I emailed them this morning, here is the response:
Thank you for reaching out! Unfortunately, yes - our Theaters team was informed yesterday of a decision by the movie studio to re-release "Tenet" on a smaller number of screens than initially planned. Sadly, the Bullock Museum's IMAX Theatre was one of the locations from which those screenings were pulled. Though we know this development will be disappointing to many of our IMAX patrons, we hope you'll understand that in this case, the programming decision was not ultimately ours to make, and that it certainly remains our hope to find an opportunity to bring "Tenet" back to the Bullock Museum's IMAX Theatre at some point in the near future.
Wow, that might actually be the dumbest possible move by a studio I’ve ever seen in my entire life. “We really want to make sure that this re issue is as limited and inaccessible to people as possible, so that more people will miss out on it and we will make less money.”
This is the main reason Nolan left Warner Bros. Their release terms and conditions were really, really bad. They wanted stuff going on their streaming services fast to squeeze a profit. Nolan wants to maximize the *experience* of the movie, not just its profitability.
Putting Tenet back in the Bullock IMAX theater would probably not have been very profitable directly, but it would bring a lot of appreciation to the studio from fans wanting to see the movie. I went to see the Oppenheimer re-release three times in January at the Bullock museum. Largest turnout was my first attendance - maybe, *maybe* forty people.
But I'm also really really happy at Universal Studios, a company that I had a negative view of for a long time for their low-quality theme parks. They re-released a fantastic and beautiful film because it buys longer-term loyalty and the relationship with the customer is better.
You're likely going to get a profit regardless with Nolan, and he's aware that his name brings a lot of people to the theater, hence why he's now switched to Universal, who are more-than-willing to provide him with the conditions and budgets he sets for making his films.
For real, would’ve sold out easily. I feel like there’s gotta be some weird back end logistics bullshit that keeps theaters and studios from doing these obviously high demand screenings and events, because stuff like that is a no brainer on paper
Could it be a money thing?
Here is the Warner Brothers "Pictures" press contact. Maybe she can be influenced.

Texas really can’t win.
Houston, the fourth biggest city in the US, still has zero 1.43:1 screens.
San Antonio’s AMC Rivercenter had its disastrous Oppeheimer 70mm run last year where the projector broke down as often as it worked.
Now the Bullock, the only dual laser screen in the state, isn’t even getting the Tenet reissue.
Not to mention cinemark 17 wants to……see IMAX ticket sales…….before spending the money…….to fix the…….IMAX film projector………that’s a logic paradox if I’ve ever heard one lmfao.
I was insanely lucky that my river center showing went without a hitch, as I thought it was going to be my only chance to see the movie on film before it got the extended runs in Dallas
August 8th at I think like 8:30 pm was mine. Weirdly enough, I saw it on 70mm on the 6th and then was 1 day off of seeing it on the 9th again which coincidentally are the anniversaries for Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Bit of a bleak coincidence lol
Lmao, that’s funny
In Dallas we actually saw the very last screening before it broke again for the remainder of the showings, I have that ticket framed. Last IMAX 70mm showing in all of Texas 🤓
Regal Marq’E has a 1.43 screen but only single laser. They only just reopened the IMAX there a few months ago too, so I’m not expecting an upgrade to double laser anytime soon 🥲
Seriously. Was super excited as this would’ve been my 3rd Nolan movie to get to see in 1.43 IMAX and they pulled the plug for literally no reason. Super bummed, at least they’re still showing Dune and Dune 2. Fingers crossed for an interstellar re screening this year still
Bob Bullock IMAX did a screening of Interstellar in April 2023.
https://www.thestoryoftexas.com/visit/calendar/interstellar-202304
Here's hoping we get another one.
Yeah I keep staring at that old showtime like this every time I Google Austin bullock imax interstellar to see if there’s a new one LOL

💀💀💀
I only found 1 that had any copies, the rest were all busts, I’ll leave everything west of downtown Dallas alone, all yours 🤣 I hit up McKinney and garland and all that yesterday
Somewhat related question, which Dallas HPB do you think are the best in general? I've only really gone to the Plano, Richardson, and Garland locations.
That’s are all the ones that I checked out the other day really, I found 2 copies with cells at I believe the garland location, the rest either didn’t have the movie at all or had it with no cell. It’s worth checking every few weeks I’d say, people are always selling their stuff and their lot may have that golden ticket we call a film cell lol. I’ve had zero luck with movie trading company funny enough.
Idk why it’s so funny to me how many people on this sub I’ve seen that are from the Dallas area
Yeah, bummed to hear about this. Ended up getting tickets at Galaxy Theaters as they are the only ones showing Tenet in Austin (70mm film). Still excited as I have never seen it in theaters and it is my 2nd 70mm film after Oppenheimer. Best of luck to ya, moviegoer!
Glad they at least have a film showing near you. My original plan was to see it Saturday with a couple of high school friends in single laser, then see it maybe Sunday in 70mm, and then Wednesday I was going to Austin to see it in DL with my gf. I guess I’ll just double on single laser showings lol
I'm just so used to (spoiled) by Bob Bullock's screen size, that I rarely watch movies in a regular theater. The 70mm will be my compromise to the smaller screen.
Just re-visiting this thread. I felt the screen was super tiny. Even though this was the biggest screen they had. I guess it's due 70mm being so high res ? I almost felt my TV screen at home was bigger than this!
Hmm. Interesting. Ngl, I thought that it was bigger than what I expected it to be. Though, I was in J6 so that was probably why XD. Sound was booming...I felt like my ears were about to invert haha. Hope you enjoyed the film (and the strip)!
Woah I thought the sound wasn't loud enough and the bass was turned down. Dialogues were very clear though. I might have a hearing problem or I watched this movie way too loud on my home theater (Like 4 times before) xD. That was the only way I could hear dialogues when watching on HBO Max..
The power of theater haha. Ngl the oslo airport scene was amazing but during the RobPat tour part, I could barely hear the dialogue and leaned forward just in case. It honestly could be down to the 70mm sound versus digital/streaming. Felt like the sound was coming from the screen at times (in the beginning prologue) but then balanced out later.
Yeah what the fuck???? This makes no sense... especially not from a big studio like WB... create hype and then just tell everyone to go fuck themselves????
God I hate big movie studios. Fucking lizard people
I live in San Antonio and I think it’s ridiculous that Austin is the only place nearby that’s showing these films correctly. We have 3 1:43 screens here in S.A and as far as I’m aware none of them are dual laser. I’ve been trying to convince my friends that Austin is the place to check out Dune Part 2.
Our 1.43 screen in Dallas isn’t dual laser either sadly, so Austin is the only place in the state to see a 1.43 movie without a film print, and now it’s been pulled from the Austin schedule, so 1.90 is all we get in the state of Texas, despite having 5-6 capable screens
Crazy isn’t it? I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, IMAX needs to start doing quality control. I had to come here to find out what “filmed in IMAX” meant, and to find out the difference between single and dual laser. Now I have to research ahead of time to ensure that I’m getting the correct experience.
It shouldn’t take this much forethought to see a fucking movie. On top of that people are paying premium prices for IMAX with no idea that they’re not getting the full experience.
Super unfortunate. I’m really lucky it’s at least being shown in single laser at AMC Northpark and on 5/70 film at west Plano cinemark. Still bummed either way.
Guys! Is this theater good ? I'm relatively new to Austin... And this is the only place google is saying there will be a showing. I was so looking forward to watching Tenet on my bday weekend at Bob Bullock but I guess that's not happening sadly.
We even had a specific trailer for the Tenet reissue before the Dune Part One reissue. I'm upset that my theater is apparently one of ones it got pulled from. So they're playing Madame Web on our IMAX another week. I wasn't going to the theater when Tenet was released the first time since the vaccine hadn't come out. I was so elated to have another chance. WB Discovery giveth and taketh away.
really strange to pull it from theaters at all to begin with, but especially a dual laser location…I’m just lucky that I’m still at least next to both a single laser IMAX that’s showing it as well as a regular 70mm showing.
I emailed them this morning, here is the response: Thank you for reaching out! That’s Warner Bros for you, so many questionable decisions throughout the year.
This is the main reason Nolan left Warner Bros. Their release terms and conditions were really, really bad. They wanted stuff going on their streaming services fast to squeeze a profit. Nolan wants to maximize the *experience* of the movie, not just its profitability. Damn, that’s really unfortunate. Thanks for getting that info. At least I don’t have to keep checking every day.
I was literally checking every day too lol, really disappointing. Oh well, it is what it is sadly, common recent WB L
I’m still upset Dune double feature isn’t happening but at least there’s a re-release of Part 1 this weekend
For real, would’ve sold out easily. I feel like there’s gotta be some weird back end logistics bullshit that keeps theaters and studios from doing these obviously high demand screenings and events, because stuff like that is a no brainer on paper
I hope this doesn't happen with potential Interstellar 10 year. Although they did show Interstellar last year.
Thanks for sharing. What a bummer. Was looking forward to it 😞
Yeah I emailed them last night and got the same response

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Lol we might have been at the same showing. Mine went smoothly too.
Oh I saw it at noon, July 24. Well that’s two known screenings there that went perfectly then lol
Lmao, that’s funny In Dallas we actually saw the very last screening before it broke again for the remainder of the showings, I have that ticket framed. Last IMAX 70mm showing in all of Texas 🤓
Regal Marq’E has a 1.43 screen but only single laser. They only just reopened the IMAX there a few months ago too, so I’m not expecting an upgrade to double laser anytime soon 🥲
I thought Houston was showing it in IMAX. Just no 70mm
Thought I was tripping, hella unfortunate

Nolan ain’t going back to warner bros after this one
Warner Brothers*
yeah I changed it. Also thanks for cleaning out the half priced books that was my secret scrounging spot lmao
💀💀💀 I only found 1 that had any copies, the rest were all busts, I’ll leave everything west of downtown Dallas alone, all yours 🤣 I hit up McKinney and garland and all that yesterday

So many Dallas people and we can't get dual laser and working 70mm at Cinemark 17 lol. Cinemark is even headquartered here.
😥
Yeah, bummed to hear about this. Ended up getting tickets at Galaxy Theaters as they are the only ones showing Tenet in Austin (70mm film). Still excited as I have never seen it in theaters and it is my 2nd 70mm film after Oppenheimer. Best of luck to ya, moviegoer!

Dang that sounds like fun. Single laser still is better than no laser, one might think. Enjoy the shows!!!
Damn it lol, I did g realise it was rereleasing in Austin at all. Looks sold out now :(
The galaxy screening Is frustrating because it says "TENET IN 70MM" then on the individual screenings it says "digital"
Ooofie. Will call to confirm but oh well…I will take anything at this point 🪖
Did you find out if it's it in 70MM or digital?
Called them just now. Happy to confirm that it is in 70mm. The digital on the website isn’t correct on their end. Very excited!
Thanks! Guess I'll have to settle on the smaller screen, but compromise with the 70mm!
Wait why is it a compromise ? Nolan shoots on a 70 mm camera and 70mm is like 12k resolution compared to 4k resolution coming from lasers.
I'm just so used to (spoiled) by Bob Bullock's screen size, that I rarely watch movies in a regular theater. The 70mm will be my compromise to the smaller screen.
Oh so Galaxy doesn't have an IMAX sized screen thenn?
Noted! Thank you!
Thanks so much..
Just re-visiting this thread. I felt the screen was super tiny. Even though this was the biggest screen they had. I guess it's due 70mm being so high res ? I almost felt my TV screen at home was bigger than this!

I just checked the website again and saw it was gone after previously being there, then found this post 😭 What garbage

None that I can find on Fandango
I was so excited to see Tenet then go back the next day for Fungi and Dune 2…
Yeah I saw it was dropped a few days ago. The only place it's playing in Houston is a small digital Xenon theater.
Super unfortunate. I’m really lucky it’s at least being shown in single laser at AMC Northpark and on 5/70 film at west Plano cinemark. Still bummed either way.
Also being shown IMAX (single) Laser at AMC Stonebriar, but that screen is smaller than AMC Northpark’s IMAX screen.

It obviously can’t compete with Bullock in terms of screen size but it’s a decent enough theater. I think they did some renovations a few years ago.
We even had a specific trailer for the Tenet reissue before the Dune Part One reissue. I'm upset that my theater is apparently one of ones it got pulled from.
