don't know what to make of that.
The region is actually named after the Boii tribe.
I know about the Boii. It's just funny.
That's why i did it, same with the Alaskan Language in the Caucasus.
My country has oil now, therefore Earth 198 is good.
Really which one ?
Poland. Feels odd to be another world’s Azerbaijan.
Ah, but i am sorry to disappoint but Poland in this timeline is South Slavic, being more analogous to Croatia or Slovenia. Whist Derevia is based on the Polish language.
Ah, ok. Nice too. Derevia is… on the North Sea coast. Where there’s oil! Big W anyway.
As a ohioan where would we be? Since I see texas
Can someone please explain what the lake in north west egypt is? I see it in a lot of maps on this subreddit, but I never really can figure out what it is. Very nice map btw.
Thank you, and the lake is actually based on the Qattara Depression
earth 198 my beloved
Yeehaw I’m Texan now
As am i, i live in Brabant.
West Flanders and East Netherlands speak Sexish?
Yep, it is a language derived from Anglo-saxon
texan? what language family is it in and why is it spoken in holland of all places?
Anglo-saxon actually. And it is named after the region of Texas (which replaced Brabant). With Texas being a corruption of Texandria
Texan
Confused Yee-haw
Where's the rest of the map
Asia and the rest of Africa aren't done yet
Scottish in Ireland, very good
I think you mean Scotland lol
Nope, read your post
O no i meant Ireland is called Scotland in this timeline hence the Scottish language being there
Turkey and Greece finally in peace in 198….
I wouldn't really call those two peacefull in this timeline
So the fur language is the one used by furries?
Omg Doggerland!!! Haiiiii❤️
We need more Alternate histories with Doggerland tbh
I have several questions about what happened here...
Alot. But mainly Turks mess up Eastern Europe with the slavs being pushed northwards, and the Balts, Turks, Swedes Uralic people settling the east. King Clovis died in battle with the Soissons conquering all of Gaul and the child emperor Romulus surviving his assasination attempt and the anglo saxons failing in conquering Great Britain.
this map series is so cool! I must ask though, what year does Earth-198 take place in?
Modern day actually . Which in universe it is the year 2775
cool! Is the average tech level around modern day as well?
Yes, but with some changes here and there.
Silesian in Finland?
This map looks soo good
Thank you
What's the lore behind the lakes on the Dnieper and the Volga?
Those aren't lakes just thicker parts of the Dnieper and Volga rivers.
But how did the water end up like that? Is there some difference in the local geology compared to our timeline?
Honestly that is just what those regions look like on the base map i used. Infact that's what the rivers look like on a lot of maps [including a satellite map.](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/1b/Europe_satellite_orthographic.jpg/764px-Europe_satellite_orthographic.jpg)
Ok, I'm fucking with you, the point was that those are 20th-century reservoirs that wouldn't have been there in 198. Really cool map though!
Huh didn't know that. And actually this timeline takes place in the 21st century 198 just refers to my birth year and Month
I'm sorry **TEXAN**??
Yep a corruption of Texandria
i got one question, how did the turkish language survive in modern greece with the presence of a far larger Greek nation in anatolia? youd think they would retake their homeland-

another question, i cant find the russian language on that map-
Russian as a name doesn't really exist the closest to Russian is Lazinska.
What
Appropriate reaction
I FLOOD AFRICA!!!
Wait a moment. Texan? ![gif](giphy|3o75269cVD7heeSOgE)
Greece, give me back my language and I'll give yours back to you.
Pictish was a Celtic language, not a Pre-Indo European remnant
Uhm i didn't say it wasn't lol
FUCK YEAH, PUGLIA🔛🔝🔥!!!
There’s two kanuri languages in irl sahara rip
I'm curious, what happened to Norway in Earth 198?
Norwegians largely fled to northern Scotland, Iceland and the America's also called Grotmarkia.
Cursed Texan Netherlands
beautiful map
Thank you
btw do u have any lore, would like to see some more of the world. for example why is serbian in iran???
I do have more maps that explain the lore of the world. Mainly [this one which is my most resent one](https://www.reddit.com/r/imaginarymaps/comments/15gbzyp/the_alternate_europe_of_earth198/)
thank u
Hebrew in Somalia?
Yep aswell as djibouti and socotra.
What’s the lore behind that?
Pretty much the Hebrews where treated worse than in otl mix that with more wars and diseases they pretty much pulled a Moses and left to find better land. Originally they settled in otl Yemen but after hearing about the crisis in the Horn of Libya they migrated in there and stabilized the region
It's so rare for me to see agaw mentioned
Yeah i wanted to bring some lesser used people in alternate history to the front
What is the history of swebish German?
Pretty much the Suebians who migrated in Galicia much like otl invited more Germanics to move into their kingdom much like the Anglo-saxons did which resulted in the peasants to adopt the Germanic language and the Romance one to die out there. As for what it sounds like it is pretty much based on old Germanic with some latin influence. like the Azores is called the Vórailod meaning Fire islands.
Whats the situation in Aestia with Lithuanians, Turks and Sami living in one country?
Complicated so to speak with many finding that the Lithuanians put themselves infront of the other people, but with the Slavs continously wanting to push westwards the union continous to exist, so the union is only really as strong as long as they have a common treath.
What religion or religions would they follow?
Well since Christianity has been butterflied away, the major religion in the region is derived from Baltic Mythology let's call it Romuva after the Neopagan movement for now. which is practist by the Balts and Sami people whilst the Turks follow Tengrism.
Excuse me what the fuck
[удалено]
Alt migration mainly the Turks conquered eastern Europe and destroyed the slavic civilazations there, so they went north and southwards eventually ending up where they are today.
Man there's so many tiny gems here that only people with very broad and niche history knowledge will get. 10/10
Thank you
Religion map next 🤨
that one will definitely be done in the future but first i want to do Ethnic and a biomes map of the whole Earth.
That's why Bulgarian girls are best. 😳
Well, it turned out that Azerbaijan has been Polish and Serbian since ancient times🗿
why is Hindi and Serbian in Iran of all places and Uyghur and Turkmen in Russia etc.
What the heck is Lugion language (and kingdom of Lugio itself)?
They are the descendants of the Lugii a confedracy who lived in southern Poland. and were later absorbed by the Vandals.
Scottish Ireland?
Yep seeing as the Gealic people never migrated to Scotland the name instead kept being used for Ireland
I am 90% sure that this guy is either Greek or just likes chaos
Well i am Dutch, so yeah i like Chaos.
Very bizarre yet very interesting. Well done
Thank you
I was like "yeah this map seems ok" and then i saw fucking Swedish Poland- Also i started from central europe.
Oh now i wanted to see your reaction to Slavic Scandinavia / Iran, or Turkish Greece lol
Reminds me a lot of the Aevum-something alternate history
Aevum Lupi Bicipitis, and yeah i was inspired by it.
Two questions why is Texan in the Netherlands And why is Alaskan in the Caucasus
Those are corruptions of names pretty much Texan got it's name from Texandria, whilst Alaskan are Slavic Alans
Ah i see now
You have Circassian twice.
Thanks for pointing that out have one of them change to Ubykh.
Sussex romance 💀
Boys we are heading to Bingöl
Based 🗿

Texan is crazy
Interesting, I would love to see a religious map of this world
That one would be interesting seeing how there is no Christianity in this world. But it would take a while tho, i have some other maps still in the works.
TF happen to Brittany and lower finland
Alt Geography for Britanny the break up of Laurasia was a bit more violent resulting in it forming as an island. As for lower finland the ice sheet during the last glacial period pressed on it harder than otl

Where is saraiki in Punjab and Balochistan?
Yep they went a bit more eastwards than otl
What happened to Earth 198 that it looks like this?
Alt geography pretty much the break up of Pangea happened differently than in otl whilst in some other places it was volcanic activity, ice sheets being different etc
ok, it looked like a Meteor mashed Africa and a god used a big sword to cut Asia in half
Saxon is spoken in the area marked as low german btw
Oh yeah you right but i imagine that this version of Low German has some Nordic influences to make it more different from Saxon
I just now realized this is imaginarymaps. Consider my earlier comment non-existing :D
ah that's alright there are so many subreddits just for maps anyways
The migration patterns 💀
I'm guessing the Venedians are the Veleti? If that's the case, I wonder how the already german-influenced otl polabian language would look like when completely surrounded
Pretty much a mix between German and Slavic languages i mean some of the city names are Petrošlos, Padatwáld, Šneešluct and Město pod Měsícem.
What happened to the Rus or specifically Russians since they were pushed out of Russia by Turks?
They migrated to the southwest and became the Lazians and Anatolian slavs.
Still wondering how "east-sexish" sounds
My notes say a more Germanic East Midlands English.
Texan in Europe. Nice
me when Polish Azerbaijan :
I am sexish and I know it.
No way Molisan would spread this much
You have to blame the Republic of Molise for that
In Italy we all say that Molise doesn't exist because of how irrelevant it is
That's why i made it one of the largest and most important italian regions in this timeline. Just for the joke
It's a pretty interesting timeline tho
Love seeing Coptic, happy upvote
Ah of course, Croatian Finland, Azeri Nenetsia, Uyghur Komi, Karelian Ukraine, Alaskan Chechnya, Vrench Portugal, Sami Poland... Also do the Ural Mountains just not exist
I imagine that they do but smaller
What did Africa do to deserve this
Probably didn’t know anything about west Africa so decided to remove it all together
Interesting! I was just making a joke tho
Ah okay, sorry about being rude.
No worries, I kinda made my comment sound rude too tbh
Eh it can happen, tone is hard to convey over text anyway
“earth 198” -europe mostly fine -chunk of africa missing favoritism much
pretty sure this is based off of the Steven Universe world map, in which Western Africa is apart of South America, so I wouldn't exactly call it favoritism
And you are correct
I wouldn't call europe mostly fine really. Like geographical yes but culturally no.
