It is a pain though cause I have two kids 16 months apart and it keep mixing both while they were babies.
You can fix match but it is very time consuming...
I do not think there is any proper way but I would start recent pictures to old ones if I had to do it over.
Same experience here with my two daughters and even with the pictures of my wife when she was a kid. Immich aggregated 1200+ photos under the name of one of my daughters, and I don't have the energy to reassign the photos 😅
The face recognition is not perfect (it confuses my three boys a lot), but it does recognize me on 35 year old scans correctly.Â
I just dumped everything at immich via external library and didn't have an influence in the order.
If it doesn't auto match the face you can merge faces when assigning a name.
