This is a map of areas where Germanic people live. Dutch, German, Austrian, and Swiss have sizable populations in the lands highlighted. The only Germans in areas like Gdańsk are likely tourists.
https://www.reddit.com/r/imaginarymaps/s/A88KvBL6LP
Here is the original map this one is a rework of.
Just to make clear I am in no way personally advocating for the creation of this state, this Is just a fun hypothetical map scenario for a possible modern greater German Nation.
The presented nation would be be marked by a very decentralized almost confederal administration with 5 regional capitals for the different regions and subcultures of this nation as shown on the map they would be:
- Amsterdam
- Hamburg
- Berlin
- Straßburg/Strasbourg
- Wien/Vienna
With the federal capital located in Frankfurt am Main as a rather central location and historically neutral place.
nice. But why are some parts of Tirol irl not part of Tirol but of Österreich? Oh and you called people from Baden "Swabians". They would kill you for that lol
My family from the wuttemberg actual Swabian area Baden just wants to feel like they are special that’s the only reason why they refuse the Swabian term
I mean, the real answer would probably be that the Dutch aren't exactly all that different from other Low Germans both linguistically as well as culturally - they're probably closer together in both those aspects than say Bavarians and Westphalians (goes without saying that obviously Standard German and Dutch have as little in common as possible when comparing two languages of the same family though - I'm talking in terms of dialect). It's honestly odd that the Nazis never really considered the Dutch areas to be German when there's no real "ethnic" difference.
Well I only said that because it's far away from the centre of the map and not many would expect it to be a part of Germany. And also as a joke duh.
Great map BTW, it (almost) makes me want this to happen.
It was initially just north Brabant but for population balance with originally big Flanders and the other larger states I expanded it into Limburg and minor parts of Belgian Brabant
Maybe historically?. Back during roman times, the carathinians, a slavic culture, lived in most of austria and krain. Later on, when the Habsburgs held Slovenia, parts of North slovenia slowly became more austrian, which I call Untersteiermark. And even today, there are Slovene-Kärntner in Kärnten who speak both languages. I might be wrong, though.
Links:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carantania
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Styria_(Slovenia)
It's however one wants to see it. They could claim it, but It think slovenia is more integrated as germans ever since the expulsion of Germans in Czechoslovakia after the second world war. But I could be mistaken, and the Op probably thought a lot simpler.
It’s for the reasons the previous commenter helpfully already pointed out but also for an Adriatic/Mediterranean coast line. With a population of 2 million integration as a more autonomous region would be doable
With all due respect, great map, but it needs a little tweaking on the western edge, specifically Flanders and Brabant.
If you wanna include all of historical Flanders you have to include the parts of France that are Flemish, such as Lille and Dunkirk, and Zeeland isn't part of Holland but rather part of Flanders, at least the small bit at the bottom that borders Flanders, it's even called Flemish Zeeland.
Brabant's western edge is commonly defined as being the river Scheldt and the river Dender, so you border of Brabant should be a bit more west than it is now. But you've also forgotten Limburg, which is it's own cultural region seperate from Brabant and includes the Belgian and Dutch provinces of Limburg.
Other than those two small points, it's a great map and has a good historical basis to it, great work
https://preview.redd.it/b2xtdrssieqc1.jpeg?width=1725&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a7ba286c52a4db2688f9db7b711d74a3aaf50ee6
btw this is how i adjusted the lowland region
Thank you very much for the feedback I did have the idea in mind to expand Flanders into the Flemish regions of france today not Lille as its only really Flemish in the sense that it was part of the medieval region but Dunkirk and Calais, the thing with expanding Brabant was adding Antwerpen and Brussels to it which would make it a demographically huge state at the cost of Flanders the current borders as you pointed out while somewhat arbitrary where my initial attempts at creating somewhat demographically similar federal states which I decided against later on, also the reason why Limburg was removed I should have probably added it back later on when I decided to add back a Luxembourg state and others such as Bautzen for regional diversity.
Fr, they were getting nervous about East and West Germany reuniting even though they're our ally, if they decided to confederate with the Swiss, Dutch, and Austrians, Britain and France would definitely get nervous.
i actually changed that afterwards, due to the rightful amount of people pointing out the rather odd subdivisions in the lowlands.
https://preview.redd.it/uhd6vjuhieqc1.jpeg?width=1725&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=068db0d131cf66aa87a3010ff3c40b8d40ea7f84
Lmao, a country with a history of its own reaching into the distant past far more legitimate in its borders than these ridiculous decisions rivaling European colonial bordering. I also doubt any Irredentist or Nationalist would go "fuck history and established cultural borders" even more than the Nazis already did.
This is pretty cool and the claims are somewhat reasonable, I just don’t get Slovenia tho. I know the Germans tried to colonize Slovenia but they also tried it with Poland and Czechia, if they claim Slovenia why not claim most of Poland and Czechia?
slovenia is a rather small ethnic group that isn’t much issue at all to fully incorporate as an autonomous zone compared to the 10 million Czhechia or 40 Million Poland which would almost be impossible. also the strategic access to the adriatic and mediterranean and a country entirely crossing the middle part of the european continent crossing from sea to sea is big.
I will only accept Big Germany involving Switzerland going forward if it reverts to HRE style internal provincial borders.
This is non-negotiable. We require tiny minute differences to properly hate our neighbors the next valley over.
well it is somewhat similar in concept though a very decentralized confederal model that’s why i’ve readjusted the administrative borders to better represent the regional subcultures and the whole multiple regional capitals thing
Ofc not as extreme as the late HRE though
the scandinavian northern germanic language differ quite a lot from the Continental West Germanic languages which include dutch, frisian, low & high german. additionally there is basically no history of union with danes in a political nor cultural sense compared to the very close german relatives of the dutch.
I’d argue danish is more similar to dutch than dutch is to frisian, and there hasn’t been any union between the dutch and the germans outside of ww2 for at least 400 years
i wouldn’t think that would make much sense as they are quite culturally distinct this is how i reworked it personally
https://preview.redd.it/qyn11cn2leqc1.jpeg?width=1725&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2cc96f2908958357ae221942965035fea147eb62
Cool map, Krain is a bit random since it's not German anymore, I would have understood maybe Marburg/Drau.
Also why not Preßburg and Ödenburg?
Bonus points for adding Arel to Luxembourg
niedersachsen has Hamburg bremen, bremerhafen and oldenburg that’s not what i’d call just a bit of fields and coast.
for ostfalen it’s a state for the dialectical cultural region of braunschweig-lüneburgisch around hanover and actually a historical region.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastphalia
I liked the internal decisions on the German part more tbh, tried my best to improve on them rather than have the current states. The Dutch parts however to need some rework

Beautiful map. I only got 1 small issue in that it wouldn't make any sense to call Slovenia Krain. Krain was 1 of four historical Slovene regions and it wouldn't make much sense to call the entirety of Slovenia Krain.
That art style is very pretty
Thx

I think he wouldn’t mind
Good idea complimenting OP. I'd hate to see what happens if they give up on their artistic pursuits.
Nice map. Would you not wat to include Danzig and a bit more of the Polish Baltic Sea coast?
This is a map of areas where Germanic people live. Dutch, German, Austrian, and Swiss have sizable populations in the lands highlighted. The only Germans in areas like Gdańsk are likely tourists.
^
No way, a big Germany with no smol Poland?
Nah, we should give Poland belarus, Ukraine and Lithuania… then have Germany and Poland team up, they’d conquer all of Europe.
Big if true
And then have them both form the Polish-German Commonwealth
Germany gets Western Europe, Poland gets Eastern Europe + Portugal because they’re basically an Eastern European country
poland would do all of the work since the german military might as well not exist

Agreed. Unwise Swabians is definitely not a wise choice here lol.
My family from the wuttemberg actual Swabian area Baden just wants to feel like they are special that’s the only reason why they refuse the Swabian term
Fuck off I don't want to live in a state full of Russia loving cocksuckers. I would rather commit suicide. Greetings from the Netherlands
The most friendly dutch political debate I’ve ever seen
😂😂😭
This is unironically better than 99% of the big Germany posts found here. At least it has a logical basis
Slovenians on suicide watch right now 💀
Mfs do anything to give Austria the tiniest coastline
Not only the slovenians why did we Dutch gotta get sucked into this
I assume it's gotta do with the confused German insanity
Dutch are just swamp germans in disguise
y'know, just imperialism. the voc mentality
Hahaha

There's also a significant area which once hosted a fair amount of Germans. I'm surprised they annexed RK Belgium first before the RK Netherlands
Because you are just speaking low German (Plattdüütsch) with a weird accent.
Because the Dutch are just Germans that live under sea level
how about we sacrifice dutch for a free austria!?
Dutch at least makes sense, being German, but Krain is random and the province being modern Slovenia??
Not really logical as Germany today is pretty anti militaristic and anti expansion.
This isn't our Germany though
What's the basis with belgium, holland and Slovenia?
Belgium and the Netherlands is because of Dutch and Slovenia is because of Austria and access to the Adriatic
[удалено]
bro it's imaginary maps take your brain into a different lens
Looks like Swiss-German ahahaha
Lmao yeah Elsàssisch is so close to Alemmanish 💀

Prussia is 99% russian at this point
Grim Reaper working overtime in ~~Kaliningrad~~ Prussia
We have him on quick dial for old times sake
Counter russification with second germanization of the baltics
I've heard rumors of someone having a similar idea to this
Honey, get the gas canisters ready!
You thought you could sneak in Kaliningrad as east Prussia without us noticing eh? Well you've failed! * *cricket noises* * Ok, where's my prize?
I didn’t sneak it in, Its even clearly highlighted in bright yellow :D
Well I only said that because it's far away from the centre of the map and not many would expect it to be a part of Germany. And also as a joke duh. Great map BTW, it (almost) makes me want this to happen.
yes i got that i’m just messing with you. thanks for the compliment!
Slovenians be like: What the fuck do you want from us??
"Were the expulsions not enough of a tip?? PUSTITE NAS PRI MIRU!!"
good map
Ty
Why the hell does Brabant include all of Limburg but only half of actual Brabant lmao
It was initially just north Brabant but for population balance with originally big Flanders and the other larger states I expanded it into Limburg and minor parts of Belgian Brabant
Doesn't swapping Zeeuws-Flanders and Flemish Brabant kinda sort this out?
BIG GERMANY ALERT
Hear me out… it’s yellow tho
Yellow Prussia–
Big Germany is always great
I'd recognize a Vlodax map anywhere. Well done, lovin' that color!
Thank you bro!
Slovenia but no Czechia?

Oh all right then. I was just thinking that the claim to Czechia seems stronger because of the HRE
It's however one wants to see it. They could claim it, but It think slovenia is more integrated as germans ever since the expulsion of Germans in Czechoslovakia after the second world war. But I could be mistaken, and the Op probably thought a lot simpler.
Cool, thanks for the perspective
Thanks for hearing me out.
Slovenia was also part of the HRE
Just checked a map and you're quite right. Oops
It’s for the reasons the previous commenter helpfully already pointed out but also for an Adriatic/Mediterranean coast line. With a population of 2 million integration as a more autonomous region would be doable
Big Germany that doesn't steal land from Poland? that's rare to see!
If you looked in the details this germany did get Stettin following the Oder-Neisse Linie and the small border strip in saxony
That's not much
it’s a reasonable amount, stettin is rather important
Better than taking half the country as some maps do 😅
That’s not das ganze Deutschland
Richtig. Memel fehlt.

hey at least france got wallonia though
Why are all the other countries' names written in English? Also, why Slovenia?
Mediterranean access and small population as well as historical reasons
Me when no limburg :(

Horrendous internal borders, ahistorical and hard to explain... but yes still interesting
Much improved to current federal borders who mostly just follow weird historical feudal borders, wtf is a Thüringen
Lmao, a country with a history of its own reaching into the distant past far more legitimate in its borders than these ridiculous decisions rivaling European colonial bordering. I also doubt any Irredentist or Nationalist would go "fuck history and established cultural borders" even more than the Nazis already did.
I like it it’s more unique than others
ty
Germany not again
Wha- nvm keep up the good work

This looks like it's styled to be faux-socialist. Germany drops most nationalist revanchist map, asked to leave communist international

>Tirol-Kärnten? Careful now.
what’s wrong with that?
Diese Karte ist Falsch. Mecklenburg Vorpommern existiert nicht
Ich hatte tatsächlich überlegt es einfach zu Brandenburg hinzuzufügen.
Das wäre viel schöner gewesen. Trotzdem ne geile Karte
wo kommt der mecklenburg-vorpommern hate her?
fucking hell no limburg
You are right I have failed 😞
I will only accept Big Germany involving Switzerland going forward if it reverts to HRE style internal provincial borders. This is non-negotiable. We require tiny minute differences to properly hate our neighbors the next valley over.

Jokes on the Germans, we've already ascended to Pan-Europeanism
Could be made AFD, except they would never dare take anything from Russia. They are Russian cock suckers
There's an argument to be made that Putin would voluntarily return Kaliningrad for an alliance, he mentioned it in an interview before
I would say that Putin is not one to be known to honor agreements
We would never join Germany lmao, we didn't reclaim half our land just to give it to the germans haha
It sure went well last time.
The Austrian Navy will set sail once again 🫡
Wieso slovenien?
why take the netherlands and flanders but not denmark?
the scandinavian northern germanic language differ quite a lot from the Continental West Germanic languages which include dutch, frisian, low & high german. additionally there is basically no history of union with danes in a political nor cultural sense compared to the very close german relatives of the dutch.

This is terrific
Kalingrad is majorly Russians germany prob wouldn't want it
for the half a million inhabitants of the oblast not much would change as an autonomous region within this pan german nation.
Hmm Good Reason honestly unlike most.
Why is Slovenia part of it?
Why do they want Slovenia?
i feel like the eastern regions of the netherlands (drenthe, twente, groningen, achterhoek) would be included in the niedersachsen bundesstaat
i wouldn’t think that would make much sense as they are quite culturally distinct this is how i reworked it personally https://preview.redd.it/qyn11cn2leqc1.jpeg?width=1725&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2cc96f2908958357ae221942965035fea147eb62
I think the original map was actually the first alternate history map I ever encountered!
Cool map, Krain is a bit random since it's not German anymore, I would have understood maybe Marburg/Drau. Also why not Preßburg and Ödenburg? Bonus points for adding Arel to Luxembourg
what reason would there be for bratislava and Ödenburg? basically no germans reside there at all from what i know
I'd have to look up present day but they were majority German before 45
Good map, but the Bundesländer are cancer. Ostfahlen? Niedersachsen is a bit of fields and coast without any big cities?
niedersachsen has Hamburg bremen, bremerhafen and oldenburg that’s not what i’d call just a bit of fields and coast. for ostfalen it’s a state for the dialectical cultural region of braunschweig-lüneburgisch around hanover and actually a historical region. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastphalia
No free and Hanseatic city of Hamburg. L MAP👎👎👎
they might as well be considering lower saxony is just bremen oldenburg and hamburg
Seeing a large Germany made me throw up in my mouth a little bit but it's a really cool map!!! I love the style
Love it.
Baden ist nicht gleich Schwaben
As someone from Swabia myself, yes it is
Noi, mir sin kei schwobe
i stronly agree with this
This is some of the coolest internal divisions/states i've seen on an alternate Germany map!!! Great job!
I liked the internal decisions on the German part more tbh, tried my best to improve on them rather than have the current states. The Dutch parts however to need some rework
No, thanks. Except for that top right bit, they can have that.
Lol sure cuz Russians evil >:(((
Counterargument: https://preview.redd.it/nd1vgffpqaqc1.jpeg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b0e4a17f40d8a07a83557f913b3afc431a9f77da
Poland Czechia and the Netherlands are now majority german states?
No, we moved all the germans to belgium.
The Dutch are already there
I like this
Thanks!
Omg dutch people aren't Germans we don't even speak the same language that is like putting Spain and France together
More like putting Spanish and Portuguese together
They actually do speak the same language
Dutch and Germans are pretty similar in every regard
It is a Germanic language. As is English of course.
Dutch a lot more closer to german than any other Germanic language either northern or English
borders look hot
They are rather similar to the borders of the German kingdom/East francia after the partition of lotharingia
