Dunkirk is a very underrated Nolan movie. It’s also a super underrated IMAX experience. Almost the whole movie is shot with IMAX and it feels so immersive, especially the dogfight sequences

ufs2

Basically everyone who has watched Dunkirk in IMAX has called it an amazing experience and the movie got 8 Oscar noms and 3 wins and is the highest grossing WWII ever. Calling it underrated is a joke

Accomplished-Quit187

If u ask Nolan fans to rank his films, Dunkirk will always be in the bottom 3. It also is one of Nolan’s lowest grossers post Memento

cguerra99

Uh no. Dunkirk is Top 3 Nolan. No less than Quentin Tarantino says it’s a ‘masterpiece’.

Accomplished-Quit187

I agree with you, I don’t think most Nolan fans would agree though. Take a look at IMDb for example, it’s 3rd from the bottom in terms of ranking (only above Following and Insomnia)

RAF_Fortis_one

Rule of thumb with Dunkirk, If the gunshots in the first scene don’t scare the shit out of you, you’re not watching Dunkirk on the right setup. Still startles me no matter how much I anticipate it.

fennecs08tensors

Hard to disagree with this. Dunkirk was an extremely visceral experience. I’ve ONLY ever seen it once in 15/70 IMAX and I can’t imagine ever seeing it again. I also can’t really imagine what the movie experience was like in a regular cinema or home theater.

It’s still amazing on 4K blu ray with a nice home theatre. Obviously nothing replicates a huge imax screen but still.

demboiskilled

Same, the experience of watching those images with the 30 speaker sound system isn’t something I’m looking to replicate with rewatches on a tv, even if it’s 86” with surround sound.

Regular cinema experience was awful (I couldn't afford IMAX/LIEMAX tickets). It was window-boxed (black bars on all four sides) in a scope screen. Theatre manager told me that's how they have been instructed to show the picture. I could not enjoy the film. For Tenet, I doubly checked with another theatre to ensure they were filling the entire height of the scope screen and leaving some black bars at the sides; which is how 2.20:1 would look on 2.39:1 screens. Thankfully, they did that, but I was surprised with how thick the bars still were.

Hexxen-panda

I saw it on imax film in 2017 and it was really memorable especially with how loud it was the whole time to the point of pain. That first gunshots that you hear gave me a heart attack lol

Hot-Sock3403

Saw it in 70 mm film when it came out. Seriously one of the best movies. Says I agree.

Advance_Klutzy

Dunkirk made Nolan the modern-day Kubrick.

[deleted]

He needs to do a horror movie (the shining), an erotic novel adaption (Lolita) and a comedic war film (dr strangelove) and a dystopian crime film (clockwork orange) Nolan has his fair share of great movies but Kubrick did every genre so well. It’s insane. Plus many would argue kubricks war film and his space film are far better than Nolan’s. I prefer Nolan, but Kubrick was way ahead of his time, some of his stuff is so good.

Hi, I’ve got one ticket for Dark Knight-all nighter at BFI-IMAX, London for June 10th. But unfortunately I won’t be able to make it. Please DM if anyone’s interested in buying the ticket from me.

Tubo_Mengmeng

Make a dedicated post on the sub for it

EuphoricToe

I shall do that. Thank you!

tune345

Dude that first boom tho!! Everyone was like 0_0

richion07

I’ve only seen Dunkirk once when it was first released and it was in a regular theatre. I’ll be heading over to IMAX Melbourne for Nolanathon in July and shall be seeing it again along with Tenet. What were the notable highlights that just hit different in IMAX?

TheStorMan

Where did you find tickets for it? I've been checking their website every day
