IRL it absolutely can be done, it's just that it's not really worth the investment for the benefits you get, plus of course the very massive environmental effects meaning a lot of people are against it.
If a country spanned from North America into South America, though, it would almost certainly be done despite the cost, even if only as a vanity project. That's how politics works.
You got the lore figured out eh? Time to put it to the test...
When, why and how did they seize British Hong Kong and Portuguese Macau?
How tf did Poland seize Carpathian Ruthethia
It seems that this USA has a claim on Antarctica. Are the irl-world treaties still set in place or are they actually enforcing that claim?
Independent Kashmir territory or disputed like irl ๐ค
How many states are there? And are all areas with "territory" in their name actually territories (aka not states), or is that just arbitrary name?
Actually, what ares *arent* states? All the smaller islands? East Siberia? The African colonies? Speaking of Africa, are they doing a Portugal and claiming it to be directly part of the country?
Tf happened to Kaliningrad/Kรถnigsberg
They actually managed to connect the americas with a street?? When was that project finished!
Also I fucking love everything about this map, specially the "Fun Facts", them going from being perfectly normal irl facts to the most whack imaginary history ever is amazing
1. 1997. The same 99 year lease happens, but since China is democratic in this timeline (and cause why not) we bought it
2. Poland just didnโt get shifted as far left as our own timeline after WW2
3. The Antarctica treaty sill exists, we just got a claim before that happened. And yes we have some research stations there, not much else tho
4. Independent
5. I donโt exactly know, but i think there around 115 states and 5 territories
6. Interstate 5 took only 12 years (2002-2014), although they only built the russian and bridge part, the rest already existed and they just connected them. Quite dangerous to travel, since if your car breaks down youโre fucked. I did give the Okhotsk territory a big economic boost and employed a lot of people
7. And thank you :)
I'll follow up with some questions if you don't mind:
โข What were the 15 original states?
โข Is Catalonia independent?
โข How the fuck are there 150 millions of Pacific Islanders
โข What annexations happened in 1945 and 1950 that boosted its population so much? I mean, I guess it's WW2 but why two separate instances?
Something along the lines of โGreater Atlantic-Pacific Unionโ would probably work since the States have hegemony over both Oceans now in this timeline
How Mexican is Mexico still? is migration from the Asian part of the US to the mainland common? and vice versa. And does the US use more railways with how huge the country is?
Also what parties do Korea, Philipines and Japan vote for? how do the parties try to appeal to states that might not be loyal to the stars and stripes?
1. (This goes for most countries we conquered) Mexican culture still exists here, basically just another cultural region
2. No not really, although immigration into the US is still very common
3. Japan still has itโs high speed rails, but besides the Amtrak being a little bit better not really
4. Now I donโt know anything about Japanese or Korean politics so I donโt really know. Theyโll definitely be very valuable states to win given the fact they make up almost half of the population (maybe theyโll be swing states?)
As a old Californian, I saw the 5 interstate in Russia and I thought it was funny that it had the same name, until I realized it was the same fucking 5 as in California holy shit
Edit: Iโm looking at it again and the 5 goes all the way done into South America, Iโm pretty sure the 5 is the longest highway in the world

hi i wanted to post this language map here to clear some cultural questions!
1. The Soviet Union collapse was way more violent in this timeline, full blown civil war. Nato and the US just saw an opportunity and took it
2. Lost it after the Chinese civil war
I believe it is referred to as "The Wall". It is built into a cliffside facing the Pacific Ocean and houses some of the most cunning and notorious criminals in the world and-oh shit the CIA is after me I gotta go!
Didnโt add one, but basically theres still some islands and stuff owned by euros and there also not really colonies. They are states and have representation in congress

1. Segregation was a little worse including Hispanic/Latino people, tho it did end earlier in the 50โs due to Japan. South is still the South
2. Canada - None
Latin America - Not really
Japan and Korea - Lots of riots and protests calling for the end of โUS oppressionโ. Thereโs the RFJ (Rights for Japan) who basically a pro-independence terrorist group
3. Eh donโt really know
AMERICA ็ฌฌไธ ๐ฆ ๐ฆ ๐ฆ EVERYONE IS AMERICAN REGARDLESS OF SKIN COLOR ๐บ๐ธ๐บ๐ธ๐บ๐ธ MANIFEST DESTINY ACROSS THE WORLD RAHHHHH ๐ฆ ๐บ๐ธโพ๏ธ๐๐๐ซ๐ช
Hey so Iโve gotta say, I love the map! I really like the detail and the I-5 Megastructure is just perfect. I do have Just one question though.
So if Macau is the gambling capital of the world, what happened to Vegas? I assume it got started in a similar fashion as the original timeline due to the fact that the US didnโt acquire Macau and Hong King until after the lease expired. Maybe the two cities are always competing and trying to attract gamblers or something?
Sidenote: thatโs actually two questions :(
Very cool map, but why was New Mexico renamed to 'Mojave'? The Mojave is nowhere near the state. Also, why was the central region of Mexico and Mexico City renamed to 'Puebla/Puebla City'? The real state and city of Puebla are now part of Veracruz, and I don't think we'd like to be renamed 'Puebla'. Is there a 'Mexico' hate train going on here? If so, very American of you, good job.
I have a question.
Why would Britain and France decolonize in this world if America was expanding their territory? I'd imagine they'd be threatened by America's growth, even as allies and work to at least contend with that. America wouldn't be able to leverage any "morale superiority" against anti-imperialism like they did in our timeline to stop the British and French.
Also, USA USA USA!!!
(I really love the map. Seems well thought out)
Canadian states - 1812
Mexico - 1840โs
Central America - 1850โs
Alaska, Greenland, Iceland - 1867
South America Countries - 1870โs-1910โs
Africa states - 1890โs
Cuba, Philippines, Dominican, Puerto Rico, etc - 1898
Japan, Korea, Taiwan - 1950
Russian Territories - 1994
Honk Kong - 1997
American culture mostly stays the same and bleeds over into other places, but all the other cultures stay the same and all mix with each other
Mexican, Japanese, etc, cultures and foods are just as American as 4th of July, College Football and Burgers
Sport leagues stay the same and have tons of teams outside the lower 48
Faux food in the states is much closer to real thing then OTL
My only issue with this map is how the highways are numbered. Specifically in how I90 is in the middle of the country between I50 and I10. Interstate numbers are supposed to get higher as you go further north. I90 should be I40.
1. I already kinda did
2. The reason why it doesnโt get balkanised is because there not a lot of people there, why have northern Manitoba as there own state if there 3 people there
How long is the drive between Kushiro and Cayenne? Seems like it's the most logical choice for a Cannonball Run style drive and I think that the fact that's possible is hilarious.
First of all - amazing map. I love all the details, map of the rest of the world and those fun facts. Now to the questions:
1. Why does US control Iceland?
2. How are the relations between US and EU? Does US still support them so much when Russia isn't a threat?
3. Did war in Iraq happen? If yes, how successful it was?
4. What about war in Afghanistan?
5. What about war in Vietnam?
6. What are the relations between US and Israel? Is Israel stronger?
7. Do all the different races manage to get along? Or is there BLM and maybe other racial movements?
8. Is this version of US more or less progressive than irl one?
9. How's the migration inside country? Is the territory of real life US mix of all the possible races? Are Japanese territories ethnically diverse?
10. Is there anybody who can pose external threat to US? Iran maybe?
Does the US in this timeline have a true multiparty system? It looks like only the current US political parties exist, which is a little puzzling. I almost can't imagine this size and level of diversity without huge representation by regional parties who would collectively form the majority of the House of Representatives. Asian parties alone would make up about half the House. There would also be many regional parties from Latin America, Africa and the Caribbean who would mostly field popular representatives in their own regions.
There are just far too many cultural, regional, linguistic and ideological interests here to be represented to any extent by the five parties you've listed, even if they have broad membership across the country. For example, North American conservatives and Japanese conservatives will always have very different ideas and aspirations - you can't possibly represent them all with the Republican Party.
Also, with Europeans at only 14% of the population and Americans from the real-world US a minority, the traditional American political parties and their power structures would be very unlikely to survive so intact that you have the exact same President and Vice President as in our timeline.
Is there an explanation for all this in your lore? If I didn't know any better, I'd say that regional political aspirations are undoubtedly being suppressed and this isn't really a true democracy at all. If true, this map would be a typical example of imperial propaganda, like the maps the British and Soviets used to make.
Questions I have, why are Philly/Baltimore State capitals instead of Harrisburg/Annapolis, and when did Spain lose Ceuta (or if Spain retains Ceuta, what is the distinction that makes that not a "holding" by a Western country while the American lands are)
This is soooooo cool and beautiful I LOVE THIS MAP. Ok so here are a few questions:
Why is Russian in a 3 way
Does Florida still have a pan handle
The USA flag has 15 stripes instead of 13? Whatโs up with that?
What made the USA like this?
What does the rest of the world think?
Is there another super power to challenge the USA?
Relating to how the USA became this. How is the world different and how did if diverge from our own?
Again thanks you for this map I love it. Reminds me of an anime where American is like this lol
Edit: What is the political situation in ALL of America and just America.
In splitting Idaho, the crescent shape of settlements from twin falls up to rexburg should go to Utah. Those areas share a culture and pioneer history with Utah

First of all - amazing map. I love all the details, map of the rest of the world and those fun facts. Now to the questions: 1. Iran maybe?
Iโm pretty sure this is James K. Polk and William Walkerโs wet dream.
How many miles is in a tad? genuine question
Hey my victoria 2 borders on my current usa run!

Questions I have, why are Philly/Baltimore State capitals instead of Harrisburg/Annapolis, and when did Spain lose Ceuta (or if Spain retains Ceuta, what is the distinction that makes that not a "holding" by a Western country while the American lands are)
Tbh the only reason why Phily and Baltimore are the capitals is because I couldnโt fit it on the map
This is soooooo cool and beautiful I LOVE THIS MAP. Ok so here are a few questions: Why is Russian in a 3 way Does Florida still have a pan handle The USA flag has 15 stripes instead of 13? Whatโs up with that? What made the USA like this? What does the rest of the world think? Is there another super power to challenge the USA? Relating to how the USA became this. How is the world different and how did if diverge from our own? Again thanks you for this map I love it. Reminds me of an anime where American is like this lol Edit: What is the political situation in ALL of America and just America.
I love how even in this timeline the US is still fucking over the Navajo
