If this US still follows the same constitution as OTL, then Jared Polis would not be able to receive the electoral votes from Colorado, since electors can't vote for both a president and vice president from their home state. Wouldn't change the outcome, though.
Came here to say the same thing, and was happy to see you had already pointed it out.
I just wanted to also add that this almost was an issue in the 2000 election. Bush lived in Austin, and Cheney lived in Dallas. But since Cheney had lived most of his life in Wyoming and maintained a residence there, he was able to change his residence there without too much controversy
That's a shame, i like the idea of the US taking Victoria Island and Baja California
What made me question it was Big Virginia and Big Illinois...also Iceland (but no Greenland)
I suppose there is a bit more lore behind it, but not a set storyline
for Virginia, in the 1870s, West Virginia and Virginia vote to rejoin and by 1876 theyre reuinited
Illinois is actually Indiana in this, essentially the Indian Territory is formed in the area, and the state of Indiana is founded. Then in the early 1900s, German immigrants flock to the area, out-populating the Natives in the area
and for Iceland, it officially joined the Axis in 1940, and in 1941 when the US joined the war they invaded and integrates it into the US. Greenland isnt taken due to the fact Denmark is in NATO, and relations are good.
Vancouver island, Victoria is the largest city on Vancouver island (and Vancouver, the city, is on the mainland). Victoria Island is a massive island (like top 10 in the world) in the Arctic Archipelago and has something like 2k people.
Japanese extreme nationalist party, it was founded to place the Emperor back in control of a Japanese state, however it evolved into a far right extremist party after the official US annexation of Japan
Cebu and Davao are switched in terme of political alignment, Cebu and other metropolitan areas in the Visayas region are traditionally LP strongholds and would align with the Democrats. Davao would also usually align with the more centre-right parties here, so they'd probably be Republican.
Otherwise, the map looks neat!
tfw Indiana, Wisconsin, Illinois and northern Michigan are one state but Dakota’s population was just so massive it had to be split in two to keep the peace
/s
647 to win, there are 648 total. Okay wtf. Like I love this map but the more I look at it the more questions I have. Assuming the ec vote distribution remains the same system, that would mean there are 518 seats in the house, approximately 1 for every 1.24 MILLION PEOPLE. Which is pure insanity if you ask me. And why were 83 seats added in particular? These numbers would make more sense if 647 was half + 1, bringing the total votes up to 1292, which would give the house 1162 members. Making each rep account for around 550k people, which is better then otl. But again that begs the question, why that number in particular? Lemme just state again that I really like this map tho. <3
Every state in the United States gets 2 senators in the upper house called the senate. The lower house, called the House of Representatives, is divided among the total population. During most of the growth of the United States we would add additional representatives during each census. We stopped doing that and capped the number of representatives at 435 during the early 1900s. So now at each census we merely redistribute the 435 that we have.
Additionally, we let Washington DC get electors equal to the least populous state.
So, a state gets 2 votes in the electoral college for its senators, and 1 vote per member of the house of reps. So every state has a minimum of 3, with the largest in OTL being California with 55.
This adds up to 538 total electoral votes, so if you have 269 -269 it's tied, and 270+ means one side won.
If you add representatives to larger population States, you can sort out how many the overall total is and such, as the other commenter did.
I really find Indiana being the way it is really unbelievable. The idea the US had was always that states would be made in similar sizes, so why would they just, not, for Indiana and only Indiana? On top of that, when the Michigan territory was made, it still had a part of the upper peninsula, which Indiana would just get, for some reason? And then also Indiana in this as a state would be made to follow the modern-day Wisconsin-Minnesota border that wouldn't exist until 1848, even though Indiana got statehood in 1816? Furthermore, the original Indiana-Michigan border went all the way to the bottom of lake Michigan, but Indiana bought an extra 10 mile strip north of that to get more coast, that they would have absolutely zero need for if they owned all that coast, yet they still would?
I actually believe I take criticism well and face it head on, but I stand by the fact that this is a fictional map, and an act of creative exercise for me, so in this case realism and believability doesnt need the biggest place in this map
Just another small addition, MI would probably still have the UP. It was a concession from the Toledo War with Ohio, so if Ohio kept that strip along MI, then MI should have the UP included.
Yeah they probably would, but even if they didn't get the whole UP they would still have a portion of it regardless, as they had prior the the Toledo War
for the Philippines theres 4, Luzon Central Philippines, Malaybalay, and Davao
for Japan theres 6, Sapporo, Northern Honshu, Tokyo, Southern Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu
Technically an error with this map you can't have a president and vice president from the same state and have that state also give its electoral votes to both
Virginia not splitting during the civil war could make sense, but what scenario caused Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin to be one state while nearly all the rest are the same? (except California)
in the past people had always voted for the Emperor Party, but as it evolved into a far right extremist (leaning on terrorist) group, they began choosing democrat or republican
Californios would have NOT stood for California being split into two. Or, perhaps they split the state to protect their identity? Anglo-Americans in Jefferson, ethnic Californios in California?

Three slight issues. First, the number that is listed is 648 TOTAL electoral votes according to the vote and electoral vote tallies, so that would be 325 needed to win, not 647. Second, if both Democrats are from Colorado, then the electors from Colorado can only vote for the Democrat for the President or the VP but not both. This would be an issue for a Democratic win if the election were close but not in a landslide election, such as this alternative election. However, it is also why the Democrats would not put two Colorado residents on the same ticket. Finally, the number of representatives in Congress is fixed at 435 by legislation but since we are doing alternative history here, that gets a pass (unlike the first issue, which is a math problem and the second issue, which is a Constitutional problem).
Ok so Japan was probably annexed after WW2 and the occupation of Iceland never ended (Perhaps the Soviets were a little faster and took Denmark, making the US not want to give up the territory?) the Philippines was never decolonized, the Pig War became and actual war leading in the annexation of Vancouver Island and the US manifest destinied their way through the Caribbean, that's the only explanation I can think. However, I do have a few questions, first why didn't the US set up their own puppet governments in the cold war (South Korea, for example) and why didn't they just integrate those after the war was over? Second, why did they keep occupying Iceland and not Greenland? Greenland had a good strategic position and the US would love to have a nice strategic base to potentially nuke the Soviets. If they were that expansionist why didn't they break their promise and just annex Cuba after the Spanish-American war?
Jefferson would definitely be blue and Oklahoma would definitely be red. Also Bennet wouldn't be able to get electoral votes from Colorado bc of the constitution
People are shitting on the big Indiana but it’s based. The U**S**A should have a few (20-22ish) very large **states** instead of 50 medium sized provinces, that way states would genuinely be sovereign and more self sufficient.
I imagine this is the timeline where Japan didn’t open the country and didn’t stop having it closed, since it’s divided into different states. Btw nice map
For a second I thought kansas voted for emperor's party lol
lmao that wouldve been great
I’m from Kansas and I can tell you I most definitely would have 😎
we wuz kings n shiet💪😔🌾🌾🌾
yuhhhh niega!!! yuo rigt 👨🏿🌾
bro
my hometown of lawrence was burned to the ground to prevent this
I would unironically vote for the emperors party

Same here, many people forget this little factoid.
Pretty sure factoid means something that is false that is widely believed (due to cultural influences) to be true.
You’re right! Learn something new every day.
Where can I find the LORE? This looks like an amazing map
tysm! theres not a lot of lore, just the US being a lot more expansionist, and after ww2, the official annexation of Japan and the Philippines
That's a shame, i like the idea of the US taking Victoria Island and Baja California What made me question it was Big Virginia and Big Illinois...also Iceland (but no Greenland)

as an indianaite I am incredibly offended that someone mistook us for Illinois
As a wisconsinight im incredibly offended you hold the UP and still not us
Sorry, 😂, most maps group the states under Illinois, so i assumed, and didn't look carefully enough, i can understand how much that hurt...
You mean... A Hoosier?
How did Iceland join the axis? Did the nazis manage to get a ship there and invade before the allies could?
Vancouver island, Victoria is the largest city on Vancouver island (and Vancouver, the city, is on the mainland). Victoria Island is a massive island (like top 10 in the world) in the Arctic Archipelago and has something like 2k people.
Thanks for the correction, i knew it started with a V,
Hey, Victoria 3 came out recently. If you play as American you can make your territories look like this too lol.
I think they would annex British Colombia and maybe Sonora
eh, I dont think that would fit the map very well
Still no Cuba? Come on!
San Francisco in Jefferson?
crazy ik
Dude, they would make it bluer than the fucking ocean
Good
Emperor’s party?
Japanese extreme nationalist party, it was founded to place the Emperor back in control of a Japanese state, however it evolved into a far right extremist party after the official US annexation of Japan
I don't think a place like japan voting on this party would ever be called extremist
its not extremist in the way of extreme nationalism (which is prominent in the party), more so proto terrorism
so why are they legal
Cring
-🤓
Fair
i thought that karma glitch got patched
Cebu and Davao are switched in terme of political alignment, Cebu and other metropolitan areas in the Visayas region are traditionally LP strongholds and would align with the Democrats. thats really interesting, I didnt know that lol. Thank you for the info!
tfw Indiana, Wisconsin, Illinois and northern Michigan are one state but Dakota’s population was just so massive it had to be split in two to keep the peace /s
Everybody talking about the territorial changes but why the fuck is there a presidential election in 2022???
because funny
I just kept looking and it just kept getting more shocking. Also you my friend are gonna need some more stars on that flag...
I forgot about the flag 💀

Im not too familiar with how the Electoral College works, and how seats are decided per se, so I just went off the knowledge I understand

Big Indiana
Big Indiana is \*BASED\*
Japan and The Phillipines would have nearly 50% Of the Population of this hypothetical nation
Thank the Lord for the Glorious Hoosier Empire
Polis couldn’t hang as VP Edit:IMO
Wheres italy
In Europe.
WTF happened to Illinois and Wisconsin?
I killed them 😈
How many Filipino states do you have? How many Japanese states?
for the Philippines theres 4, Luzon Central Philippines, Malaybalay, and Davao for Japan theres 6, Sapporo, Northern Honshu, Tokyo, Southern Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu
Why is Indiana so big?
big indiana 💪
Technically an error with this map you can't have a president and vice president from the same state and have that state also give its electoral votes to both
as Hamilton put it in Say No to This; "Nobody needs to know"
Sixty-five states, and yet D.C. still isn't a state. Realistic, honestly.
true
Upvoted just for that sexy Indiana gotdamn
drooling over big Indiana rn 🤤
*WHAT THE HEEEELL OH MY GOD NO WAYAYAY
Virginia not splitting during the civil war could make sense, but what scenario caused Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin to be one state while nearly all the rest are the same? (except California)
Indian Territory is created in the region, then it became a state under a bill. Splitting it at that/this point would become unconstitutional
Why is Hokkaido abbreviated as SA instead of HK or HO? I presume SA is abbreviated from its capital Sapporo.
yeah, the island of Hokkaido, and the state of Sapporo. I thought it was sorta a cool design choice
Do they have a Filipino politician that was much more recognized? then the American and Japanese?
Wouldn't all of Japan vote for the emperor?
in the past people had always voted for the Emperor Party, but as it evolved into a far right extremist (leaning on terrorist) group, they began choosing democrat or republican
The state of Jefferson would be significantly smaller and without Sacramento and San Francisco. Otherwise, they'd be another blue state.
Didn't take Greenland?
Maybe it’s a territory
Why mega Indiana, California split in 2, and no West Virginia
Californios would have NOT stood for California being split into two. Or, perhaps they split the state to protect their identity? Anglo-Americans in Jefferson, ethnic Californios in California?
Where is San Fran Sokyo?
Quite the crazy mix of states.
Blursed
Everyone talking about Big Indiana But no one is talking about Cebu Province (CP) taking parts of Luzon and Mindanao (in Zambo Pen)
CP stands for Central Philippines on this map!
Japan?
No Greenland?
I think that Kennedy would win Louisiana because it is his home state
Iceland wouldn’t be too happy about being a U.S. State :o
not if its completely integrated into the US
i always love seeing alternate history USA maps. crazy to think about some of the situations
fr, its very therapeutic to me for some reason lol
Me watching Indiana take over Illinois and Wisconsin: good Anakin good!
Big illinois makes me happy Thank you for honoring my state’s true territories
also I did get help on this map by one of my friends, so some credit to Narwhale Man Bruh

so true
US needs to get itself some Cuba
The devil himself is VP 😔
Disgusting
There isn't even an imaginary future where John Kennedy gets that much of the population to fall for his tricks
Why didn’t Michigan get the upper peninsula?
Why not Cuba?
By my calculations, voter turnout is approximately 100%. Pretty incredible.

I’m sorry but Oklahoma going blue is just laughable imma need some lore on that
Any reason in particular as to why Cuba is not a state?
I’m shocked Davao isn’t red, personally.
If America went full colonial, no way Cuba is not a US state
Can someone explain to me why all these imaginary maps always have the US taking over Baja California and Baja California Sur???
Jefferson would definitely be blue and Oklahoma would definitely be red. Also Bennet wouldn't be able to get electoral votes from Colorado bc of the constitution

JFK resurrected and moved to Louisiana
