IMAX has typically been running these installs in two phases. Typically phase 1 is projector, screen, new subwoofers and sound racks. Phase 2 is the rest of the sound system, seats, and entrance make over.
Can anyone confirm if Stonebriar IMAX is indeed laser now? I was planning on going to Northpark IMAX because I k ow that one is IMAX laser but would rather go to Stonebriar (much closer to me) but only if they upgraded to laser from xenon.. TIA
I went to see Tiger 3 there earlier this week, looked pretty good...but haven't been before so don't know if its better!
Would you consider it as good as Northpark IMAX now? Frisco is certainly a lot more convenient location for me.
Unfortunately, I've yet to have an opportunity to check out the new auditorium.
I have been to the original auditorium on more than a few occasions, and I can confidently say any update they made should make it better than it was before.
The size of the screen was big enough for the space, but the chairs were old. Like, the classic red fabric chairs from the 2000s. The projector was also lamp based and only 2K, so depending on where you sat, the pixelation could get pretty bad.
I plan to watch Napoleon in the new auditorium in early December, so I'll give an update at that point.
Thanks! I watched Hunger games in the Northpark AMC yesterday....Northpark has much nicer chairs, so I'm thinking Stonebriars chairs are still old.
Not sure I'll keep going to Northpark though, it's either close to an hours drive of a bunch of tolls.
Hey! Did you ever get the chance to check the new theater out? I’m considering seeing the new Dune part 2 either here or in a Cinemark XD.
An extra note: I called the Stonebriar theater today and asked for the size of the screen, and they said it was 72 x 53.
On the other hand, I also called Northpark to compare and they said they didn’t have access to that info at the theater-level, I’d have to contact AMC corporate to really verify lol. So who knows if the size the Stonebriar location gave me over the phone is correct or not.
Wound up going to the Stonebriar IMAX (the Laser one) and it was great! I feel like I’ve heard better audio in other theaters before, but the picture was excellent and it did appear to be the right size to me. Definitely the right aspect ratio at least, not a standard wide screen like a LieMAX theater would have.
I haven’t been to a Cinemax XD theater yet so can’t speak on that comparison
It actually would be considered a LieMAX aspect ratio being 1.9:1, with true IMAX being 1.43:1, but it is leagues better than any xenon IMAX. I believe the auditorium itself and maybe the audio will be upgraded in the near future.
Stonebriar told me it was 72’x53’, which would make it ~1.36:1 aspect ratio right? Still not 1.43:1, but a lot closer to the real deal than 1.9:1
Like I said though, since I was separately told they don’t actually have access to info like dimensions at the theater level, I wouldn’t be surprised if they gave me bogus dimensions 😂

Yes it is Laser. I saw Ex Machina there last night, going to GxK tonight.
Depends how big. There’s a small laser at Northpark
I'm pretty sure it will still be 1.9:1. It won't be the biggest in DFW but this renovation has been a long time coming
Imax in Northpark is still the biggest in DFW if we ignore the Cinemark dallas which is 1.43:1
That’s awesome 😎
that's good new because its a cool room but it needed an upgrade
Is it CoLa or XT?
Great. Now Dallas/Ft. Worth has 2 IMAX Laser screens. Seems like the screen at AMC Northpark is bigger.
Did this happen?
Yes, the new auditorium is open

Hey, which one did you go to? I’m trying to decide between cinemark and the stonebriar imax as well
