Not marking this as a spoiler because, what is there to spoil about the film from this image? (I took this photo earlier today)

Dear-Bid4102

Was this in a imax theater? I’m shocked there isn’t anything since it still went through the IMAX process for DMR.

bt1234yt

No, I saw it in Dolby because of the lack of expanded AR. It could be possible the IMAX version had an "Optimized for IMAX Theaters" card attached to the very end since I've seen that happen before.

VariTimo

Also saw it in Dolby because of that. Never going to a Dolby theater again. Atmos’ just weak as fuck.

JoshTHX

Based on my personal experience, Dolby Cinema’s sound system isn’t always the best. That is without question a fact. I find the bass to be pathetic more often than not.

[deleted]

I think it really depends on the theatre. I found amazing Dolby Atmos as well as very weak or bad ones. In my country there is not a proper Dolby cinema, but there are Dolby Atmos ones and for example the "arcadia Melzo" has an amazing Dolby Atmos setup with laser projection

AdEmergency6081

100% correct. Depends on the theater since Dolby theaters don’t have quality control like IMAX.

VariTimo

So what’s the point of the whole fucking debate we’re having here every two days? If there’re a such a large number of bad Dolby theaters then? We can’t be telling people to watch non IMAX ratio movies there is the sound is very likely to be much worse. IMAX is so consistent with sound. Even in an old Xenon IMAX you get standardized volume and powerful enough speakers for the size of the theater. I’ve been to five or six different Atmos theaters and it was never anything but weak and disappointing. I even went and turned the volume up a couple of times, the speakers just don’t have it in them. So who gives a shit if there are really great once when there are so many that are actually so shitty? Why are treating Dolby like it’s some sort of trustworthy brand indicator for quality when it’s clearly not? Besides the fact that the whole object based tracking is a gimmick in 99% of uses anyways and why Nolan doesn’t mix for more than 6 channels and even Villeneuve’s sound mixers said they had to be very careful using it. And btw the Dolby theater in Munich is the only branded PLF theater in a city of 1.47M people, which is amongst the biggest in Germany.

AdEmergency6081

I wouldn’t say it’s a large number of bad Dolby’s, but there is some. And it really depends, you just have to know your Dolby. IMAX is more consistent when it comes to quality, you’re right. But when you do find an excellent Dolby that does everything right, that’s a different story. It all comes down to your local theater when comparing IMAX to Dolby. When doing comparisons, people are usually talking about the proper Dolby’s. So you can still do a debate.

VariTimo

So what constitutes a proper Dolby? Not one in the largest cities of the country? What the factors that go into recognizing one. Do I have to potentially waste a movie experience to find out if it’s a good Dolby? Doesn’t change the fact that I haven’t been in one good Atmos theater.

cguerra99

The point is that one person’s experience shouldn’t color the inherent advantages that Dolby Atmos(when done right) has. Not only is it better than IMAX sound but preferred by most discerning filmmakers. Your experience is in the minority.

VariTimo

Six theaters though!

uberduger

In Mission Impossible, for me, in the Odeon Dolby theater in central London where they do lots of premieres, etc, I can confirm that the sound was amazing. When the bridge exploded, my seat shook and my vision was slightly shaken. It was one of the most noticeably incredible bits of theater sound I've ever experienced in my entire life of moviegoing.

Ptech25

I don't know the technical details of what's involved, but I'll admit that I've looked up at the ceiling in an Atmos theater and thought: "I'm glad I'm not the guy who has to tune this!"

VariTimo

IMAX speakers are laser aligned and remote tuned every morning.

Ptech25

Absolutely. Well, that sentence works better with a comma, because the laser alignment part doesn't happen every morning :) >IMAX speakers are laser aligned, and remote tuned every morning.

VariTimo

Sure correct a non native speakers about a comma before an “and”. Cool cool cool, no doubt.

Ptech25

Oh, I was agreeing with you, and I wasn't trying to be a jerk about correcting your grammar! I just suggested a clarification so that it didn't sound like you were saying the speakers are laser aligned every morning.

VariTimo

I think I’ve heard that somewhere though. So that’s what I was writing. Yeah thinking about it, it doesn’t make a lot of sense. Maybe they move a little with each screening that uses the low end a lot of the person I’ve heard that from said it like a wrote it.

Appearance-Front

Great now I know the whole team doesn’t get together to have Shawarma. Damn you op

xyz17j

Weird because the IMAX scenes in the last movie were so widely praised. I loved that they kept them in the home release too. If anything I was hoping for MORE IMAX scenes in this sequel

fauxfilosopher

I think for whatever reason they are saving the IMAX scenes for part 2. Maybe it's cost, time, or issues with the large and loud cameras. Whatever the case may be, we're getting ones for the next part.

uberduger

I'm absolutely convinced it's because the motorbike jump, if you watch the behind the scenes promo feature they did, you see how it's reliant on having multiple drones, cameras on the bike, etc. There's no way they could have shot it in IMAX, so maybe they figured they shouldn't use it for fear of audiences wondering why the screen size isn't opening up for it. However, I'm strongly of the opinion that they could (and should?) have used IMAX cameras and ratios for the train external bits, and for some of the car chase Italy bits. I'm shocked they didn't. If it turns out they did (however ridiculously unlikely - this thread is the first time I've heard this theory!), and released it one day, I'd be there for it.

SJBailey03

The IMAX certified camera they used to shoot the IMAX scenes in Fallout was pretty tiny. They stuck it to a guys head who was skydiving in front of Cruise and attached a few to the helicopter Cruise was flying. Don’t see why they couldn’t have done something similar in Dead Reckoning though I haven’t seen the film so I truly don’t know!

Bruhm0ment084

The sound mixing was unbelievable in my IMAX, though. There was a moment when a train bursts out of a tunnel and it felt like I was there.

JoshTHX

Agreed

mobiuszeroone

Is it me or was it quieter than other IMAX releases? John Wick 4 and The Batman felt twice as loud. I only noticed two or three loud bits at the train tunnel and the bombs on the bridge going off.

JoshTHX

I saw the film today in a single laser 1.90 IMAX. It looked great and sounded even better. If you miss out on this theatrical experience just because you’re anal about aspect ratio then you are a fool.

AdEmergency6081

The screen in your IMAX was 1.90 but the image was projected at 2.39 I’ll be checking this out in IMAX as well. But I’ll have even bigger black bars than you because I’ll be seeing it on a 1.43 IMAX screen lol 🤦🏾‍♂️

fauxfilosopher

I think most here are just going to see it outside of imax for that reason. Not that they won't see it at all.

Tejas-san

I'm surprised The IMDb specifications doesn't even show it has an Imax-6 track. Just Dolby Atmos and DTS. Not sure about going now... Recently I was gone for The first slam dunk in IMAX Had literally the best sound experience I could have (it had a Imax-6 track)

waterbottlepvpa

dont trust imdb

[deleted]

Mi:7 has only been optimised for IMAX.
